Serral's rampage through the 2018 WCS Circuit continued over the first two days of WCS Montreal, as the Finnish phenom arrived comfortably in the quarterfinals. Three matches away from completing an unprecedented Circuit grand slam, Serral will face a mixed field of familiar and unexpected challengers on the final day of the tournament.
ShoWTimE, HeRoMarinE, Lambo, uThermal, and Reynor have all reached the RO8 or higher this year, but they are joined by two quarterfinal newcomers in Scarlett and TIME. Scarlett failed to replicate her success in Korea (an IEM PyeongChang championship and RO8 run in Code S) on the WCS Circuit, and WCS Montreal marks her first time making it out of the RO16 on the 2018 Circuit. Meanwhile, TIME made a breakthrough for both himself and Chinese StarCraft II, becoming the first Chinese player to reach a WCS top 8 since MacSed in 2013.
WCS Montreal will conclude on Sunday, Sep 09 2:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)

The Reynor vs Neeb rivalry is amazing. How can you not love those two players. What a great final bracket for the last day!
|
ShaDoWn was channeling his inner Has and almost pulled off the upset, except he pulled another Has and kept doing the same strat 1 too many times.
|
Serral could easily win the event playing 10 out of 11 matches as ZvZ (including Challenger) and all 6 of his matches in the main tournament as ZvZ.
|
I think Neeb would've won that series had he had more time to prepare for WCS and adjust to jetlag.
|
Scarlett so unlucky to not make Blizzcon
|
Going with the upset of Scarlett knocking Serral out this time
|
Based on Day 2 form, Scarlett probably won't make Blizzcon this year, which is a shame.
|
Cheering for Lambo against Showtime since Showtime is already locked in for BlizzCon. 3 Germans at BlizzCon would be sick!
Don't think anybody will be able to stop Serral.

Her ZvZ is unreliable but very dangerous. Serral is the favorite, against everyone left, really, but Scarlett has the most chance to stop him imo. She could very well go 0-3 too, wont be surprised.

I don't think it will happen, but if Reynor can win it all and go to BlizzCon, it would be so wonderful.
Not only it would be a good story, but of all the players who can still make it to BlizzCon (Lambo, Nerchio, uThermal, Scarlett, TIME and Reynor), I believe he is the one with the better chance to win series against Korean.

2nd would leave him with 2030 points, and r8 right now is 2130 (uthermal), so only the win brings him to blizzcon

I love almost all the results so far, especially Scarlett getting a bit further this time and Heromarine not running into Serral. 3 Germans in top 8 is nice as well
First title for G?

You would not be surprised if Scarlett 0-3 Serral? ^
Serral is 18-0 in ZvZ matches in WCS this year. To be frank I dont think there is a SC2 player that is likely to 3-0 Serral.

Scarlett beats Serral, then loses to Showtime and then Showtime loses to Heromarine in the finals. You heard it here first.

We will probably have a zvz in final, Reynor vs Serral.
|
I am just hoping Scarlett can take out Serral this time.
|
I think Lambo will own today...
|
Hoping for Showtime Vs Time final. Not even going to be picky about which casters get to cast it 😀
|
Loved Neeb vs Reynor yesterday, very entertaining and promising series even if Neeb made that many costly mistakes.
Also very happy that TIME advanced. It would be a massive asset for sc2 if a Chinese player were to get a real breakthrough at top foreigner level.
|
As of now Serral's WCS run in 2018 equals exactly Neeb's 2017 run - 3 championships and 1 RO8. With his win over Scarlett he will already set the new record. Hype!

This tournament has been amazing so far.
|
Did anyone think Reynor was actually going to win the finals?
|
I thought Raynor was better. He threw the win in game 7. Sick games. Sick skills. I was blown away.

So you are telling me he was expected to beat Serral, the winner of the last 3 WCS, who also just won gsl vs the world, who has been the best zerg in the world this year, in a BO7 in the finals as a 16 year old, with 20k and blizzcon on the line, in his first final? Ok.

Idk I'd say, mechanically, he is #2 foreign zerg right now behind Serral. He definitely had a shot and has proven to be able to take games off of strong opponents. Sure, he wasn't expected to win against Serral, but ZvZ is one of Reynor's strongest matchups so it is hard to say. Both showed really high level play.

Nobody's gonna talk about TIME? It was such a breakthrough for Chinese SC2 that apparently Scboys are giving away 500 mice for free to celebrate.

Ok. To be fair, he did say on twitter that he should have. High expectations are the name of the game in StarCraft 2. And the pressure really did not seem to get to him much if at all.
Still, as a big fan of his, I'm super happy with his performance. I don't really think there's much question now that he's one of the top zergs in the world.
