The one day qualifier for Super Tournament 2 concluded on Tuesday, finalizing the sixteen player roster for GSL's last tournament of 2018. GuMiho, presently #8 in the WCS Korea rankings, took a major hit to his Global Finals chances by failing to make it through the qualifier. Meanwhile, Trap (#9), sOs (#10), soO (#11), and Solar (#13) made it through the qualifier, and all have a chance to clinch Korea's final ticket to the WCS Global Finals.
Super Tournament 2 proved to be a pivotal event for the 2017 Global Finals, with Rogue securing the #8 seed from Korea with a last-gasp championship run in the Super Tournament.
Super Tournament 2 will be held between September 27-30 with 7500 WCS points and 30,000,000 KRW (approximately $26,600 USD) in prize money on the line.
Zest was late due to a traffic jam and got disqualified. No idea about herO but he is playing in a chinese tournament the 25 & 26th (theoretically Solar and Impact too) so maybe that's an issue.
Gumiho still goes to Blizzcon if all the following happen : - Trap and sOs are out in ro16 - soO is out in ro16 or ro8 - Solar is out in ro16, ro8 or ro4

Gotta keep those fingers crossed...
That's not THE most ridiculous thing to happen hoenstly. But yeah, don't count on it.

Imagine the irony when ro16 goes Trap VS sOs and he is dead no matter what.

He had his faith in his hands and failed twice so yeah.
Innovation knocked out by Fantasy is note worthy and so too is Taejas participation(if actually the real Taeja) =D Cheering for Maru, Rogue and soO as usual. If Creator could recapture his glory of old that would be cool too =)

Yeah its the real Taeja; he said back on Cranks sc2 podcast he'd be coming back starting with the super tournament, although I don't know for how long he'll stay. Probably at least till the next GSL I hope.

All these players are cool, but the prospect of Gumiho not making it to Blizzcon somehow feels like a fucking crime.

yea I wanted Gumiho at Blizzcon, but I wanted him to make it there by being really good... I guess shit happens, maybe he can still play really well at Blizzcon if he does manage to make it
Remember? Last year, when Rogue's only chance to qualify blizzcon was winning Super tournament s2 and he did, and he took the blizzcon as well.
Whenever sOs won blizzcon, he was only ranked about 12th 14th among 16 players.
Even when ByuN won blizzcon, he was only on fire lately since last season of GSL. In previous season, he was someone who got eliminated in code A.
To win blizzcon, it's not really about who had many trophies in the year. It's only about who is on fire at November in blizzcon. Sc2 is always random especially in pro scene, I wouldn't be surprised much even if one of these 4 win Supertournament , and win blizzcon as well.
May be it's time for Rogue to rise again? I can't forget his final with Inno last year. But I really wish sOs to repeat his glory days on the territory where he feels most comfortable, it's just I don't think he plays his best starcraft from that last final with Inno one year ago in Code S. He was really close back then. It would be really fun if he destroy the expected Serral-Maru long waited rivarly and prove yet again as the most shocking player ever :D
hurricane just always seems to have gumi's number. he always eliminates gumi only to drop his next match, it's annoying. i'm crossing my fingers and toes for sOs and trap to drop their first matches of the super tourney
Wow, that's a GREAT bracket for sOs fans. The only problem being Maru in RO8, but sOs certainly SHOULD be able to take Keen down, and Trap's got a rough first round matchup against Stats. Anything could still happen, but I'd give reasonable odds to sOs somehow doing what sOs does and clinching the last-minute spot for Blizzcon.
If the following events happen, he qualifies for Blizzcon, even if he goes out in the Quarterfinals:
1. He defeats Keen 2. Stats defeats Trap 3. Solar does not advance to the final (i.e. he loses to probably Stats, Rogue, or Maru) 4. soO does not advance to the final (i.e. he loses to probably Dark, Classic, or TY)
If he goes on to defeat Maru (or Rogue) in the Quarterfinals (but loses in the Semifinals), then the following events must happen:
1. He defeats Keen and Maru (or Rogue) 2. Stats defeats Trap, Trap loses to Solar/Impact in the Quarterfinals 3. Solar does win the Tournament (i.e. he loses to any other player in the event) 4. soO does not advance to the final (i.e. he loses to probably Dark, Classic, or TY)
If he makes it to the final, but doesn't win, then these events must happen:
1. He wins vs. Keen, Maru/Rogue, and Stats/Trap/Solar/Impact (Since Trap and Solar are on his side of the bracket, sOs advancing to the finals immediately rules both of them out) 2. soO does not advance to the final (i.e. he loses to probably Dark, Classic, or TY)

It's even better because almost a third of the logos is from JAGW (5 out of 16)

It should have been six, I was sad to see Cure got eliminated.
i thought soo had no chance to qualify for blizzcon? he's had his worst year i think losing to evil rogue in blizzcon broke him???? well if he still has a shot then i hope he makes it. i dont see him ever beating maru, but maybe he can at least get second again
On September 20 2018 02:45 slavetomalal wrote: Guys, looking at this bracket I think soO is gonna reach the finals.....
You mean a bracket that lets soO play against Bunny and quite possibly TY? Given his ZvT I find that very unlikely, sad as it would be
He'll probably beat Bunny, but he's almost guaranteed to play Dark after that, and then I feel like TY or Classic could be there, but I'm feeling Classic, his best match up is PvT where as it's vice versa for TY.
Maru, Rogue, sOs and Trap all in the top half of the bracket...
And the winner of Maru vs Rogue plays the winner of sOs vs KeeN.
Pretty bummed out that the bracket was organized (drawn, seeded or however they decided) this way. Why does Maru and Rogue always have to meet, and often times play well before the finals!?! I honestly wouldn't be shocked at all to see sOs knock off either Maru or Rogue if he gets by KeeN (whom I personally never underestimate on a good day).

Gumiho is gonna be drinking 40's of haterade during the Super Tournament hoping he makes it to Blizzcon. hahaha
