So I recently purchased a Y560, it is a Lenovo laptop.
The specs: • Intel® Core™ i7-740QM Processor ( 1.73GHz 1333MHz 6MB ) • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 • 8 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz • 15.6" HD LED Glare 1366x768 • 500GB 7200 • DVD Recordable (Dual Layer) • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 1GB • Industry Standard Touchpad • 6 Cell Lithium-Ion
I also use a Kinzu mouse, not sure if that is part of the problem.
So back to the problem, I was playing some SC2 and during a game my mouse pointer turned into a line. This has happened before and I usually tab out and it goes back to normal. Last time it happened it did not go back to a normal mouse pointer, even on my desktop it looked the same... I restarted my machine and it was back to normal.
Has anyone else seen this, or does anyone know why this is happening? The machine is less than 2 months old and it is still under warranty so if I have to, I can send it back.

Same here its an issue with ATI cards it even will stay if u tab ... theres already a big post in the Blizz forums ... no solution yet
Sometimes it works to just move ur mouse very fast from the left to the right(ingame) ... or reboot if it doesnt work >.<

Ok wow that's good to hear. So happy it isn't my computer, thanks.

Its an ati problem. I get the same thing. I also get my cursor turning into a coiled spring during games. bugs the hell out of me and puts me off my build order
|
So is this a problem with ATI, my computer or ATI combined with BNET?

hmm... i have the same laptop as yours but a previous version that has the i7-720. I've never had this problem. Have you upgraded your ATI drivers? It took me a while to figure out how to upgrade the drivers on this laptop. Apparently when you uninstall the current drivers, the laptop then doesn't recognize that you have a video card inside your laptop. I had to go through and download the driver package and then rollback the drivers in the control panel and then update it by selecting the new drivers in its right folder. it took me about 6 hours and about 15 uninstalls and restarts. I think i'm using the 10.7 drivers and the 10.10 drivers came out about a week or so ago. I don't think i'm gonna upgrade the drivers again cus it was a pain to do so in the first place.

@ Mardi
I just right click my computer go to properties and device manager. From there find the proper drivers and right click them and select update, seemed to work for me. However, I did not know that 10.10 was out and I did not receive any update messages for it... Every other time I've scanned for changes in drivers it came back as "Drivers are up to date" so I'm not sure what's going on.

1/ download new driver 2/ delete old driver 3/ restart in safe mode 4/ run driversweeper 5/ restart windows 6/ install new driver 7/ restart computer
Its the same on all pc/laptops mate (pretty much)

Is driversweeper a program within windows? I've never heard of it, also do you think this is the reason for my mouse pointer problems?
|
It does the same on my Lenovo laptop occasionally too. There's a quick fix that I use: move your mouse side-to-side incredibly fast, from one side of the screen to the other. Voila!

What model do you have SoLaR?

It only works sometimes, and the only real solution is to restart your computer. I use a 5770 and having this problem, didnt have it with my 9800gt

I get this too, also a few times the pointer has disappeared compeletely and it´s pretty hard playing after that...

Slamming my mouse into the bottom right corner of the screen normally fixes that. im not sure if thats for everyone.
Pointer.

I have that same problem from time to time and I found a good solution is to enable pointer trails (and have them just slightly visible).

- Open your Start menu - Type Magnifier - Open Magnifier - Set to 100% - Minimise it and forget it exists
Problem seems to happen to all ATI cards. This is the easiest way to fix it without any annoying side effects.

This happens to me as well, but it's odd. It only ever happens on my primary monitor. If I move my mouse to my secondary it's completely normal. :|

Ohhh thought it was me. I had a game yesterday where it was the coil and BARELY visable. I shook it bigtime and it finally just went to a blur, but was luckly able to see it.

lol. i did this exact process about 3 or 4 times. right after i delete my old driver, run driversweeper and all... but my video card is no longer recognized. i go to dxdiag and ati hd5730m isn't there... so when i get to step 6 to go and install the new driver it doesnt actually install anything because the video card isn't being read/recognized. My laptop is fine now but yea it was a problem a few months ago. i'm just a bit paranoid of something bad happening lol.

I had this problem with my ATI and it was solved by updating the drivers.
