Could anyone tell me the pros and cons of getting HID vs Xenon lights?
HID just seems like it would be harder to install on your own, as its more than bulb switching, but just xenon lights seem to have a similar look to HID for like 1/3 of the price

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-intensity_discharge_lamp Do you mean HID vs Halogen? then sure go for it, They certainly are brighter per watt than halogen. Just aim them correctly ffs. Also don't go above 10k, 10k is REALLY pushing the rice factor already. EDIT: As for the ballasts, if I can fit them under my 300zx hood, then I am certain no other automobile ever constructed will have a problem fitting them. + Show Spoiler + Not much space to work with on these things:

I found out a set of HID's + kit is around $200CDN+, while the sylvannia utlra's are only $60CDN. Not to mention, if I don't feel comfortable installing the kits myself, another $200 for installation It'd be nice to know why HID's are so much more expensive and what real differences the two has EDIT: The xenon bulbs I am looking at are 4300K I believe

Many companies like sylvannia will have a "xenon" brand name that is actually just a halogen bulb and won't be significantly brighter at all. iirc, if it doesn't come with a ballast to convert from standard bulbs then it's probably not the upgrade you're looking for.

Those are the Xenon lights, HID Kit's are mostly all the same I'd say.

Those are halogen bulbs, they will not be significantly brighter than your current ones (when they were new) Keep in mind if your bulbs are very old they may have dimmed significantly.

I find the white light makes it easier to see. What do you think about those?

Reason why I am questions HID to these are the videos I have watched in comparison, they both discharge the same colour and strength of light. I find the white light makes it easier to see. What do you think about those? I think those bulbs will adequately light the road, but I would consider them to be within 5% brightness of a new oem replacement (and I don't know if that's +5% or -5%). They're not going to look like HIDs though by any stretch of the imagination, also they are 4.3k, that is the yellowest "white" bulbs come in, 6k or 8k would be noticeably whiter I suppose. EDIT: To be perfectly clear, a HID conversion kit (which will come with a small ballast) will provide significantly brighter lights (and probably draw less energy) than halogen bulbs.

My car has an H7 fit I believe Your 5 year old bulbs are not going to be anywhere near as bright as they were when they were new, just keep that in mind when making a comparison.

It's what most companies call Ice Something I believe. 8k gives off a blue-ish tint, but it still looks white. You really don't want to go above 8k. Don't go below 6k or you start getting a piss yellow color. If you have a black car, the look can be pulled off, so they aren't all that bad. My 325xi has the stock Halogens which burn at 4.3k. Luckily, my car is black so at night, the color doesn't look too bad. I actually like the Halogens. They make the car look more aggressive if the fogs are on. Anything other than black and I would have just bought the Xenon headlights though. Anything above 4.3k and your visibility starts going down. 4.3k is the best color for lighting up the road. It helps a lot with fog. 6k isn't bad under normal conditions, but in fog, you're going to have a tough time.
