Cannot play this media file error 0x00000051
Gom player stopped working a few days ago. I din't install a new version, just from one minute to another.
The gom forum says its a codec error, but I can't see how that could be as it was working before. I can't find the "codec finder" they say gom player has.
I use the LQ non paided service.
Had the same problem, although I just got the error once, after I simply hit play it worked like a charm.
reinstall it, its probably a bug in the gomtv streamer; happend to me 2.
my gomplayer always worked fine. yesterday i bought the premium ticket. now i have the same problem :-D
Had the same problem, but somehow fixed it self after some time
I had this problem before, i just reinstalled it and it worked just fine.
Press play again. If it doesn't work, reread this post.
Can't check now, but if it's the same problem I had it "fixed" itself when I launched it from the website via IE instead of Chrome.
Had the same error just kept reloading tell I got it to work. Took a few tries but finally got to see the stream.
Im pretty sure thats the error returned when the server isn't responding.. As it wont be when 100000 nerds load it at the same time. Reinstalling shouldn't change a damn thing.
Reinstalling did not help, tried it. IE din't work. I tried pressing play many times..did not work....I guess it might have been overloaded.
Same problem here, 0x00000051, GOM FAQ is so useless right now. I've reinstalled, downloaded countless codecs and restarted my computer to no avail. Will try running from IE though as both Firefox and Chrome yielded same results -_-
So annoyed if I miss IMNestea tonight.

This man is a genius.
It works.
The error occurs when the server isn't responding. Check your internet connection. I had this problem when my internet connection was suffering from heavy packet losses.
i have the same problem and i cant watch the gsl! fuck this gom player!
Im getting this problem too. Reinstalled several times. Then tried loading in IE it actually loaded up but then crashed and gave me the same error I was getting using FF
Try to uninstall GOMplayer, then reinstall it and shut down your antivirus program before starting the stream. This is the only way I managed to solve it. My antivirus blocked the streamer from being installed properly when I started the stream (or something like that).
gawww i wake up at 4 in the morning only to be unable to watch the stream
yeah I'm having this problem too, can't get it to work. Wierd cause its never happened before.
Having the problem as well
Same! I've re-installed 2x, restarted 2x, hit play 50x!
think stream is down. same problem here
sad day... having the same problem... and I wanted to see fruitdealer
Im having the same problem ):
yeah, same problem here
tried reinstalling, pressing play after the error message etc but nothing seems to work
i am sad
i suggest keep trying... i had the same problem, and literally hit the button about 200 times before it finally worked.. it was working earlier tonight but it would cut in and out in and out in and out over and over with that error message and it randomly shutting off, now it finally seems stable
working for me all of a sudden too.... wierd
I was losing hope with GomPlayer... I'd reinstalled it and gomstreamer several times, tried SQ live, SQ and HQ standard with no hope.. Tried VLC player, tried to find restreams... Then found this thread.
Hit the play button a half dozen more times after it told me it didnt work.. and it decided to work all of a sudden.
I've been unable to watch live matches for ~2 weeks because of this.. And all it took was to spam play a more times. :/ Rageface.
Ah well, I've watched the vods now and know how to deal with gomplayer. For those having the same problem, just keep hitting play
it just means you lost connection to the stream
Yeah Im guessing those that had this problem are using chrome. I tried launching it through firefox and it worked.
I got that error, just means the stream is fucked I believe. Kept hitting play and worked eventually.
On March 01 2011 19:21 treekiller wrote: Yeah Im guessing those that had this problem are using chrome. I tried launching it through firefox and it worked.
Nope, browser has nothing to do with it. I used both firefox then Chrome same problem. I even went direct through the gomplayer with the GSL link.
I believe its a server issue on their part or internet connection issue on our part... or even software issue (gom Player). Anyway, its working now.
I happen to believe the problem is linked to the website, and not (or very seldom) the player.
I have experienced the same error many times and mostly fixed it by hitting "play" till it works. This I believe is related to a short-term disconnect of the stream (ie. poor wifi, lag, network timeout or bottleneck).
But whenever GomTV experiences a major break down (ie. too many simultaneous users), I believe that after they reset their streaming equipment, they post a new stream URL (to avoid another crash from users hitting play). The users clicking the pre-loaded/cached web page, will now get the error. And since most browser cache the recent pages, the users must do a hard refresh (or switch browser) which explains the part about why it sometimes works in other browsers.
My conclusion is, there is no one step solution to fix this, but try with a little patience and methodical ruling out elements. It usually works for me. I hope this post may cast a little light on the problem and possible solutions to it.
Mine stopped having this problem the next day although its unfortunate that I missed fruitdealer/inca.
I just wonder only people without premium ticket get this kind of error or even the one who bought it?

Even premium ticket holders get it. Me and my friend gets it all the time and its quite annoying.
im getting it right now.. ruining my morning, gom player is trash
Happening to me for the second night in a row, has anyone found a way to fix this error? I can't connect to the stream at all.
I have Reinstalled gomplayer like 4 times still its lagging
close Gomtv Player then Uninstall "GOMTV Streamer" and click the link again..it will reinstall GOMTV Streamer and it will hopefully work again.
Right now i do this before every stream i watch >.<
That worked, thanks. I hope it's stable now, but I wish it worked just from the start.
gomtv makes me rage, still doesn't work even after doing what zewker did.
This error is so frustrating...
I get this error constantly for any free stream, hardly at all for any purchased stream.
found out that my router firewall(not the one from windows lol) that was blocking connections take this quote from SC2 Forums looks like it worked
Opening ports solved the problem. Make sure your firewall + router have ports 80,843,63800 open (I'm not sure which of these is/are most important
Sometimes when this happens I have to open up Task Manager and kill GomTVStreamerLive.exe or else I'll just keep getting the error.

That I had never thought of, will try it next time. Nothing else seems to work.
I understand why they are against restreaming and that's understandable - but it sure is frustrating when you keep getting that 51 error...!
Hitting repeatedly play help me, just for the record. But the gomplayer is really weird, my firewall goes crazy whenever I use it...
I`m getting the same error reinstalled several times and hit play like 200 times, still doesnt work =(((
On March 31 2011 19:59 Seion wrote: Sometimes when this happens I have to open up Task Manager and kill GomTVStreamerLive.exe or else I'll just keep getting the error. I do that as well and it almost always works. IMO that's the easiest way to solve this problem.

Nothing's working for me . Has there been any recent fix for this? I tried opening task manager and killing GomTVStreamerLive.exe, still getting error. Reinstalled a couple times, also tried Korean version, nothing worked. Could my router be blocking the connection and causing the error?
not working bros. ive hit play a lot and re-installed. the vehicle of esports is a failure.
Open up task manager and end the process of GomTV streamer, push play again and it will always start.

Uninstall and don't watch GSL; that's what I did.
If they have crappy software, they shouldn't expect people to watch their stuff.
I've given up with this problem. I would have loved to watch GSL but this:If they have crappy software, they shouldn't expect people to watch their stuff.

Right now i do this before every stream i watch >.<
I am getting this error regularly lately and this indeed works. Thank you very much.
This problem is somewhat tricky, becouse its not always your fault. I mean, sometimes the gom server cant send you the video stream 8(.
In my case, if reinstall did not work, even format C: did not work, but after some time, worked alone.
*Important: if you are watching a stream, and gom suddenly stops, dont press play! Press Stop, wait 5-10 seconds then press play. That way you lower the chances of the gom streamer to bug.

Does someone else have your info?
Reinstall the streamer (not the gom player). Easiest way to do this is to uninstall the streamer then run GSL and it will automatically download.
well i tryed all of your advices nothing seems to work here well sometimes after reinstalling it worked for 1-2 shows but then the " Cannot play this media file Error code: .... " appears again i now make a last try if not ill join qzy´s method of dealing with that

Worked like a charm, ta very much.

None of the solutions worked for me. Frustrating.

Nothing worked for me either, gomtv streamer isn't even listed in my processes.

Ahh might have to try the task manager thing. I got this error really annoying.
Most of the posts I've seen everywhere else (including on the Gom site) suggest that error 51 is caused by a non updated version of Gom Player. This may be one cause, but is not the only reason, as I made sure my player was up to date.
This problems seems to be an on and off thing, which could be at GOM's end instead of ours. For example, i had this problem for a couple of days before i could view the stream again with no remedy to it.
I now have the same problem , I tried to play it at least 1000 times but no use , what the fu*k should I go ?
well gomtv is a horrible piece of shit ladled with spyware
fuck you gretech

I had the same problem today, just unistalled reinstalled, worked for me

try not to fullscreen i found that helped also the end process thing works if not for ever a short time at least.
I had closed the gom player recently, and it still had lingering processes running. When I cleared them, using ctrl+alt+delete, it worked again
None of the solutions worked for me - Just as i bought the yearly ticket too..
Thank god there is a twitch.tv stream.
and another one fallen vitim to this bug. tried everything: reinstall of everything then reinstalling just the GOMstreamer, manually ending the process of the streamer, clicking play a bazzillion times...I am really frustrated, not a good way to start ur monday
When you connect to the gom player it will check your bandwidth and if it isn't enough for the stream then it will deny the connection so as to not waste resources on lagging connections. It only happens on the free stream as on the paid stream they will allow you to connect regardless of bandwidth since you are a paying customer. Note: if you generally have a good internet connection then it probably isn't an error on your end.
If you get this error when using a paid stream then there is something seriously wrong as it shouldn't be denying the connection.
Note: the 0x00000071 error means the player can't connect to the GOM servers.
Is there any way to get the player to use a different port or something? Something like port 80 or 8080?
Yeah i always had this issue and still have the issue its quite annoying that they cant make some alternate solutions like making an "official" twitch stream or another streaming service and just stream the low Quality stream there as well
I get this, restarting the video just doesn't work ever.
It's pretty sad that the biggest SC2 tournament uses such crap for their streams >.<

This worked for me. Also I would advise people to remember to double check if you allow gom player access through firewall when reinstalling.

Starting from IE, reinstalling everything, closing gom programs manually using task manager all result in the same error. Help!

Sadly, it's the only workaround that works for me too. I've not been able to watch the GSL for many months now, and killing the gomstreamer process, reinstalling or spamming the play button won't change anything...
I want a twitchtv restream, gom's software is terrible

This worked for me excellent after like an hour of not being able to watch. one shot and it was solved. thanks.

I bought a new computer and it started working JUST fine T_T_T ... Then I recently switched back and it started to work on my old PC again. I really dislike this software, can't believe they stream with such garbage lol. People who say they tried everything; do you have new and updated PC?

Yeah, that's how the problems started. It works on my old mac, but not on my new PC.
I did a full uninstall through the control panel (there are 2 GOMTV programs to uninstall, the player and streamer) then downloaded and reinstalled it again and it worked great
if your gom players crushes, usually gom live streamer (live stream add-on of gom player) is still on. you can end it from taskmaneger processes.
do this and try again.
I just uninstall my antivirus and it start working. So i guess its firewall problem or smth like that.
