my specs are: 8GB DDR2 ram (mobo wont fit DDR3) Intel duo E8500 @3.8GHz ATI Radeon 4870x2 49Mbit down/49Mbit up. Would it take better ram or a CPU upgrade to stream at near 720p-1080p?

You could get a Q9xxx or upgrade to the current generation (i5-2500k, P67 motherboard, DDR3 RAM). The latter option is much more expensive, but you'll need DDR3 RAM someday and the performance difference may warrant the switch. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/50?vs=288

Would it take better ram or a CPU upgrade to stream at near 720p-1080p? You're running a dual core processor. Meaning you would be streaming and playing using the same two cores. That is without a doubt your bottle neck. Get a Core 2 Quad and you should be fine. I think you can get like the 8800 for like 150ish. Errr, sorry. I meant an 8400. Not as familiar with older processor pricing >.<; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115207 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115057 It will be MUCH cheaper than getting the sandy bridge processors. Plus SB is completely overkill.

My download is around 26 and upload around 1,3. I somehow however never get any better than 20 fps no matter what settings in SC2 or FME. Anyone got some ideas? Edit: just now found the huge threads the mods posted. You can lock this thread.

I run SC2 at medium quality framerateglued at 60fps. 955 BE Quad Core @ 3.2 Ghz 8GB of 1600 DDR3 Windows 7 Home Premium Geforce 460 GTX 1GB A Trick I do streaming is match my screen resolution to the stream resolution, and screen capture. (basically reduce my screen down to 1280x720, as opposed to the native 1920x1200.) that reduced quite a bit of overhead and lag from the stream. My bandwidth is roughly 25MB Down / 3MB Up no problems, no hassles, no issues. took a lot of configuration in xSplit though.

I'm wanting the ability to stream 720p, 30fps easily. Here's my setup: CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Mobo: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX RAM: ADATA XPG Gaming Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM VidCard: PNY GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express I'm not there right now for sure, but I'm unsure where best to start upgrading. I'm pretty good on money, so any and all suggestions are welcome, as I may just completely buy a new system.

CPU, streaming is completly CPU dependant Overclock your CPU if you can, should get you some better results

EDIT: Also just heard back from Comcast... is 15 down / 3 up going to be pretty decent for streaming? From my understanding that means I should encode with bitrate around 2 to 2.5k.
