hi,
I apologize in advance for the lack of grammar in this post as my Internet does not work on my laptop and I am on my iTouch out of sheer frustration.
I am having the same issue (ie dns lookup failed). my laptop connects to any wireless network fine except to the one in my apartment. it works on all my roommates computers, my iTouch (clearly) and my blackberry wifi. I am connected to the Internet, it says an excellent connection but with limited connectivity. I flushed my dns and ran an Intel PROset scan which said the ping test failed. I haven't tried the 8.8.8.8. thing yet hough because I am running windows vista and am unsure how to find it.
can someone please help because this is very frustrating especially with midterms and papers coming up next week!

Hi farn, I recently had the "DNS lookup failed" problem with my laptop and this fixed it(please note that i use vista, if you use 7 you may have to navigate slightly different):
Go to network and sharing center, click on "manage network connections", go to properties on the wireless network connection go in the properties of internet protocol version 6(TCP/IPv6) and check the boxes "Obtain IPv6 address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically"
Hope this helps!

I have had this problem for a few weeks and I carefully worked through all possible reasons ,, i went on lots of trouble-shooting sites to research their answers , I HAVE SOLVED THIS PROBLEM FOR ME ANYWAY, :-) the answer is ,,,,,, (drum roll here..lol) make double sure there are no updates waiting to be installed on your machine, pending updates will cause this problem. IT was black and white for me, I was struggling to get on the internet at all . then 10 mins later after I updated the problem was totally gone, and i was back to my speedy internet as normal ,I know this sounds unlikely compared to all the technical answers above and elsewhere, but please try it and post back , after all it cant do any harm can it?

I've tried ipconfig/dnsflush and setting up IP 4 to "Obtain DNS server automatically". Still its not working anymore. Can anybody help?

- does your browser have a built in proxy setting?; check it and set no proxy - is the browser allowed through your firewall?
