I know there are other mechanical keyboard topics right now, but those are more of what keyboard should I get.
This topic I want to find out what particular switch everyone is using today.

maybe they have changed... people may have switched to other switches now etc.... that polls was from months ago... just like people may have switched races by now. who knows.. and the crappy thing about polls is that u cant revote. like i use to own a blue ,, now im rocking browns. Im curious to see what people are using now that they have gamed more on SC2 and may have changed their minds on waht switch they are using or prefer..
Also that poll was directed toward Chery MX switches, not offering the other types of mechanical switches. Topre, ,rubber dome, buckling etc... as a part of the poll

take your curiosity to blogs, or post this in the Mechanical keyboard rec thread.
|
oh i never knew u could make a poll with in a thread. weird also i sure lots of keyboard enthusiests and people who are wanting to purchase one, want to see what switch everyone is using now. Also that other thread is a mechanical keyboard brand thread, this is specifically a what "Switch" not a what "Keyboard" thread, there is a difference.

I use Cherry MX Blues.
As a side note Elitekeyboards just sent me an email saying they will be getting leopold KB with Cherry Reds if anyone is looking to buy one. It also looks like they have some 10 keyless KB in stock.
|
Topre Realforce 88UB all-45g
|
looks like we got a tie do far.. I thought for sure people would have more blacks or blues because of the mainstream mechanical keyaboards (CrapWidow and the Steelseries).... but looks like people have ventured off into the boutique brands. Right on thats what i like to see.
|
I have browns, but later I found out that my friend has blues, and after trying them out, I prefer them by far.
|
started on blacks went to blues, now i use browns. completely preference based but i like browns a lot more than blues once i got used to not having the cool clicky sound. PS razer blackwidow sucks please do not buy it.
|
White Alps for the win! Closest thing to buckling spring switches!
|
What switch type is this?
|
I have MX browns. Ducky DK9008
|
I really love the feel of the blues, although they can be quite noisy at times...
Tried MX Browns, but didnt really like them too much.
|
I use blacks right now, but i might change to clear or white sometime, to used to blacks nows D:

Lil off topic but do you know when they'll be getting them in exactly? D=

browns.
of course I haven't actually tried them before getting one (unfortunately can't find a demo anywhere), so I just read up and found how tactile/clicky/noisy each type of switch is, settled on browns as they're a nice middle ground for typing/gaming tasks. having a blast typing on them so far.
but yeah, if you get a chance, definitely try out as many switch types as you can before making the choice.
|
I use browns, but I would really like to try out red switches.
|
I'm using blues right now, but I'm looking into trying out a red or brown board, leaning towards browns though.
|
Using a red right now, came from blue. I have to say red is better.

I use a Das Keyboard Professional Silent which uses Cherry MX Browns (IMO the best switch out there). Blues too noisy and don't feel as nice (to me) for gaming (but just as good for typing). Blacks were nice enough but not as fun as the Blues and Browns to type on.
They were the only mechanical switches I was able to try out personally and from what I read those were the ones to try out anyways.
|
Well im kind of glad we did this new switch poll... the results are pretty different this time around so far.
Looks like alot of people who had there black widows and steelseries, have all jumped ship to the Browns....
Seems like Brown is the new blue/black

do mechanical keyboards make you a better gamer? that's something i want to know =P

Noppoo Choc Mini with Red Filco Tenkeyless with Brown
I prefer the red switches and key caps on the Noppoo (POM) but the Filco is heavier and has a more traditional layout. Then again, the layout on the Noppoo is better for sc2 than the filco imo since you can easily rebind 0987 to F1 f2 f3 f4. I know a lot of people have screens there but F5 and F6 plus the key to the left of 1 is good enough for me when it comes to screen hotkeys.
I also prefer typing on reds. Chances are that I will try to get my hands on a Filco tenkeyless with reds at some point down the the road. Will most likely have to sell my future first born though. Some things are worth sacrificing for.

Filco Tenkeyless w/ Blue Noppoo Choc Mini w/ Brown Ducky 9008 w/ Brown
The Ducky is by far my favorite, slightly loud, superb feel when typing etc. Doesn't really improve my gaming though, its all about the typing experience.
|
Filco Tenkeyless with brown. My most favorite guilty purchase I've ever done when drunk.
|
Filco blue had Steelseries 6gv2, and no it does not make you a better gamer. I just liked how it sounded and now I can never go back :D
|
I initially got a Filco with Cherry MX Brown switches, but ordered a Das Keyboard with Blues a couple of days after. Now I have the Das in my room (my main gaming PC), and the Filco on the computer in the den. Both are excellent keyboards.
|
Scissor switch and rubber dome should not be on there. Those are not typically named mechanical keys because they are so common (laptops & cheap keyboards). That said no one seems to be answering as if those were good options.
I personally use browns and I don't like them. I have to bottom out on my keys, and even then (attempting to bottom out) I miss keypresses sometimes. I was thinking the tactile bump of browns would be more pronounced or that it would feel different, maybe more like a silent blue, but that's not the case.
I think I would like a black or blue switch, or maybe a combo of black and blue as strange as that sounds. Certainly not very happy with browns, but I didn't pay much at all for this expensive keyboard, so I'm overall content.
|
I use blacks. Took a little while to get used to not bottoming out all the time but I really like them now. A couple of people have commented that my keyboard feels strange, I guess blacks don't feel like the keys from a regular keyboard at all.

No, but it's all about the feeling, and it helps again RSI and such aswell.

I just got a Filco Ninja Majestouch 2 Tenkeyless w/ Cherry MX Browns.
Aside from the awesome front-printed keys, the keyboard itself is absolutely awesome. It makes me enjoy typing, and the only thing that annoys me about it is the fact that the keycaps I use more often have been pretty quick to get rather shiny. Still, the keys feel like an absolute wonder, and literally it makes me want to just ramble on when I type because it feels so good.
It hasn't made my SC2 any better, in fact I had to take a few days to get completely used to it, but I still don't regret the purchase because it really does feel simply amazing.

On the better gamer thing, no but it feels so good to do anything on a mech keyboard
|
yes true, mech keyboards are the shizzle, im curious of topre switch though.

I use a BlackWidow, which I think has Blue switches

I would say blue is awesome, the sound tone is just perfect for me, other sounds a bit too "deep". but touch-wise, I am not sure. Personally I feel the sound is more important than the actual typing feel :p

I would say yes, everything becomes more precise since I know I have pressed the key with just the sound. I am now more accurate in my typing too.

I have a 6gv2 which uses blacks and I love them. I won't go back to any other. Typing isn't a real big concern, if I wanted to type I'd go get a cheapo keyboard. I didn't buy a mechanical keyboard to type papers with, I bought it to play SC2 and other computer games.
That aside, I'm fine with typing with the blacks. Took a little to get used to, but I can type faster with this keyboard and my accuracy hasn't suffered too much.

MX blues all the way baby. :D
|
well compaired to the last poll down almost 6 months ago. Looks like more people have moved on to the brown switch. I went from blue to brown as well... Blues were just obnoxious and not being able to double click kinda sucked.

Cherry MX yellow is a false statement. They are imitation of Cherry MX blacks colored yellow made by a Chinese manufacturer (not sure if Rapoo makes the keys also, or just the keyboard)

HHKB Topre checking in. Was using Reds before, both are good =) I prefer the tactile rubber dome of the Topres however.
|
topres are not tactile, they are linear.

bump
edit: Just wanted to see if the results would change for this thread. I am planning to purchase a keyboard with browns. Are a lot of people still using membrane keyboards or have people actually tried mechanicals.

Are a lot of people still using membrane keyboards or have people actually tried mechanicals. They're pretty consistent. Although I would say there's more people who use brown switches than blues. Honestly, just go with what you feel like would be best for you. If you don't like it, return it and get another KB with a different cherry switch. I was planning on getting a Ducky KB with brown switches, but took a risk and got a CM Storm with blues. I was worried the blues would be annoying for my family, that this "double-tapping" issue would pose a problem in SC2, and that people say blues are for FPS/MMOs. I haven't had a problem with any of the concerns I've mentioned now that I have the blues. Though I am not sure how my roommate will like the clicky sound once I get to college, but I'll order a KB with brown switches if it comes to that.
As for your second question, I would most definitely say that a lot of people still use membrane keyboards. We're posting in a SC2 forum within a tech forum within a mechanical keyboard topic. So we just pretty much keep going down the chain in terms of being the minority, as in terms of being a SC2 gamer, a tech geek/lover, then a mechanical keyboard enthusiast. Though there is nothing wrong with membrane keyboards, I played perfectly fine with them. I just love mechanical keyboards because they feel so much better to type on.

No way topre got so many users! I prefer browns (filco 10keyless), having used blue (das), bs (model m), and topre (hhkb). Blues too flimsy, BS too heavy, Topre too soft (also hhkb layout is terrible for SC). The other keyboards are for code and prose, where I prefer the Model M.

exactly this, i still can play on a membrane, but the feeling of a mechanical keyboard is so much more enjoyable
