6GV2. A million times better, and that's without even being used to it yet. Although the position of the " \ " key is kind of annoying. I don't think I'll ever use a rubber dome again. I hadn't even realized how much I missed a real keyboard for gaming.
And it has the advantage of being a viable home defense weapon too. This thing is solid. i hoped you watched the video where steelseries ran over their 6GV2 before plugging it back in and it worked
Nope, didn't see it, but when the cardboard box it ships in weighs more than the cracker jack shit I was using before, I consider it a good sign for durability.

I've been loving my Lycosa, but I've been mulling over jumping to a Das Ultimate. Does anyone happen to know if a mechanical keyboard exists with flat keys like the Lycosa, or does the aspect of flat keys not really work with mechanical switches?
I don't really have a problem with regular-style keys, but the highlight of picking up the Lycosa when it first came out was the flat laptop-style keys. I find they're more enjoyable to type on and makes it a little faster.

I had all of the "hardware" issues that were theoretically limited to certain recalled lots. Funny how those issues only happened with their software installed... default drivers and the "defective" hardware worked perfectly.
The most recent issue, however, was the fact that the underside of my spacebar disintegrated, and couldn't hold onto the spring anymore, meaning it just kind of hung there flaccid and unusable.
And by all the issues, I mean all of the passthroughs stopped working in two weeks, the software would freak out and start loading windows media every 5 seconds, even though itunes was default, forcing me to hard reset or kill the process. Yes, the passthroughs and shoddy quality actually were hardware defects, but the WMP thing was supposed to be as well.
There was also the random losing of a key or deciding that I was holding down a key I wasn't. Those hardware defects were also polite enough to stop happening if the Razer software wasn't enabled.
In other words, it's a piece of shit, and they couldn't even figure out what the problem was, as evidenced by recalling multiple entire lots for a nonexistent hardware defect.
They did eventually fix the software, after I yelled at their tech support a bunch of times and convinced them that it really wasn't a hardware problem. But that wasn't all that long before the spacebar decided it was optional and went on strike.
I'm still willing to give Razer props for my mousepad being good quality, though, I guess.

I'm really sorry to hear that.
All of my Razer products have been pretty solid (I only use two of the three now...no use for Diamondback mouse when Microsoft came back with the IE 3.0), and I happened to get a Lycosa around the first week it came out, and it's been rock solid this entire time.
There was a time when the backlight would flicker and the keyboard would become unresponsive for like two seconds, but it seemed to go away when I moved it to a new port.

One of the amusing vagaries of peripherals and PCs in general that people tend to forget. Installing a new USB device can and will count as "changing something" as far as software is concerned, courtesy of drivers and whatnot. Random interactions can happen that are good as well as bad. Based purely on anecdotal evidence, I'd say you've been in the fortunate minority to have had no issues with it.
The build quality issue probably wouldn't be as big of a deal for a lot of people, but I spend a LOT of time on my PC, with probably a lot more typing than most people who buy gaming peripherals. The Lycosa just wasn't up to heavy all around use.
If it helps, I bear no specific ill will towards people with better luck than me.

afaik there is no flat keys. Mechanicals only come with fairly tall keys.
If you want something with flat keys maybe try out a scissor switch board.

I always knew of some of the issues with the Lycosa from varying threads on sites over the years, but never paid attention much to their prevalence. I count myself lucky if it really was more prominent.

I've gone through a ton of peripherals (lots of headphones and mice particularly), but I run my hard drives into the ground as well. Running a computer essentially 24/7 will do that to anything. I use my stuff way too much.
Which reminds me, I just replaced my Raptor not too long ago, and still have a 500GB WD drive that I can still RMA if I want.

And, I just bit the bullet and ordered a Das Ultimate. Will most likely post a review after it arrives.

I just went with the 6GV2. Of course, Fry's only had 2 mech keyboards, and my only options that weren't in storage were a wireless, or one that has bad response on all the gaming keys.
Out of the two options, I took the SS just to not have a left side windows key to piss me off.

i'm waiting for my ducky dk1087 with blues O.O fucking fedex never took soooo long!

just got my leopold fullsize mech keyboard with red switches and played some starcraft 2 and it is amaaaaaaaaazing

Das Professional S Keyboards are a bitch to clean (if you're a clean freak). They easily get smudged and dusty. Other than that the blue switches are a dream to play on. Not a lot of pressure is actually needed to get it to respond.

Hey guys-
I have a razer blackwidow ultimate right now, and love it. It's my first mechanical keyboard, and the change from regular membrane keyboards feels absolutely fantastic. However, I've been reading so many people saying that the quality of filco's and das's are so much better, do you guys think it's worth it to sell this one to a friend and buy a filco or das? I'd miss the backlighting but probably could live without it.
Thanks.

If your BW is working fine then keep it. Filco etc are better quality but if the BW isn't bothering you then you have nothing to worry about.
Don't change your keyboard because people on the internet say there are better ones
