I have options to 'fit to screen' as well as 'ignore aspect ratio' when I do that, so I'll get tweaking things at my end and see if those work, and if not return here. Cheers for the responses thus far.

It seems most likely that you are just trying to encode at 1280x1024 or some multiplier down from there (OBS will do that by default..) or messing something up either capturing black bars that are already there, or adding them in with aspect ratio confusion from running 2 different aspect ratios at the same time, etc

Nobody is going to freak out if you play copyrighted music on stream, as far as i know, unless you have thousands of viewers like day9 or something

I've totally wiped my settings anyway, which I figured from before I found this thread and will re-set it up given that I have found this thread in the interim.

I am trying to stream Bioshock Infinite on 1999 mode, and Battlefield 3. Right now, my fps in game is too low even on low settings, and my fps on stream is not good either, and choppy. I am wondering if anyone would be willing to work with my a little bit to try to get my stream to optimal using OBS. Here is what I am working with: Processor AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor, 3400 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) 8MB Ram Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti Fermi If you need anymore information let me know. Currently I have my settings set at a quality of 8, 1300/1300, and 50 fps. Just kinda put things wherever. Any help is appreciated.

BF3 is an example of a game that will load many cores pretty heavily, so there's much less room for encoding, and encoding a first person camera is more difficult than something like sc2, you can't really have solid 1600x900 50fps on a phenom II x4 regardless of what you do or what game you play, you would be missing frames all the time etc. You can OC if you want to gain like 400mhz or something, i dont think you can push phenom II very far and it won't redefine performance, only help a little - probably not even enough to be noticeable in a blind test. I mean if you can overclock 3.4ghz to 4ghz (and as far as i know, that's at least a pretty big "If"..) then you gained 600mhz. Compared to a 3570k - where a higher end overclock is 3.4 to 4.8ghz (a much bigger gain) and 4.4, 4.5ghz is really easy.

Game Capture Pros: -Better overall performance than Screen Capture -Can capture games in Fullscreen mode -"Privacy" when minimizing (viewers will ONLY see the specified game unless you use a scene switcher plugin or manually switch scenes-- they will not see your desktop if you minimize) Cons: -Can't stream your desktop without switching scenes (sucks if you randomly want to show your viewers a YouTube video or something) -Probably not compatible with EVERY game, but I personally haven't had any problems -I don't think Game Capture picks up anything from the Steam Overlay (shift+tab). I was trolling some guy as he tried to scam me in a TF2 trade and my viewers had no clue what was happening haha Screen Capture Pros: -Hard to explain, but Screen Capture is more "flexible" than Game Capture. You will be able to capture and stream anything on your screen as long as it's not Fullscreen, so you can layer your windows to stream yourself playing Minesweeper with Pandora open in one corner and your chat in the other corner and your viewers will see everything. Cons: -Can only capture Windowed/Borderless games (no Fullscreen) -Not the best performance (apparently it's a lot better in Windows 8?) -Your viewers will see EVERYTHING on your monitor, which could lead to some embarrassing moments
