Just like the title says, I recently updated my OS to windows 8 and now starcraft won't boot up and there's a lot of static coming out of my speakers. It gives me an "Unexpected fatal error" with the error code "DE188729-16A0-4901-8DE7-C33004330348"
I tried: - Downloading the latest Nvidia driver that is w8 complient. - Downloading the latest driver for my sound card. (not sure if it's w8 comlient) - Running windows update - Deleting the starcraft files in documents and appdata - Reinstalling starcraft 2

Anyways try disabling your sound devices and starting up sc2, try to isolate what is causing the issue. I assume you get the launcher but when you hit play it crashes. + Show Spoiler +If it's your sound card you just have to look for solutions or wait for the company to update drivers for your sound card
What version of nvidia's drivers are you using
310.33 is the newest BETA and 306.97 is the latest WHQL
Try using the other if disabling your sound card doesn't work. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Ignore the negative criticism on Windows 8; it's mostly knee-jerk reactions. From an objective perspective, and at minimum, it's vastly better than 7.

Looks like I was missing the .NET 3.5 framework and the installer wasn't able to connect to the internet, so I had to install it manually.
I like w8 in general.. But the whole app thing isn't really useful, they could all be replaced by a web page.

i was one of those guys LOL, but i got a free win8 copy from my uni and thought hell.. why not.. and so far im loving it, not sure if its because of the feeling of "hey this is different" or im actually enjoying the interface better.. but nonetheless im enjoying win8
as for OP, i had the same problems, i rebooted and it worked perfectly, only thing i did was the windows updates.

Lesson learned: Don't replace things that are still working fine. There are a bazillion programs out there that can be installed on xp and 7 but won't work on 8. Just because 8 > 7 doesn't mean you need to get the biggest number.

What the fuck does this have to do with the thread? Why bump a thread just to add on a comment that belongs to a luddite. The issue turned out that the installer skipped out on installed a .NET library, something I install after any clean install of a o/s just because it always gets used, same with MS Visual C++ redist.
There are very few programs that don't work on 8 that work on 7, there are a lot more programs that wont work on 7 that work on xp your point is not only not helpful but just plain wrong.

Due to it being a new operating system, there will probably be a few problems that will be fixed over time through drivers and updates from microsoft. Not sure if you can run it in compatibility mode for windows 7 but try that as well (I know that fixed issues for me on Windows 7 when it was first released)

As gamers we are heavily interested in the technical aspects of a new OS. Namely, will it break our games. New OS's break games often. Also its not like Win8 has support for DX12 or anything like that.

Coming into a thread of a person with a problem who is requesting help only to basically go "lol well you're dumb for doing that, what were you thinking" is going to attract some negative attention, believe it or not.

Probably because there are a lot of people like you that post unnesesary and unhelpful comments, it's actually pretty annoying.
And look at me, here I am doing the same thing, look what you've done. (semi-joke)

User was warned for this post Am I warned because I used "fuck" to reply to his "fuck"? That is silly because that guy used it first but he's not warned?
Or, is it ok to use "fuck" first and the 2nd person that uses "fuck" to reply is wrong?

Did you not get a PM saying why you were warned? If I had to guess, I would say it's because you posted something completely unhelpful and irrelevant to this thread and then posted an angry reply when someone called you on it. The guy is looking for support on his problem not advice on which operating system to use.
