just a short question:
Does anyone use an IOS-Device with Twitch app and AppleTV/Airplay to watch streams on your tv? I'm considering to buy it for that purpose. Could not find much information, just some outdated threads about justin.tv.

Twitch.tv isn't an inbuilt channel in AppleTV, and the browser doesn't support flash, so it can't run the streams. EDIT: Though routing it through an iOS-Device..? No idea.

(HDMI cables connect your laptop to a tv, which then becomes their screen. Hence, having it on tv while running it on as laptop)

1. Get AppleTV to AirPlay mirror to tv 2. Get lightning/30-pin connector to HDMI adapter from Apple iPad 2/iPhone 4S and above support

No matter If you decide to purchase a Mac or not, I would get an Apple TV if I were you. You already have an iPhone and an iPad, assuming you got the twitch.tv App installed on either or both of them here's the set-up process to watch live StarCraft in your living room: 1. Insert HDMI cable into Apple TV. 2. Enter your WiFi password. 3. Press the AirPlay button in twitch. This will take you between 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on the length and complexity of your WiFi password since you're required to insert it with the IR remote (thankfully, only once – beyond that point you can use your iPhone or iPad as a remote). as soon as you have airplay running in the twitch app, you can lock the screen and put the iphone away. i have no lags or dropped frames watching at 1080p, with both receiving devices (apple tv and iphone) 2 rooms away from my wifi router.

So all i do is select a stream from the app and hit the apple tv button and its full screen and all the sound is controlled through the tv itself. The quality for me is always set to the highest, so it depends what the streamer is running it in but all the HD channels run in HD just fine for me. What's nice is you can carry on using your ipad once the tv is running the stream. From what i understand the apple tv takes over the streaming once it's on there. One thing to watch out for though, is some apps connect automatically to the apple tv so if you are watching a stream and open an app that does this, the app will take over the stream. There may be a setting in the ipad some where to stop this from happening but i've not looked yet. I had an issue with the wireless. Not sure why, it ran most things fine but i found some times streams would drop out. So i've since used an Ethernet through power solution to (sort of) hard wire it and it runs perfectly.

This is what it looks like when I watch a stream in the twitch.tv app on my iPhone: http://i42.tinypic.com/2q2frld.jpg Where am I supposed to find the airplay icon everyone's talking about? Or does it only work from an iPad?

(I did restart the app before posting my first post, but that didn't help, so that's why I was a bit confused).

It depends on your router, not all routers are created equal. I have a high-end router and it handles a similar setup in both N and AC modes.

Some things you can check: - The appleTV has to be on - It has to be on the same wifi network as your iPhone. - Your iPhone has to be currently using that wifi network (wifi on) If all this is the case, you should see a little icon that indicates your iphone output can be pushed to appleTV. It looks like this:
