Hi netizens! I have a chassi with lights on it which indicates if my fans are active or not. This morning I noticed that a fan was not spinning so I turned it off as I went to work (my computer usually spins around the clock otherwise).
I did some googling and found out about a program that shows you how your fans are doing. It is called "Speedfan". Acording to Speedfan my CPU while browsing is fluctuating around 100 degrees celcius. What also worries me is that it only shows 1 fan spinning but I know by looking through the net on the chassi that more fans are spinning then just 1.
I have a picture which I would like to show you of the readings and my specs for the comp I bought. Mind you this computer is around 5 months old and cost around 2000€ so it's not some wodden PC we're dealing with -.-
Alas I am not a competent man when it comes to computers so I do not know if there are any other errors which may have caused these numbers to appear on the Speedfan test.

Do you know what your CPU cooler is, and also what does Realtemp show for core temperatures?
|
My cooler is 1 st Intel Air Cooling - Socket 2011 - [HV]
And by RealTemp do you mean what is shown in the Bios?

Try HWMonitor instead of SpeedFan and look at what that reports. HWMonitor shows a tree style view about the various sources for sensor data. You will see your motherboard and your CPU separately. Both can show temperatures. Look at the temperatures the CPU itself reports instead of the motherboard. You are looking at the motherboard in your SpeedFan screenshot so you don't know for sure what's going on.
If you find out that your CPU is really at 100C, do not use the PC anymore until this problem is fixed. That particular temperature is close to the limit where the CPU will reduce speeds to protect itself so the real CPU cooling situation is probably a lot worse than those 100C.
You will have to open up the PC case and research what's going on with the fans and their connections. The motherboard manual will help to see what has to be plugged into what. Your case might also have some sort of fan controller thingy for the case fans, which could mean that nothing is plugged into the motherboard except the CPU cooler's fan. If it works like that in your PC, you won't see case fan speeds in programs and that's normal.
If you have an air cooler for the CPU and its fan is working, the temperatures are caused by the cooler not being mounted right. It probably came off for some reason and does not have good contact to the CPU anymore. See how the cooler's mounting system works and fix it.
If you have a cooler that uses water, the pump might be broken. It's also plugged into a fan header somewhere so you might get a speed reading of it through that particular sensor and can check if it's zero.
If you contact the shop that built your PC, they should service and fix it for free as everything's still new. You should definitely first check things out yourself as it might just be something stupid like a cable not being fully plugged in.

probably one of these
but i still doubt 100c while browsing and 0% cpu load

I can't see how that thing comes off by itself as it seems it's using screws instead of those push-pins on the cheaper CPUs.

Thanks for the feedback guys. What I did was to download as someone suggest "RealTemp" and that program shows completely different numbers. I also detached the side panel of my chassi and noticed that all fans were indeed spinning properly. The lights ontop of the chassi which indicates fans have now 2 lights missing (I did say 1 before but I think it was 2 all along) but even if the lights are out the fans are still spinning.
It turns out that the fan I thought to have ceased spinning was in fact never there in the first place as it turns out that "dark" circle was empty and only covered with a sort of dust filter *facepalm*.
I took a new picture so you can have a looksy: http://postimg.org/image/k6x56yqmt/

Those numbers are better, 4930k is 6-core though, dunno why there's 4 numbers (maybe that software only shows 4?)
If you open task manager performance tab, there should be 6 or 12 CPU usage graphs for individual cores (to confirm all cores enabled, but i can't imagine why any would be disabled)
some other software would probably show core temps for all 6

It shows 12 units and they are all active. Here's a picture of that as well http://postimg.org/image/sl7uw4mon/
Another person suggest that the CPU-cooler might've fallen off but the one I have is attached with 4 screws so I know it to be stabile.
I've checked with another program too called HWMonitor and it shows promesing results.
Here's a picture if anyone is curious. http://postimg.org/image/cik1o62ot/full/
With this I feel satisfied and will no longer worry about this topic. I wish to thank everyone who came with feedback during my troubled time.

That's good! I would have advised running Intelburntest on that CPU, but they don't normally come with a stock cooler like that (if you buy normally, they don't have a cooler and it's kind-of assumed that you will be using your own cooler and probably overclocking)
- so with the cooler you have, it might get too hot with such CPU tests. They're stress tests that pretty much max out power draw+heat, often much more so than normal programs. You could run for a few seconds though to see how things were.
For actual temperatures, like the ones you should be at all concerned about, you'd probably want to check while running whatever you use the cpu for, the highest cpu load programs
glad you got it worked out a bit

haha, i am ~genderqueer (hate that word, but it's confusing what else to use..)
"he", "him", "his" etc on tech sites gets a bit old after a while regardless, i use a female avatar on ocn
