I have a question regarding E-Books and their availability around the world across different platforms.
Most of the E-Books you buy online through sources such as Amazon and Google Play are not PDF's but licenses (if I understood correctly). This means that if you are using a license you are always dependent on an internet connection (to some degree) and more importantly, dependent on the availability of that particular service in the country or region you are visiting. For example, Google's book service is not available in China.
To be specific about my situation: Soon I am going to China and I stocked up on books from the Google Play store on my Galaxy Note 8.0 in the hope that I will have plenty to read for the extended period of time I will spend in China. However, it has come to my attention that it has happened that travelers to China (or some other country where this book service wasn't available) that they unwittingly deleted all the local content of their E-Books because of an update, and were unable to re-download their books because the service wasn't available at their location.
Which brings me to my specific question: Is there anyway to prevent this from happening using Google Books, or should I try to refund as many books as possible and move over to another service such as Amazon?
Thanks guys and gals and if you need more info I'll be happy to provide ofcourse.
P.S if this is the wrong section for this topic I'm terribly sorry.
