First before I will describe my problem please do not post things “buy new, or update”… So recently I was cleaning my room and I found the old box with ha Sapphire HD4870 x2 gpu. I was pretty happy because my current GPU was some kind of HD5450 64bit bus edition which s*cks ^^. When I checked specifications I was kind of amazed with how 4870x2 is powerful so before I will continue I will show you my current PC setup:
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10ghz (OCed to 3.4 by turbo mode)
RAM: 2x2GB HyperX Fury 1600mhz (KIT)
GPU: Sapphire HD4870x2 2GB GDDR5 2x256bit bus (2 cores on 1 PCB)
MOBO: ASUS P8H61-M rev 3.0
HDDs:
A-DATA SX900 128gb SSD 550/500mb/s R/W
WD 500gb SATAII 64MB cache 7200 rmp
WD 128gb SATA 64mb cache 7200 rmp – spare with Acronis image backup / inactive invisible without special Acronis bootable disk.
PSU: OCZ 750W >80% GOLD
MONITOR: 22” Acer w223v 1680x1050
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 with latest updates
Drivers have been checked and latest like a week ago with iObit driver booster 2.0 and clean Windows installation.
Before I did a swap I took my gpu to our company and let the inspection check the gpu 1st. 2 of our inspectors did not found a single mistake on it so I was happy.
So as I said I turn my pc off removed the old small gpu, put the new one and fit the extra power cables that 4870x2 needs. With the beauty of Acronis I managed to get the clean Windows Installation with the software I need, but without drivers so I run the scan and download them all. Latest DirectX + .NET framework. The last thing was a StarCraft 2 which went pretty smooth and I was hype to play on high/ultra details with this maybe old but powerful beast. So I run the custom game and I realized something is rly wrong here, because the game suggested me to go with full ultra but in the game I was manage to get like 25-30 fps. I was like “maybe my 2nd gpu isn’t working” So I checked CCC and turn the watermark scan for games to “on”. Big surprise was that my 2nd gpu is actually running o.O! Next thing I tried is that I put everything on LOW and the fps stayed the same even after restart of the game… After a few forum posts from early WoL, where the ppl suggested to turn Catalyst A.I off. That helped, but so far on ultra it was still only 30 fps and on low like 220 which is okay, but definitely under the max power of this gpu. My investigation went to fact that Catalyst crossfire is actually the main mainterance of the 2nd and dual gpu mode for my gpu and it is not working for StarCraft since 2010? Hello?
So what am I asking for?
If someone with some or the similar based card have a fix or some tweaks to do? I mean Im okayish to play on low but cmon that gpu wasn’t cheap back then ^^.
Best Regards and thx for answers
