Hey guys,
I'm looking to update my laptop. I'm using a Lenovo X220 with a 9 cell battery, 12.5 inch IPS screen, i7 and a SSD. It's now looking a bit worn (shouldn't have dropped it quite that many times, but, hey, it still works...) and the battery is down to only 3h of working time. I've got up to 1300 euros of grant money to buy a laptop but I haven't been able to decide what I want.
I'm really looking for a top-end machine for work that can go a full work-day cordless.
I've looked at a few machines so far:
Lenovo X240 seems to have more battery power, but not quite as much as my current one used to have. And I can't seem to find cheap offers which match my current specs (and I'm a bit worried that the keyboard is significantly worse). The processor is crucial for compiling large latex documents.
Lenovo X1 looks good but it's battery life looks terrible. I'm used to working cordless for a whole day at conferences, and I can't imagine being able to do that with an X1.
Any suggestions are welcome, smaller and lighter are much preferred.
My location is Estonia/Europe. No trips to the US coming up.
P.S. I have a gaming computer at home, the computer doesn't need to be able to handle games. Albeit I'd like to be able to stream videos without a hitch.

As I understand, laptop discussion is not welcome in that thread. The following exchange is from the first page:
If I'm mistaken, correct me. But I only see computer build related questions, no laptops.

oh wow, the elitists

You can't really build a laptop which is what 90% of the thread is dedicated to and there's also a very surprisingly low amount of really viable configs - anyone looking for a strong gaming laptop that's capable of playing many newer games or livestreaming etc (seems most people want this..) is gonna go straight to intel quad with an ~860m and other people like this OP, i'm not really sure what to say other than a quad core haswell (4'th gen core) CPU is probably best due to idle power and performance

Thanks Cyro, that's already a start.

If you're not interested in gaming on your laptop, just get a MacBook.
Literally the only reason not to get one is gaming, they're not even more expensive than Windows machines any more. Apple Germany gives 19% discounts via Apple on Campus, once every two years, so you'll actually get a machine that's not only better but also cheaper than an equivalent Windows laptop.

Asus Ux303 is ridiculously good value. I haven't tested it but I am incredibly satisfied with my Ux301.

Thanks for the tip! I thought it was just a gaming computer initially, but the specs look interesting. I'll check it out.

Hi! Thanks. I used a macbook pro before but had trouble with its quality (poor keyboard, got dents, poor battery life). I'll check out the new macbook air, though, it's getting better reviews.
