Hi guys
My company is experiencing some technical internet difficulties in China. Our company's main server is in Holland and sometimes, we cannot connect to the server in Holland which costs our company a lot of money and can lead to issues with clients. Currently, this is what we do: 1. Trying to re-log on to the server to see if it is a temporary issue. 2. Trying different internet connection, to see if the issue is specific to only the one connection. 3. Test some Dutch websites to check if the internet route to the Netherlands can be made. 4. Trying to use VPN to log on to the server.
Do any of you have any suggestions for what we can do in case both using different internet connections from different providers and using VPN fails?
Could the data from China somehow be encrypted or could there be another possible solution, I.E. trying different proxies or other vpn's ?

I'm not a professional tech guy but I do have experience using internet in China. I have found that data transfer to sites outside China is throttled. I used to download images from Google or MSN at work, but after a certain amount of data it would cut off. If I waited 10 minutes I would be able to download from that site again. To work around this I used to get images from a variety of different sites, so that when one became unavailable I would switch to another.
I find that using VPN (astril) can have the same problem. You are fine using the VPN for a while, and then suddenly it will become cut off. My VPN provider has tons of different servers so I just choose another one when it dies. I have half a dozen servers which I use in rotation.
I believe that some VPNs are more stable and secure than others, and that the solution to your problem probably lies in finding the right VPN provider for you.

Thanks Deathly
I might try an alternate VPN next time we experience this type of issue, btw. there is also a good program called freegate to circumvent the great firewall, it's free and as good as a paid for vpn in my opinion.

I lived in China for 5 years. Internet is terrible and the recent Google ban made it even worse. VPNs are the only viable option; I was personally using Astrill.
Another thing worth mentioning is that Chinese ISP are throttling connection to foreign ip/domains on purpose, and they now sell you a 50rmb/mo option to remove that throttling. imo it's extortion, but once you're paying for this option, connections to foreign ip/domains are vastly improved.

You rock Endy! I'm gonna try and buy this monthly subscription for our company and see if it helps on when our connection to the Netherlands is shut down completely.
