Hi TL,
i am looking into buying a new microphone. I used to have this ultra cheap Koenig CMP-Mic8 clip-on microphone, which costs under 5 Euro and does a really good job for its price.
The big downside of this mic is its durability. As you can expect from a below-5-euro piece it breaks pretty fast. So i pretty much stand before the decision to buy a new cheap mic everytime one breaks or buy a quality one which then (hopefully) lasts longer.
So i googled a bit and pretty much came across the same to recommendations on every site: Blue Yeti and Audio Technica AT2020.
Both are priced above 100 Euro. I am now wondering if there are other alternatives.
Furthermore i am very sceptical to buy a desk-microphone, because i have a pretty loud mechanical keyboard and the clip-on mic did a pretty good job cancelling the clicking sound of the keyboard out, so other people in the voice chat won't go insane, plus in my room the TV is quite often running in the background, so that needs to be cancelled out as well.
Can you recommend a good quality microphone in the 30 to 80 Euro price-range that is good in cancelling out surrounding noises?
Nice-to-have feature would be a hardware-mute-mic button and maybe a LED that shows if it is muted or not.
Thanks!

I am bumping this thread, because I want to find out some alternatives as well, since I am kinda in the same spot as you! :D

Depending on the room, a desktop mic from a distance might sound distant and pick up a lot of echos anyway, never mind noise from the keyboard. It's maybe as much or more about placement and pickup pattern (definitely want a more unidirectional pattern) than quality, though of course that matters and you want something suitable for voice... and pop filters don't hurt either.
My guess is the best choice for the budget would be a model from a relatively good low-budget brand (the kind not that popular with actual recording / studio types)—I presume you're not recording anything mission critical if you're upgrading from a throwaway clip-on—plus a desk or other stand to elevate it and get it closer to where it should be.
So e.g. something like this (which is super-cardioid, possibly even useful on the desk itself with the keyboard behind): http://www.thomann.de/de/superlux_e205u.htm
and a stand. In some circles Superlux has a reasonable reputation for mics and headphones, but I don't really know about this product or similar ones.

For now i bought a Blue Yeti, because it was on an Amazon Flash Sale for 99 Euros. I will give that thing a try.
If i do not like it and send it back and then give the ModMic a shot:

That sounds pretty promising to me.

Okay, my Yeti was delivererd today. It works pretty great. Because of my desk being so large, i have to keep it a bit further away that what is optimal, but the sound quality still is nice.
The only thing that really annoys me is the red LED. That thing is so friggin bright. It feels like the terminator is watching me play and it is super distracting. I thought about just putting a bit of tape over it, but maybe there is a better solution?

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I am looking for some microphone advice too.
A friend and I are going to start a podcast, so I need a decent mic.
I'm looking for something in the $60-$80 range, unless the quality improvement is so significant when moving into a $100-$120 range.
One place I went to recommended this mic, but I don't know that I trust the person that wrote the article, nor do I know a thing about Samson.
