The old HD was a Seagate 2TB, would I have to buy another Seagate or even another Seagate 2TB hard drive for it to work with whatever was plugging into the hard drive?
Could I buy a Western Digital hard drive and put it in instead?

When the new HDD has the same connectors as the old one, you should be fine though, but just as a notice, not every case can hold every size of HDD.

The one issue I can think of is that there seems to be a case of some sort around the HDD, which presumably lines up the hard drive inside the enclosure and keeps it in place. If you can't take that off to put it on the new HDD, then it might be hanging loose inside the enclosure which can lead to broken connectors. Just a thing to keep in mind, depending on the design of the external HD. Cheers.

I'm sure someone else will confirm this but yeah you should be good to go, any HDD should work in there I'd think. Just be careful if you go for bigger sizes as 3TB or more, because not every controller can handle them. If you go for a 2TB again it should be fine.
