Let me know if anyone else has ever ran into this. Only one was a free cable the monitor, the other one was from Cable Matters off amazon.

I saw BIOS settings could affect this somehow, so I will probably play around a little when I get home later tonight to see if I can get a fix.

I, like many others who are using (or used to use) Display Port experience the black screens on boot-up (I cannot even see my BIOS splash screen, although it is there) not to mention intermittent connection and disconnection of the DP signal while in Windows. There is not much rhyme or reason to it. Some times I can see the BIOS splash screen and sometimes I cannot. Sometimes the monitor will go black with "No signal detected" right during the BIOS splash screen. Sometimes the monitor will go black with the aforementioned no signal message at Windows login. Sometimes the issue will occur while sitting on the desktop, sometimes while surfing the web. Sometimes while actually gaming. A lot of the time when the display simply sits idle long enough to go into its low power mode after a period of inactivity I set for it in Windows. Fixing it does not actually fix it. Sometimes I can turn the monitor power off and get my screen. Typically I have to actually unplug the monitor and switch inputs back and forth to BenQ Classic Mode vs. G-Sync (DP) a couple of times to get the screen back. More than a few times I had to power the system down completely. Rebooting does not fix it. There is actually no workaround or fix that corrects this on a semi permanent basis. This is from this thread: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/815089/gtx-970-fundamental-display-port-issues-manuelg-you-really-need-to-read-this-/ He then later found a setting that fixes the problem for him in post #11 of that thread: I noticed in another forum that someone said EVGA stated to set your PCI-E slot configuration for Gen3, as opposed to AUTO. Mine was set to AUTO. I changed that, and also set the CPU lane configuration to x16 - x0. Since I have the one video card, this setting is appropriate for me. [...] It did not work immediately, though. When I first set it up and then plugged the DP cable back in, I did have to UNPLUG the monitor and then plug it back in again after switching engines in the monitor. After that, though, I have had no issues. I'd suggest you first try to find out if the cables are really broken or not. It seems after enough rebooting and cutting power and unplugging and replugging the monitor, then things should sometimes work and sometimes not. After you are convinced that the cables do actually work, and that you have the same problem that's other people are seeing, then try the BIOS setting mentioned. You should check if your motherboard manufacturer has an update for the board's UEFI/BIOS. You should also check the support website of the graphics card manufacturer and look for a possible update for the BIOS of the graphics card (it also has a BIOS, just like the motherboard). Updating the stuff is a bit dangerous so perhaps only do it if nothing else works.
