The PC bang across the street from the Korean Supermarket in Ktown. Is that place expensive?

Ehh the date isn't final yet, but it will most likely stay the same unless due to popular demand.
|
Looks like you can get there from Penn Station to Broadway via LIRR for $3.50 using a CityTicket
put me down as tentative plz
EDIT: had wrong price down before
|
Note: If your mouse cannot install because of driver issues that need a rebooting, use the default mouse they give you.
Thinking of going to Spring Garden for Korean BBQ this time, which is eleven blocks away.
The question is not eating the plates of beef. The question is can I hold it in for 2 hours on my way back.
I didn't make this thread because I was lazy, so I asked Amnesia to make it.
|
I would like to come. However I'm in my late 20s and I don't wanna scare off these young kids.
|
Ugh, i have been in NYC all year but I leave on May 14th after school ends. Hope this gets off the ground, have fun guys.
|
MANHATTAN PLX PLOX!
although, it'll be summer, so I can go to flushing I suppose. Tentative until we get closer to the date, but I should be coming.
|
I'm terrible at BW, but I would come to hang out if I'm in the city then
|
The reason why I specifically chose this date is because June 26th is after the Regents, and June 28th is the last day of classes.

omg i will show up i go to icon from time to time
but yea you should hold it off till after june 27 which is the release dates for sc2
|
You mean July 27th, and that is far too late to host any LAN that I would want. Besides, I would want a last hurrah of celebrating Brood War. Tentative dates usually mean I move around the date where micronesia is most available.
I wished HoN didn't go retail, so that I can prove a point that I'm a decent HoN player if not for my internet connection.
Also, that obligatory LAN FAQ was just copy pasted from the Calgary LAN.

I might come, but I'll have to check. I'll repost when I get a confirmation.

I've got a retail HoN acc Phelix if you wanna pwn some pubs there =o
|
put me down for tentative
|
We should totally play HoN if we have enough players. I need to prove to Amnesia that I am a good player and that the only reason why I suck is because of the 30% packet loss that is caused by the school's firewall, which means that I can't last hit effectively.
So, how much do you guys think I can eat? Amnesia and masami.sc cannot answer this question.

I'd be down for some hon.

Fuck yo parking.
Just take public transportation~!~!

Unless your going shopping, take the subway instead.
|
Even if you are changing the location to Manhattan, where would you want to go? We tried the Korean town in Manhattan one, didn't work at all because we had to keep finding PCs that won't crash.
That's what I wrote down as a con for hosting in Manhattan, parking is impossible to find there.

I seriously doubt their pcs will still crash by this point, it's been 5 months.

I'm considering coming, I have to get the courage to go meet people I don't know at all. I'm also late 20s so that makes me feel a little stranger about it all. But, I do have a hot asian wife. She probably won't want to go though.
So put me down for tentative, I guess. Also, I'm terrible at BW, but i'm down for a good time.

Am I in the minority about not particularly caring for korean food? To be honest I don't even have much of an attachment to korea side from the obvious awe for the gaming scene they have created... I think most foreign starcraft fans are korea lovers but I'd but interested to see how unilateral this is... the korean bbq is still fine for the lan but maybe for future ones we could diversify
|
if there is an SC2 tournament where i can stomp ur faces sure!
|
Hey guys, need to know if you guys are coming, so please do either the following:
"I am confirmed on going to the LAN on the 26th."
"I am tentative on going to the LAN on the 26th"
And if you can't go, simply state that you can't!!!
|
I am tentative on going to the LAN on the 26th. I like the Korean BBQ idea, and keeping the LAN in Flushing.
|
I MIGHT be able to go!!!~~~~~
I'll finally meet TLers in NYC and prove I ain't the only one from NYC who's from TL! Hahahahaha!!

Why does Phelix fail when he makes threads? I should be the organizer now. lool jk Phelix ^_^ Anyways I am glad to see a lot of tentatives. It's definitely better than nothing! Now let's hope those tentatives turned into confirmed!
To make a LAN a successful and enjoyable event we need a lot of people! I promise you guys won't be disappointed so come!!!

Pokebunny quit being lazy and don't make me smack you again with a trout. I'm from New Jersey, it takes forever to get to Manhattan by train. You live in NYC. Flushing shouldn't be too hard for you to get to!

Hey, what does this say about me? Well, there were a lot of people that were tentative in my LANs, but they never showed up.
Pokebunny, what's wrong with riding the train. I did it at your age for 3+ hours each day to get to school. Quit complaining and join your brothers in TL. Although I might host a LAN in NYC earlier to accommodate those who want it in Manhattan, but I don't know any good PC bangs there.
Micronesia, I know that Korean BBQ over and over again could be boring, but in the area that we are in, there really isn't much diversity due to being in Koreatown. There's Flushing, but that would be going into a Chinatown, and most of the surrounding neighborhoods are suburban areas.
Smix, you always seem to have good timing for leaving before the date that I host.

I've been riding to and from school on the train for two years, but flushing is still soooo far (literally from one end of a train line to the other, I live near times square )
I'll bug Pressure next week, I bet he'll come if it's in flushing.
Voted for money tournament because, well, I want your money.

Is there really nothing to eat there besides korean bbq? I find that rather hard to believe :p
|
Fanatacist is most definitely coming, right? We need more NYC LAN adventures.
Pokebunny, if you live near Times Square, take the N to Queensboro, then transfer to the 7 to Flushing. It's much faster that way. Besides, I'm coming all the way from Brooklyn, which takes me almost 2 hours to get to the LAN, but I'm still going.
I might host another one at the end of May in Manhattan, but I haven't decided where or what to do yet since I can't find a good PC Bang location. As I stated before, if you guys find a good one, I'll think about another event.
DC people should come here too. It only seems equitable that some of us are going down there for their LAN.
|
On May 08 2010 01:23 micronesia wrote: Is there really nothing to eat there besides korean bbq? I find that rather hard to believe :p Well, there's SOOOOO many things we can eat b/c it's NEW YORK CITY!!!! it doesn't even have to be Korean food, we can find all different kinds of food b/c it's NEW YORK!~ From burritos, gyros, halah, sushi, tonkatsu, udon, sul-long-tang, ja-jang-myun, soodoo bu, pizza, pastas, etc etc!
*Edit* But in Flushing, NY, I know this certain Korean restaurant that has some of the best SUL-LONG-TANG I ever had (ox-tail soup is the english translated name) along with really tasty JEON (korean pancake side dish) that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
*Edit Edit* Btw, how about samyeopsal? Those are tasty too?

On a serious note, anybody want a short meetup at the end of May back in Manhattan?

That certainly does not count.
@Phelix: I'm in probably, depends on if I have a baseball game at that time though.
|
Aiming for May 29th, since the 22nd I will most likely go to the DC LAN with Amnesia.

Pokebunny wtf are you talking about 'does not count' MY ASS
|
yo Jay I am not sure if I can drive to DC yet...still gotta get the car which I'm not sure I can get by May 22nd. Also I'm down for an end of May - that'd be nice.

Amnesia I'm not sure what you are talking about but are you buying a new car?

I might be around May 29th, depends on school stuff though

I am tentative.
I've always wanted to come to the past LAN meetings...this time I should really be able to come.
6/26 is basically the last day of school...yay!

Has there been a decision if its going to be in Manhattan or not. I would suggest to have in there, encourages jersey poeple to go there.
If so, i will definitely attend in Manhattan for Sc2 :|

Thanks for organizing something in the NJ/NYC area, I'm looking forward to the explosion SC2 will have!

Put me as tentative thanks!

Put me down as tentative! So fun to finally meet other players in the nyc area.!
|
|
Never been to one of these, nor have I ever played SC:BW, But depending on what goes on I might come. Put me down as tentative.
|
Any chance you could make it one week sooner? I'm doing a summer study program in Korea and will be leaving at the end of June (not sure when exactly yet), so I might not be able to go.
|
Sign me up for it! confirmed
|
im definetely confirmed as long as it stays on Northern. If it moves to manhatten i'm tentative
|
i'll put myself as confirmed. also, i just watched HDSc's Bay Area LAN video. do you think we'd have projectors to cast some tourney's/games at this place?
|
Eh you're gonna have to take me off the confirmed list for this. Turns out I have to leave for Korea the day before.
|
Yo Kibibit remember you owe me $45 from the last LAN kekekeke^^
Good times, cant wait for this one.
|
Well prepared for that. :D I actually have money set aside that I haven't allowed myself to touch.
|
i just had the craziest idea. why don't people in NYC make a team to play SC:BW / SC2? LOL
|
I am tentative. Can I take the 1 train instead of the 7?
|
The 1 train is nowhere near queens.
|
i wanna see the pictures from the last lan!

I'm like 86% sure I can go right now. My college buddy who plays sc1/2 lives in NJ now so he could possibly make it also.
|
I guess I will have to organize this, was my idea anyway, but was too lazy to make the OP.
Event is still on!
|
Why does it have to be so far :-( I'm tentative
|
I guess at least someone will be able to confirm that murderotica is really fanatacist
|
Actually, I think murderotica is not coming. The lists will be edited as soon as I get a hold of Amnesia.
Anyone up for DotA/HoN at this LAN? Bring your installers, please.

My family neglected to tell me until I happened to overhear them today that the summer family get together is that day. Normally it would take priority but I'm not 100% sure I'm going to go so... still up in the air :p

probably not gonna be able to make it =(

just found out about this and there's only 4 days left before the event... my bad.
I am very tentative to come. Its almost too easy, live just an hour east... might as well right?
If anyone in the Huntington area needs a ride, I'm more than happy to help them out.

Is everyone flaking out? Is this on? Update? :3

Oh, yeah I'm waiting until the PMs come.
21 Sent, 9 responded.
Confirmed: Phelix ThatsNoMoon Kibibit +1 special guest
Tentative: Pokebunny ZoW masami.sc QuickStriker
Not Attending: Kenpachi funnybananaman hp.Methos shadowarmy75 jpak Rotodyne
Also, I might make this earlier for Amnesia to see if he could come. We might just hang out earlier though. Come whenever you want though. I'm thinking of starting at 11:00 AM just to accommodate them. Ending will probably be at 5PMish.
I assume dinner will be AYCE Korean BBQ, but if you have any other suggestions, feel free to add. Total cost of this trip should be around ~50 dollars. NYC is not cheap, T.T
|
I'll hope 50 will get you at least a meal in flushing, not much food was had at a similar price in K-Town manhattan. :|

So far from the 7 train -_- And the Mets/Twins game is at 1pm too. How often are these LAN parties? And will there be SC2?

There'll definitely not be SC2, Beta won't restart until at LEAST early July. Being terribly out of practice at BroodWar isn't a terrible thing, though.

At 4.5 tenpromicro and I downloaded League of Legends and we played a bit.
I'll bring the files and everything, it took me 5 minutes to run the setup and everything.
|
Updated my list on this page.
Also did not realize the World Cup game happens at the same time. This is what usually happens when I pick a time, some TL/World events occur simultaneously.
|

Whatever, games can be watched online after, meeting up with people and playing SC in person is rarer (: People should gtfo their houses and be a community! I love soccer more than most (almost religious) and I still feel this way. Don't feel bad Phelix! At least then you'll know who really wants to come n_n

HAHAHAHAHAHA
We fail at lan timing so hard.
I am pretty sure I'm coming but not 100%.
|
Btw HoN > LoL.
ze
I shall remember to bring HoN installer this time x_x ; ;
|
Can't we just find a gathering place to watch USA beat the hell of Ghana on Saturday afternoon? I'm sure there's cafes, bars or some place in Flushing we can sit and chill to watch this game. BECAUSE I WANT TO WATCH IT. GO GO USA! (and Korea)! USA VS SOUTH KOREA IN RO8!
|
Because this is a starcraft lan and many people (me) have no interest in soccer.

The only aspect of that game that is better then LoL is the ability to play a polliwog priest.
And maybe Bubbles, I like turtles.

Yeah I am pretty much confirmed as going.
Starting at 11am or 1pm?
|
I guess it will be 1PM, since Amnesia did not respond back to me.
Dinner locations could be the BBQ a block away or Picnic Garden (11 Blocks away)?
Bringing my HoN installer along with SC. Also you could probably watch a stream of the games using various stream sites.
Bring cameras, because I didn't get pics from the last LAN.

Oh ok... I thought you meant you were just going for a 1 hour ceremony or something... no prob.
|
Question: I'll probably be driving from far far away.... what's the parking in that area? As long as I secure a long time parking, I won't have any problems coming. Since we might be there for hours and hours, i don't want to go back and forward only to realize I gotta go every hour or so to put in more quarters... if possible, I would like parking that I can just put and not worry till end of event. So reply asap for this.
|
99.9% chance I'm coming now. See you all tomorrow
|
Just go around 2~4 blocks away from northern into like 35th, 33rd ave and you should be able to find a street parking area.
Or theres a huge parking space near main. You'll need to pay though
|
Oh, parking, there's free parking around usually. No one seems to have found a problem last time finding free parking.
|
United States24351 Posts
Yes the sidestreets across the street from the place we are going to has parking albeit a bit tight.
|
Umm... I have no clue where 35th 33rd ave or free parking area is... like is there a google map or picture of the location so I have a sense of where I can park (for free if possible since I like free) all day? I don't even mind walking a bit as long as the parking is good to park for a while. Thanks!

I am there right now, wearing a crucial memory hog shirt. It has a pig on it, not very hard to miss.
+ Show Spoiler +I am inside now: Phone # is
|
I am literally on the train there as I post this. i'll be a touch late, but i'll be there
|
I'm now departing from home at this moment as soon as the message is over from Staten Island. Should take around 40 minutes to an hour since it only takes about 10 (7 if i speed) to arrive at Brooklyn. I looked at the map and I hope it's accurate... I'm going to park somewhere in the residential areas like some have mentioned so see ya there in an hour-ish!
*Edit* Actually I didn't eat lunch yet and I'm very hungry since I only ate ONE SINGLE donut for breakfast... so I might get like a couple of double cheezburgerz from McDonalds before arriving.... I realize there's one near the area and so is near my house so hmm....

Kibibit pretty much summed it up. The lan was fine, dinner was what you'd expect from Korean BBQ, dessert was memorable (we walked into a bakery and ate a cake lol), and pool was a fun way to end the night.
We had at least a dozen people which is a decent turnout for the nyc lans.
|
Arrived home just now and wow what a fun lan that was. Many things that went on today, one of which was our random 4v4 BGH battle on b.net where 4 of us were all zergs doing 4/5pool against 4 random people. That was fun.
The All you can eat Korean BBQ was awesome, me, Phelix, and Kibibit dishing those BBQ pieces like no tomorrow, I swear each one of us ate like at least a good 5 plate worth of BBQ lol. The cake we ate at bakery was yummy and lol at pool. Definitely a success, just wish it would become bigger one day and become a massive lan next time! But quite fun. GG guys!
NOW WHERE'S THE PICTURES?!?!
|
This was fun, was nice meeting everyone

Some people need to work on their 4 pool build order to try not to accidentally transition into a 5 pool. Screw economy, we have zerglings.
