This excludes 18-20 year olds, as they are of legal voting age.

"The bar and bar owner are not at fault, I take full responsibility on the outcome of this barcraft. If you have any issues what so ever, please take them up with me. Any criticism should be appointed to me and not the bar/owner. However I do promise a better outcome for next time." There was miscommunication, there was a lot that wasn't weighed in, and we were dealt with a hand that had one outcome in the end no matter the venue. St. Patricks + crowd for St. Patricks + crowd for a barcraft. It just didn't balance out well. As I said in my statement don't let this experience get you disappointed, I want to make it up to EVERYONE that did come out. - The bar was actually a great venue for Barcraft. The food was amazing (srsly the wings and sliders were out of control). The TVs were huge and nice. The back space really lent it self well to what we were trying to do. - Having it on St. patty's (ALSO DURING NCAA) definitely made it rough. You gotta think about it like Black Friday for department stores but for bars. They make a killing. While it REALLY sucks that they kicked us out and that watching SC was deemed to be against the vibe of the bar, the owners were 100% right. We DIDN'T fit in with the vibe that they wanted to go for on St. Patty's. It became pretty clear when the DJ started blasting shitty dance remixes of top 100 songs at 3:30 PM. While we definitely provided a significant amount of income, especially during that specific time slot when they normally would not have had a lot going on, I think ultimately people who aren't into SC are gonna come in on St. Patricks and say, "wtf is this? time to move to a different bar." My guess is that they even had people make comments about it. In my opinion I wouldn't stop using this place. Here are some suggestions to make it more smooth next time for both the bar and for us: - negotiate a really specific time frame with the bar - get BOTH TVs in the back - think about charging a small cover fee ($2 or something) if the bar seems reluctant, just to make it worth their while a little more. I know a $2 cover or even $5 would not deter me from coming to another event, although others may feel differently. - think about negotiating a drink special to get booze and cash flowing more freely - Link the raffle to buying a drink. I got the feeling we were spending money but we weren't SPENDING money. I saw a lot of people just standing around with no drinks in their hands looking kind of bored. If you are not averaging a drink every 30-45 mins or so + some food here or there then you aren't really giving the bar the income they want for the physical space you are taking up. The patrons of the bar were kind enough to give us their space, we need to reciprocate and spend. It's just how this kind of thing works. The whole point of having at a bar is so that you can drink heavily and enjoy SC with other people doing the same. If you don't want that just watch it at home. - We had a HUGE showing. If we go back to the bar owner and show that we can do this kind of business regularly, he won't turn it down. There were easily 75 people there for Starcraft if not 100. If just half those people bring 1 more person next time (gf, brother, sister or whoever, even if they aren't into SC but will buy some drinks) that will help too. Maybe you will introduce someone to SC who wouldn't have otherwise been interested. - Getting audio from the games would be great. I know this is probably a HUGE sticking point for the bar as having the audio from MLG REALLY could drive away other business. While I thought that MP was a great venue for Barcraft, if you can't make it work with them I would try a lower end bar. A place that really needs our business would be much more open to having some non traditional bar activities than a place like MP who clearly already caters successfully to the B&T and wall street crowd.

Even before the event got shut down, the venue wasn't great. The space was cramped and confined to the back corner of the bar. Most people were standing and shuffling around trying to get a better view. It was really difficult to know what was happening with only one muted monitor and loud music blasting. Everyone I talked to also felt that the bar didn't accommodate enough to the needs of the large number people who came out for barcraft. When the event finally did get closed down, everyone was at first confused but more upset than anything else. After hearing the frankly vague reasons, it was clear that both parties didn't know what they were getting in to and didn't get exactly what they wanted. I can't speak for the organizer or the bar, but as a customer and starcraft fan all I can say is that I felt screwed over. This was a good chance for barcraft with the momentum of HOTS coming out and MLG as the first event and what happened was flat out disappointing. I will not be returning to Manhattan Proper anytime in the future. However, I thought it was still cool that so many people came out yesterday to watch starcraft. Definitely want to go to the next barcraft and hope it will be at a better venue.

There was no cover, I have never paid a cover for Barcraft, and I've been to most of them. Next time, get things done with written agreements and there will be no misunderstandings.

Pretty sure the bar just started charging a cover without telling anyone. Really shitty.

What exactly was mis-communicated? Was the turnout being unexpectedly high the issue or was it something else? Surely the bar management could tell from the dates presented to them that a problem might arise. Without more details, the only thing I can take away from this is be careful trying to organize/attend Barcrafts or the venue owner will screw you and your participants over, which makes me not want to do anything like this period (organizer or attendee). Good luck with your next event! I hope it goes much better for everyone involved!

There definitely was was a higher than expected turnout, I'm not sure what exact number we told them for a turn out, but it was just basically bad luck that we're in a bar city and stacked on top was St. Patty's
