We're happy to announce that TeamLiquid.net has entered a partnership with ThisIsGame, which will enable us to offer better coverage of the Korean esports scene to fans around the world. ThisIsGame has been at the forefront of Korean StarCraft 2 coverage ever since its release, and it has constantly been a valuable source of news to the international community.
Unfortunately, copyright issues prevented TeamLiquid from presenting translated TIG content to the extent that we wished in the past. With this agreement, we'll be able to provide all the best articles, photos, and interviews from the Korean scene without restriction. With ThisIsGame also expanding their coverage to professional Dota2 following its release in Korea, this partnership could not have been more timely.
Additionally, we look forward to ThisIsGame sharing TeamLiquid's content with the Korean esports community. There's always been an interest in Korea on hearing the 'foreign' take on matches and events, and we hope they enjoy the coverage TeamLiquid.net provides.
Finally, I'd like to thank Ethan Ahn (@Ethan_Ahn) for making this possible. Perhaps the Korean journalist who has shown the most interest in the international esports scene, Ethan has been a long time friend of the site and was instrumental in making this happen.
Will this also mean that TIG will see increased coverage of the events that Teamliquid usually covers, such as foreign sc2 events like Dreamhack and WCS (not KR) and DotA2 events?
Every once in a while I take a step back and think about how awesome it is that there's so much exchange between the foreign and Korean scenes these days. It really wasn't that long ago that we all just had our noses pressed up against the one-way mirror that faced Korean esports, looking in but never getting acknowledged or being able to share or participate. I love that players, fans, and news outlets can really have some dialogue nowadays.
So stoked on this. Ethan Ahn gosu journalist. I'm also proud of all the TL writers that have been doing such a spectacular job for so long, this is really a good showing of confidence in their abilities. If the writers/news team here at TL weren't all so fucking awesome no one would want to partner with them. Way to go TLers!!!
Hell yeah! A long overdue partnership, in my opinion. Can't wait to see tons of sick translated ThisIsGame SC and DOTA content here on TL. I'm looking at you Seeker! <3 Ethan
Fantastic news. When the entire copyrighting issue started to come around with Fomos and so on, it was really felt on the amount and quality of content despite all the fantastic translaters and writers. A good step in the right direction.
GAHD DAYUM. If globalization of SC2 could be represented graphicaly, that graph was already stuck in a forever upward slope, but this? Never counted on this happening. Not only will there be a better newsflow from the best SC2 region in the world, but there's also a scene for Dota 2 developing in KR, with the Nexon league starting soon. Reading korean articles about that is going to be good insight.
The only thing that could make this better is if there was a partnership with fomos as well! But this is certainly an excellent partnership already! Hopefully this will help grow the scene BitByBit (hhehehhe)
