Please vote on what you plan on playing so we have an idea on how to distribute the prize pool! http://strawpoll.me/5550341
Hi everyone, it's almost time for another DC LAN! The best weekend that would work would be October 24th!
With everyone off doing their own things now, and my pockets not being as deep as someone that isn't working full time and not a student, I can't guarantee a very big prize pool, but really, it's about hanging out with each other, having fun and eating some KBBQ anyways, right!?
When: Saturday October 24th, 2015. 12 PM - when we're done (Goal is to get to KBBQ around 10 PM) Where: Monster PC: 7031 Little River Turnpike #13b, Annandale, VA 22003
Cost: $20: Covers you for 12 hours at the LAN center, and will allow you to be in whatever we end up running! *NOTE: If you already have computer time, then you don't need to pay anything, you pretty much just need to pay for your time for the event*
Prize Pool: $220+? - The donations included are from the following lovely individuals:
- $100: BalloonRogue
- $50: Richard
- $20: Akasha
- $50: Freeedom
Hots: 70: NoRegret 30: Mygrain 10: EndOfLine Lotv: 70: NoRegret 30: Mygrain 10: Tyrant Junior If anyone else would like to donate to the prize pool, feel free to post here! It would be awesome if we could get 16 players to show up and have a full bracket!
BROOD WAR MATCH OF THE CENTURY: Tossim: Dinner (even though Rob didn't come to dinner) Bob: $10 Scion: $2 Akasha: $5 Richard: $1 Freeedom: $5
Format: If there are enough people, we will have a Bo3 double elimination bracket, Bo5 winners semifinals and finals. Bo7 grand finals with winner of the winners bracket starting game up 1-0.
Last event, we had a $50 Raynor Party money match, and then a double elim bracket for the people that were there. If we have a better turnout, then hopefully we can run a proper bracket .
If there are not a lot of people, we will have a bunch of money matches (SC,BW,WoL,HotS,LotV Bo5 matches!?) or something until like 3-4PM, since it looks like some people aren't available til later but will show up for dinner. We will have a few different events throughout the day to make sure we aren't out until dinner time.
Map Pool: Current Ladder Maps
Please be sure to post here if you plan on going, so we have an idea as to how many people will be showing up. Hope to see you all there! Feel free to ask me any questions in this thread or by PM.
Please let me know in this thread if you're going to be able to go! I'd like to get an idea of how many people are gonna be able to go! Also, if anyone has an extra couch (or floor) for that night and/or the night before I'd be very grateful .

Hey A9arnn, we met at the last DClan and I had a total blast(I made you drink the last of my soju with me). I can make it on the 24th, and if it's held on that date I can put $100 towards the prize pool.

Tournament for HoTS or LoTV
|
Okay, so the official day is now the 24th! Can't wait to see everyone.
@CruSha: It'll be whatever everyone wants it to be! I'd be fine doing both if people wanna play both games!
|
I will try to come this time to hang out, but not play. Not sure yet though~
|
Well if it's LoTV you can count me in for the tournament. If HoTS i'll probably be there to just watch everyone go at it ^^;
|
Make it 2v2 so I have a chance!!!!!
|
@Crusha: Okay we'll definitely have something with LotV for sure then!
@Jeff: You'd have to convince everyone else to do that .

So does this mean that the main tournament will be played in hots?
|
What game is the main tournament going to be?
|
It depends on how many people end up showing up for each, if there's like 16 people for LotV and 4 people that wanna play HotS, the prize is going to be more for LotV obviously . Conversely, if there's only a few people that wanna play LotV, then there will be more money for HotS. Player turnout will dictate how the prize pool is distributed, since I don't wanna give like 80% of the prize pool to one tournament if there's only gonna be like 30% of the people there playing that game XD.

Instead of just waiting until the day of the tournament to see which games people want to play, can't you just make a poll now in order to gauge interest for one game or another?

Added it to the top of the post. The problem is not everyone is on TL, but I'll try to make sure they see the poll.

if its lotv i may come down and give this a shot
|
there will probably be like 3 balance patches to lotv before this event takes place, I say we stick to hots for now the transition isn't quite that easy/smooth with the major changes.

Hey I'm right in the DC/Nova area but am only a lowly gold Zerg player. Would this be something I should check out, or will this be way over my head?
|
@ 29_coast These events aren't just for people that think they have a chance at winning. It's about the whole situation o_O you have the opportunity to be around a community of people that enjoy watching and playing a game that you also enjoy. Local LAN tournaments are also a really fun experience in general if you've never actually played in one. Even if you lose every game you can always learn from each loss and lets not forget you're not going to get trolled or anything and I'm sure anyones willing to help out with advice or just SC general talk. Enjoy yourself.

I like how KBBQ is ahead of HotS right now lmao,
Anyways @Fred yeah it's not a super competitive environment, and who knows, maybe their beta servers won't even be up that weekend, but it's nice for people to have the option for what it'll be.
@29, if you want to hang out with everyone, it's a great time no matter what skill level you are. For me, I just like going to hang out with my DC friends (I live in Rochester, NY, like 6 hour drive away from DC). I haven't played like any SC2 in months, but I just like hanging around with everyone that I don't get to see all that often. The DMV area has (had? maybe still has) one of the biggest communities for NA SC2 outside maybe Toronto and SoCal, so I would definitely say it is worth the trip if you want to meet everyone from the community. After the tournament is done, we typically go to eat KBBQ right next to the LAN center, so it's a great chance to hang out and shoot the shit with everyone!

I can probably make it to this one I think
