I apologise in advance if this isn't the best place to open this thread. It's my first topic here on TL, and I initially wanted to post it under "Blogs" (as I saw similar posts there before), but I don't have permissions to open a new thread there (maybe not enough posts?)
So the subject is very simple: I'm in Melbourne from 1 week (I arrived yesterday 04/07 and I'll leave on Saturday evening 09/07), I come from France (though I'm actually Italian) and I'm here for a conference so I don't have a whole lot of spare time, but I would like to use the time I have to see and experience as much as possible of this city.
I write here because (although I mostly read topics without posting too much), TL has been a great source for me in the past, and I'm sure that in the worldwide community connected here there are some Australians willing to help me :D
What I'm trying to find out is:
- what are the places / experiences that one *cannot* miss here in Melbourne?
- what would be a good 1 day excursion / short trip outside of the city? I would really love to see some of the nature around here, but I'm not sure where to start from (the whether isn't great these day)
- what are the best places to go out in the evening/night for a drink?
- what are the coolest places to eat, and maybe try some local specialties?
Is there some food that one absolutely has to try here in Australia (they already told me about vegemite )
So far I have been to a small chinese diner in chinatown (ShanDong MaMa) with amazing dumplings, and I had to try the jellyfish salad (not bad!)
I would have loved to catch a Super Rugby match, but unfortunately the Rebels play in NZ this saturday...
In general any advice is super welcome!
Cheers!!
