Thanks to disciple for making me a banner and thanks to Carnac for putting this in TSL forums
So here we go, there seemed to be enough interest for a fully fledged post, so here it is!
On Sunday 28th of February, there will be the TSL finals, a guaranteed PvZ, with the best English commentary around and to pounce of this oppurtunity, I will be hosting a meetup at my house to watch the games on a 26" TV in a pretty spacious room.
I live in Ardingly, a village only a short distance from Haywards Heath rail station, which is about a 30 minute train journey from London Victoria. I can pick people up from Haywards Heath station from anytime after 3pm. Haywards Heath is a mainline station and there are about 9 trains from Victoria that stop there, some from Bedford and London Bridge for example. I will also drive you back to the station where necessary.
I live in a decent sized house with my parents and an older sister with two empty rooms and some sofa beds if people need to stay over. It's not a real problem if you do, but I really need to know in advance and if possible, I'd like to avoid it. I have a 26" TV I can connect to my PC to watch the games on, an 8 seater table for LANing on, a PS3 I can hook up if needed, you can try out Beta on my account (I got in for opt-in) and for afters, there are 2 pubs about 5 minutes walk away. We also have wireless internet.
So that's the following:
- Starcraft LAN for those who bring their laptops
- SC2 Beta for you to try out. (I run this on High visuals and high resolution)
- A PS3 with a bunch of games. I got Street Fighter IV for example.
- TSL Finals starting at 7pm
- Two decent pubs nearby if we want to go out.
It will only cost you your train fare and whatever alcohol you drink. I will grab some frozen pizzas and a case of Cola or something and maybe a case of beer/cider if you guys can agree what you like. There is also a chinese takeaway up the road where I work that you could chip in for if you want. If you bring your latop, bring some Network cables and if someone has a LAN hub, PM me to tell me. If I haven't had a PM, I will buy one.
I know Sunday is an iffy day as people will have work or school following. So check the last trains out of Haywards Heath. I have a 4 seats in my car (it's just a Fiesta) so if you can arrange to come and go in clumps that'd be helpful. As I said, I can have a few sleep here if you really need to but you need to tell me beforehand. If needed, we do have an Inn up the road which I guess I could look into. If you want to drive to my place, PM me for directions/address. It's about 8 minutes from the station in a Village very near by.
Contact Number and meeting info 07882059100 is my mobile. If you have a skype phone and want to save money Flickyfij is my username.
Outside the train station there is a drop off and collection point. I'll pick you guys up from there in a... dark blue Fiesta. I dunno, it's kinda purple. It's R registration and should have a bunkie doll floating in the window.
~So, what say ye, lazy English SC fans?

Wow I live really close to Haywards Heath (i'm in Hassocks).
I'm at uni at the moment though (in Coventry), so put me down as a maybe. I'll definitely make it back if I can afford it. It's awesome that someone is doing this

should I send you guys a box of BIONADE, just to spice up things a bit ?

I'll be in England until the 2nd of March, when I have to get back to Paris in order to fly back home.
Reckon you could make some room for a lowly Kiwi? Not sure what my plans are for around that time yet, but if i'm free i'd be keen.

Damn I would come but Im way up north

I'm not actually very north at all, but it's still a bit far.
|
Sure. I'd be up for it. I live in London but I was going to be visiting my parents in Portsmouth from Friday-Sunday. I'd arrive back at Victoria at 5pm so it'd be a tight squeeze in terms of time...but my timing irl is pretty good too.

I would of loved to be up for it. I'm from Essex and about a half hour train ride from London. But I don't think I'll be able to make it sadly. Very nice idea though!
|
Im up for this, will be coming up from brighton.
|
Eughh I happen to be in Lyon for the weekend... Good to know that there are actually SC fans around though. The UK must be one of the worst countries in the world for gaming culture.
|
Shame the finals are on the Sunday, otherwise I would definitely have come
Good luck with this and have fun tho!
|
I think I will come if at least one of no_re, reno, xelin or tarqes do as well. They are all lazy or poor though so it might be hard.
|
I live pretty damn close to haywards heath im at uni at the mo though, so i'll be a maybe sounds awesome though dude (y)

A lot of the more known UK guys are in the north. Still, I'll spread the word out and see if anyone I know better wants to go. If so then I'll consider it.

I always wondered if there were many people from the UK on here.. what's the deal? We don't seem to have much representation (that I'm aware of) in the SC scene As for the meet, cool idea but I don't think it's really viable for me, got work the next morning. Hope it happens though!

Just came out of about two years of lurking for this lol!
Me and Xelin both might come. For me it depends if i can get my coursework done, for Xelin if he can be bothered to get dressed in the morning i guess.
+ Show Spoiler +The fact that its Nony vs Mondy is inclining me to want to go more i wont lie what a final.

I'd love to come but unfortunately I'm working on that day;; I live in Edinburgh though so it's a pretty damn long train journey.

hmm, I dunno if I can make it, but I'll think about it.
|
Sick idea, i'll ask my flatmate and see if hes up for. Would be awesome to turn it into a lan party but on a sunday probably isnt the best idea
Also wheres all the UK SC tournys @!!!!
|
Trains are fine for me back to brighton, they run till after midnight, lets hope the games last that long!
I could bring my laptop but it is a fairly heavy beast to lug around.
|

I never knew there was this many British people on this site.. I see one like, every blue moon.
As I said in the other thread, college the next day and I live way down south.. if I could drive it would be possible but
Hope it's a blast.
edit: i think the tsl finals should actually be moved back a week so I can come to this. Got half term then. Consider it, TSL admins.

Where is "way down south" because I live a 30 minute drive from the South-East Coast.

Plymouth, at the very bottom of Devon. Wrong side of south for me

never thought id see the day.. im considering this....... dont know the tube too well, appreciated if someone could inform me how to get from victoria coach station to your house, or anyone driving through leeds? :o

I don't think you need to use the tube if your going straight to victoria coach station. It should only be a short walk to victoria train station from the coach station. Then I think you can get straight to Haywards Heath from there.
I can come since I live in London. Sounds awesome hope to see everyone there.
|
gah. knew i shoulda gone to uni somewhere south of durham!
|
Put me down as a maybe if I can get brtarolg to come and let me stay at his house lol
actually wtf haywards heath am I insane or something I can make that easily. Well then I just need to see if I can be bothered on the day .
|
anyone drivin from up north?
|
Grr if only this was in south london I would come, anything past the thames is to much of an effort to drive :S
Nice to see other UK SC peeps.

I think I will have to train it, shared car with dear mother that is needed to take brother to school on monday morning.

Argue the case that train cost -(petrol money/2) > taxi money for brother to school. Trains are ridiculously expensive unless you get tickets 4 weeks in advance.

Or we could just all go to your house. That'd work.
|
Me Tarqes and Nyte and Andy are all gonna go
And we are bringing power ranger costumes! + Show Spoiler + Tarqes is the pink 1 lololol homosexual
|
Seems like all 3 of us will have to stay the night too, looking at train times.
We don't mind crashing on the floor if we have to :D

Man, I would love to come to this, but sadly think i have a 6:30 start at work the following day.

arghhh WISH I COULD GO!
I hope sc2 brings more lans to the uk.. it really should do. :/

I've updated the OP, could everyone who is coming post your ETA for arriving at HH and if you need to sleep here, please PM me and note that you may need blankets/sleeping bags. If you can arrive at any time, I'll group you up with others in the same situation.
Any of you guys got a LAN hub thingy yet? Still don't seem to have one. I'll also be grabbing the pizzas and soft drinks on saturday so if you have any special requests, let me know by then.
|
|
Sadly, I don't think I can make it. I have a video shoot the next day at 07:00 in zone 6.
|
If there's still space i'll hopefully make it. I live pretty close by, so I can just crash at mine after.
I'll probably go back home then drive up to Ardingly, so i'll probably need some details for the sat nav heh. See you guys Sunday!
|
United States40774 Posts
Booked tickets. We should exchange mobile numbers.
|
England2647 Posts
I've added a phone number to the OP.
Also, a few of you still need to tell me your ETA so I can arrange to get you picked up.
For those staying over, you also need to tell me when you're planning on leaving which will have to be pre-12pm I'm afraid.
|
United States40774 Posts
First thing Monday morning. I'm staying btw.
|
We can be out anytime u need us to be , think were going to spend the day in london as the latest andy can leave would be 7pm offpeak time or something, but yeah just let us know when u want us gone and we will dematerialise.
|
Someone take pics and stuff and have a great time etc.
|
im a deffinite aswell now i should have my new laptop by saturday aswell, so i can bring that along for some sc :D i'll be ariving at the same time as aresien seeing as he's giving me a lift ^^ i guess he just needs an address or somesuch?
|
I guess the group of me, Xelin, Tarqes and Nytefish would arrive at the train station around 3.30pm
|
I should be there around 4.30 , but I can aim to arrive at a different time if it makes pickups easier.
|
I'm surprised with so many sc:bw fans from the UK...
i'd love to go but i'm in St. Andrews (middle of nowhere) and it's a real long trip and then the university thing in the next morning... well have fun guys!!
|
Oh man, super jealous now...wish I could come Hope you guys upload some pics!
It looks like I'm not the only one who didn't realise there was this many of us on TL, hope we can arrange some more meets in future.

If you can make it for about 4:30, that'll coincide with red_storm and our kiwi friend.
Some more info, I haven't managed to get a LAN hub, so you'll have to either link directly or use Hamachi with wireless or connection cables (my router has four ethernet slots).
I've also updated the OP so I suggest going back through it all to see any important updates.
|
well im a confirmed aswell! booked tickets, i get in at 4 (but ill meet up with the guys at 4:30) also kinda reliant on a lift the next day for the train at 10!
dont have a LAN hub but im sure we'll be fine with the finals on and the pub nearby. Oh and for the popularity people have been trying to organise a LAN or meetup for a few years without success
|
I can be there! I'll be coming with mogget
|
Damn if only I checked this sooner! Unfortunately I have plans.
Will defo be up for UK lans in the future tho. Especially in London or Birmingham

There was a grudge match with rANDY although that was more by popular demand than any real grudge. I said something along the lines of "it always depresses me when Andy beats me" by which I meant that he's better than I like to admit to myself but it got taken as trash talk and the situation demanded a grudge match. Our best of 7 went to 2-2 before we noticed that whoever had the keyboard tended to win the games. Still, great fun. Andy's death stare vs my tipsy incompetence and stupid builds.
|
Nytefish is A LOT smaller than I thought for some reason... expected him to be some beefed up muvafooker XD

nytefish (gotta spell it nyttyfish if you want ppl to say it) needs to be picked up by large tournies as an observer he honestly was exactly in the right place no matter what kinda of crazy proxy cheesey stuff was going on. seriously good, get on it. kwarks no hands tactic actually worked!, everyone was sound and great meeting u all. cheers to flicky for putting us up (and putting up with us) and tarq mixes one hell of a cocktail although he looked seconds from death when we left in the morning edit: is andy still meditating in the zone?
