GomTV has enjoyed so much success from sponsoring the MSL that they have decided to host their own invitational tournament. This tournament has important ramifications for not just Korean fans, but for fans from around the world. For the first time, pro-StarCraft will be marketed and broad casted specifically to the foreign audience! The best in Korea will be beamed around the world and commentated by our own MyLostTemple. This is our chance to show the power of TL.net and prove that there is a real audience waiting for these services. It is the chance we have been waiting for.

Here is today's press release about the event. Enjoy!

Gretech To Broadcast GOM TV Starcraft Invitational League
Games will be broadcast live both in English and Korean

SEOUL, South Korea, February 5, 2008 - Gretech Corporation of South Korea announced today that it will begin XNOTE-Intel Centrino GomTV Star Invitational, a StarCraft game league made up of the world's best players sponsored by Gretech and supported by XNOTE and Intel.

Games can be watched live on the English homepage (http://gsi.gomtv.com) and previous games are also provided as Video-on-Demand. Under 'Participants,' viewers can see the profiles of the 16 participants of the league as well as the players' best performance video clips.

THIS IS HUGE. Time to show your power TL. Please visit the English GomTV forums, and post your support for this venture. Post with respect, and lets make this a regular occurrence!

Nicolas Alexander Plott, a well known StarCraft commentator in the U.S., will be commenting the games live. Gretech has already successfully broadcast live in English before in November, 2007 when '21st Century Computing Conference' by Microsoft was broadcast by Gretech for four hours both in English and Korean.

Tasteless in tha house! Don't forget who has always had your back Mr. Plott.

For network stability, Gretech invested around 1 million USD dollars in order to support up to 40,000 concurrent viewers online and set up streaming servers in the U.S. and in Japan. In addition, in case there is an unexpected high traffic, a server maintenance team is on standby 24 hours a day 7 days a week while the league is playing.

A million bucks. $1,000,000. No, this is not GGL broadcasting here, this is the real deal. Watching live adds to the stats, and VODs will be available on the page as well. Let's hope that there are few network difficulties and our insomniac lifestyles are rewarded.

International eSports communities are already showing a strong interest. Team Liquid, a StarCraft fan website, broadcast the group drawing live by text, and there is an opinion poll asking 'GomTV Star Invitation Group of Death.' As of this press release, group B with Jaedong, Nada, Much, and Boxer is leading the poll.

Voted in the poll yet? Both the poll and liquibet will follow the event closely. Stay up to date with TL.net

The first match starts on February 17th at 6PM Korea Standard Time.

Group A features:

(Z)sAviOr < Blue Storm > (T)Flash
(P)Anytime < Katrina > (T)Flash
(P)Anytime < Blue Storm > (T)Mind
(Z)sAviOr < Katrina > (T)Mind
(Z)sAviOr < Baekmagoji > (P)Anytime
(T)Flash < Baekmagoji > (T)Mind

You can find the rest of the schedule on the TL.net calendar, or on the GomTV Invitational website.

Ugh, if the stream actually works (and it sounds like it will), my sleep schedule is going to be completely out of whack. Gotta support this, though!

I already posted there. Need to show our support!

I just noticed how incredibly strong group A is, and that Flash is playing in this as well. Combine with Tasteless casting, my interest in the invitational has gone up ten-old. I guess we'll finally see who was the best rookie of last year

EDIT: Just so that everyone knows, the forum is at: http://gsi.gomtv.com/freeboard/ so go post your support there!
