[H] Walling on Moonglaive?

Forum index > Strategy
  pat965   Canada. November 03 2009 07:13. Posts 65Profile
UPDATE: This is how you wall make ling-tight wall-ins on Moonglaive, thanks to blueblimp, xmShake, etc.

+ Show Spoiler +

I'm having difficulties walling on on Moonglaive. I've looked and can't find a solution to my problem, and [G]Walling seems to have an outdated version of the map. The walling problems only apply against zerg.

When I spawn on the bottom right, it's easy to make a ling-tight wall. This is my ideal spawning location against Zerg.
+ Show Spoiler +

When I spawn on the bottom left, it's easy to make a ling proof wall in the front, but the side entrance can fit zerglings through.
+ Show Spoiler +

Now, the top spawning location is the most troublesome for me, as for some reason, marines can not fit through the wall, but Zerglings can. Basically, an early ling rush will just murder me.
+ Show Spoiler +

My question, I guess, is that if I plan on going mech on Moonglaive, is my only option (if I spawn on top or bottom left) to just cram some marines in the openings? Is there a ling proof sim city (within my main) that I can make that will at least prevent me from losing, considering my weak micro? Am I making my wall wrong? I've grown too fond of walling to give it up now, but I'm avoiding this map like the plague!

it is so hard finding good wall, maybe try placing your building in alternate pattern, like on the other side of the wall.

I remember trying to improvise a wall in Neo Requiem, which I thought was fool proof, then lings past by... later on Ultralisks passed by o.o I was so depressed I never played that map again.

Ah, I forgot to mention, I can't build on the craggly rocks, and even if I place my racks as far south as I can, lings can still sneak between it and the wall. The only way to prevent this is to build the barracks slightly up and to the left, but then the depot wall will not reach the right wall.

Alert me to this type of shit if my walls are out of date.

Solution to 7, Use 2 depots like this:
+ Show Spoiler +

There is no way you can wall perfectly against zerg at 12 nat. Best you can do is shown in the picture below, with a scv blocking.

lol ;D. op topic: at the 7 o clock base, try putting depot in the other side of the cliff
Warning: "Trolling stuff" above is highly possible.

lol how can ultras pass a wall

jo man, the wall goes like that: 1st supply on the left, a bit more up and left then your barrack in picture, then with the barrack you do the first part of wall, rax position goes to do a line with upper border of the 1st supply, then if you scaut lings that you cant stop you add a 2nd supply in middle where lings passes, all clear? hope that will help you.

but moon glave is really more a mnm map

Sorry, I'll alert you in the future.

And this of course solves my problem, while the SCV block is not ideal, it seems to be the only solution, and I'll get used to it. I found this works too

[image loading]This is the only wall I could create - is it incorrect? Lings can slip through, marines can't... not to mention, it requires 3 depots to achieve this! However, a zealot proof wall would be much easier, just depot on right of barracks

Are you certain you cant wall 12 biggy with Rax to the Left of a Factory, because [rax][fact] is impassable for lings, even if you have the bottom left corner of the fact touching the top right of the rax (see HeartBreak Ridge Waiilins).

This is also nice because your firsst vult would spawn outside your base so ne need for lift/land.

Finally, when you used two depots on top of eachother for the Bottom Right position, maybe try an e-bay, rax or fact instead...
I dont actually have Moon Glaive as of yet so I cant actually try it but that's my 2 cents advice. Hope it helps
F*ck yeah, Sportainment!

Well, the Rax and Factory can wall it, but I don't like it, as adding a machine shop would require I lift off and such, and since factory is at 16, it won't be quick enough to stop any early aggression. But that's just me, I've seen people use the fac wall and it works for them so that's good.

Also, when you say bottom right do you mean bottom left? Bottom right is fine. I've tried barracks, and it works, but it would force me to leave my front area wide open, or build another rax (but I'm going mech, so I won't do it)

i wouldnt recomend opening on this map with a wallin

infact the only way to wallin r the ways uve displayed here

however i dont think anyone in pro scene are going to wallin on this map cause of the distances and the symmetric differences. if u have a build u want it to work on all positions else its too much wasted practice if it just works 33% of the games u play for example
ultralisks are bigger in person

^yes. Whenever I wall on this map I either lose a supply or have to lift and fight due to the distance from main to nat. I do however make an effort to wall the path to min only
