Since I have started starcraft I have been with zerg. Knew some of the build orders and it was much more natural for me.Though I have started to look at terran and am starting to like their style. Though when I play online with them I lose to early rushes, since I dont know how to defend against them. Anybody have any tips on that? (Sorry if this is in the wrong area, thought it would fit more into strategy)

watch some replays and play a bunch of games with both races to find out what matchups are most fun for you to play

These are terrible posts.
I think this is a question asking which race to learn. Take anderoo's advice I suppose. I was kind of in the same position as you when I started. I felt zerg was natural, but was kinda interested in terran. Just play both, and you will decide once you understand the match-ups. I decided on zerg if you're any interested.

If you're losing to a lot of rushes and not having any fun you should consider only playing on maps where you can make a ling-tight wall (e.g. Destination, Blue Storm, Python). Just walling in like that practically guarantees your survival until the mid game. Also, try and avoid aggressive maps like Medusa and Longinus where you're most likely going to get 10/15 rushed. Obviously you're a chump is you stick to "map picking" for too long, but it's a simple way to ensure midgame survival and help boost your confidence.

Get some experience with each matchup and figure out for yourself what you really like to play. Also, unless you are really keen on becoming really good really fast, don't worry too much about playing a single race. When I started out learning to play the game properly I would always play whatever matchup I was keen on at the time. I mean, every Protoss player has to get a hankering for some good ol' TvZ/ZvT once in a while...

From a 2000 iccup point player (hit D+, but not really D+):
For me deciding on Terran took a long time. I actually started as zerg and shifted between t and p and then zerg, and then terran for good. With both races you can be tricky, because terran can lift buildings and proxy them anywhere buildable. Zerg, on the other hand, also has many openings that include mostly rushes and fast tech switches.

Terran will usually play a bit of a turtle before they get going, so the change in pace is sudden. Many can do fine early game and early-mid-game but fall apart once they have things to do other than macro. Zerg is usually more of a gradual increase than a sudden shift, but it can be sudden as well.

If the only thing preventing you from learning terran is getting rushed and failing to defend, don't be too deterred. Learn proper wall ins and how to react vs any kind of , especially vs protoss: 2 gate dragoon, 2 gate zealot, and 14 nexus.
q( ¬_¬ )p That's two thumbs down. Failed four times while writing this quote.

Learn to wall first. Most important thing to learn as terran (imo as a Z) because you will not get into longer games and consequently improve your play if you don't have a tight wall to sit behind.

If you like self inflicted torture and feeling like you are a bumbling idiot who cant win a computer game, yet you nerd rage so hard you push through the pain blood and tears for months on end until you finally manage to eek out a C- rank on iccup you should definatley pick zerg or terran.

If you like to win and feel good about yourself pick protoss.

oh and you should definately take into consideration costs for keyboards if you pick teran or zerg.

but maybe im just too competitive...

You forgot the swarms of constipated zealots, dragoons speaking like Stephen Hawking and the super weapon - a good year fucking blimp filled with butterflies.

Seriously though, Terran is fucking SICK. When marines die, they don't just die - their entire bodies fucking explode. We have a unit that walks right up to its enemies and sets them on fire. The only invisible units we have can actually be killed, plus they do hardly any damage... that is unless we decide to drop a nuclear fucking bomb on you for our own personal amusement. Yeah, fuck aliens.

Turtling terrans are easy to beat unless they turtle like Flash and have better macro than you.
