I don't understand how to defend against really good vulture harass.
Terran can just be everywhere, even if I leave goons at places. They just mine up so well, that when they kill my defending force, it's hard for me to send reinforcements because they'll just run through the minefield. With the constant probe rebuilding, I'm only able to maintain 5 gates total while they run me over with a push. Ugh, I'm just so frustrated.
I did my best trying to defend against harass, even leaving 4 goons at my third. If you can help me with my defending, that would be awesome. Thanks.

| I hated my corsair and complained about not having a groundfighting unit. Apparently probes can fight ground units. |

| a cool feature would be able to choose ur icon from a list of ones you've had/unlocked in the past. Like if I think firebats are totally badass having the option to select to keep the firebat icon would be sick. |

1. You should put cannons down at your third ASAP, even putting a pylon there before putting down your nexus. 2. You can wall off one of the bridges to your nat (the bottom one if you're at 12 and the top one if you're at 6) so it's harder for the T to run-by with vultures. 3. You need to keep your goons and obs moving around in the middle of the map to defend your 3rd. It seemed like you only reacted to what the T did. If he moved vultures somewhere, you moved in response. Be ready to react but you can also position goons ahead of time to be ready for it. 4. You lost a lot of goons to mines and you got behind in supply pretty quickly. Upgrade observer speed first so it can keep up with goons and be sure to keep a control group of goons together with one ob up so vultures can't surround and own you with mines. 5. You could take the other 3rd and wall on the ramp with 3 pylons. Just be sure to put cannons down quickly or else you'll have to deal with a drop there with only zealots. Battlecruisers are awesome as icons.
Oh and pylonwalls or cannons at your 3rd, 4th, 25th etc... And if its really early, you should be able to stop him at your contain. |

Thanks Banzu! What's a good timing for the forge? I don't want to get it too early or else the forge/canons will delay my gates too much.

You need to keep map control and remove the mines he plants over the map so the trap thing doesn't happen. If you don't move your units out until you realize he's attacking then you can often recklessly 1a2a3a and die to unexpected mines. Rally most of your units on his side of the map.
A few options about defending the harass:
a) Put a couple cannons at your 3rd (easiest way) b) Put multiple dragoons at your 3rd - Even if you only have like 8-12 at the time, you can put like 3-4 at your nat, 3-4 at your 3rd, and keep the rest outside his base, denying scouts and seeing when eh moves out. Obviously those dragoons aren't meant to defeat his push, but when he does move out is when you pull your units defending up and get ready to flank. c) Keep constant map control - Keep units spread out by cliffs and along the edge of the map to simply not let him cross the map at all. Probably quite hard for low level players, but with constant watch over the minimap and his base you can completely stop his units from getting out at all.
Of course you can put cannons and units at your bases, but it's redundant and those 2 cannons could have been used for 2-3 zealots/dragoons to fight his push. Probably won't affect you too much at low levels, but when you face Terran players that have good timing those extra 2-3 units are precious.Last edit: 2009-11-05 10:24:00 |

| I wouldn't consider myself "high level," but I would still like to know a timing for my forge and cannons that doesn't delay my unit production that much. This game was played at the C level, which isn't progamer level, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot by making that type of mistake. |

You're C rank?
As far as I know I'm only D+ at best D:
I typically put down a forge sometime around when I put down a pylon (the pylon for making cannons at my third). But it does depend on the map/build/opponent. @_@
When do you usually get it? |

completely depends on what the opponent is doing. send your obs to his main base to determine what he's opting for and how you need to react. if he's doing a timing push you cannot afford to put down forge + cannons. he won't be harassing as much if he's executing a timing attack, but you still need to place your goons at important chokes/bridges/whatever. if he's going for a third base then you can usually get it after your third finishes and probes start fully mining. if i want faster arbiters i may delay it even a little bit longer. |
