Has anybody else noticed that there are a bunch of good sequels that are in production or being released soon? I'm really excited about the following games.
Starcraft 2

Needs no introduction. I had to change the first sentence from "good sequels being released soon" to "good sequels that are in production or being released soon". I'd rather Blizzard take their time than rush and release a bad game.
Bioshock 2

Bioshock was one of the best games of 2007. IGN, BAFTA, Game Informer, and Spike TV awarded it Game of the Year. In Bioshock 2 you play as a Big Daddy.
Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare is probably one of the top 10 FPS games of all time.
Final Fantasy 13

Yeah... It's not really a sequel but it's coming out this year and FF is a cool series.
Assassins Creed 2

TBH Assassins Creed 1 was really disappointing. The plot wasn't that interesting and it was really repetitive but Ubisoft says that they've fixed it. The trailer and the short movie thing both look good so I'm excited.
Left 4 Dead 2

Yeah... A lot of people don't like how L4D2 is being released instead of just improving L4D1 but I don't really care. Looks like it's going to be a fun game.
Did I miss any? Probably... I've practically stopped gaming this year. The only game I have installed in BW and I only play that like once a month or so. If these games turn out to be as good as I hope I'll probably start gaming again though. |

| yea this is one of those rare times in the video game industry when all the top games look like candidates for Game Of The Year. Too bad for Sony that PS3 still isn't at Wii and 360 levels. |

mehh not looking forward to assasin's creed 2. those who played assasin's creed 1 know how much of a let down it was...i guess i'm cautious of being hyped about the 2nd one now. Bioshock 2 and Cod MW 2 should be really exciting though |

Looking forward to SC2, GW2, D3, AC2, and maybe FF13. A bunch of my friends are waiting on MW2 as well.
I haven't played very many of games where the sequel was better than the original. It's hard to please fans I guess because their expectations are so high. |

Very true...
But the sad fact is, although these games will all likely be great, the reason there's so many sequels popping up more and more commonly in the industry is due to the fact that publishers can't afford to take risks. The cost to develop a game keeps rising, and therefore it's going to become much less common to see new IPs in the realm of AAA titles.
Fortunately, services like the PSN, Steam, and Xbox Live still provide the grounds for innovative and indie titles. I <3 indie games. |
