The Liquipedia Review - Volume IV
Brought to you by mikeymoo and Imperator We are still quickly approaching 1000 articles in Liquipedia! (We had 1000, but some of those were empty or temporary >_< ) The last Q&A session was a huge success, thanks for tuning in! If you missed it, you can find all the details you need here. We are currently working on a transcript of the event, so stay tuned for that, or PM one of us to see how you can help!
1. Liquipedia Q&A
As mentioned above, Liquipedia Q&A Episode 2 has ended! If you missed it, never fear! The details are above in the first paragraph.
If you're unfamiliar with what the Q&A covered, there has been a surge of theory supporting the use of Dark Archons in the Protoss versus Zerg matchup. Notice the absence of Dark Archon builds there. It has not been considered viable for standard play. Protoss has been suffering as of late. Some blame the maps, some blame Jaedong. Regardless, the example we'd like to mention as a followup to the Q&A is from the game below. If you have been keeping up with Proleague, you'll know what we're referring to. If not, we've kept the game in question in spoilers.
Spoil yourself below:
2. Tee Ess El (and lesser Starleagues)
The Pokerstrategy.com TSL has been announced! Does anybody remember the Razer TSL? We're missing some pages on some of the hotshots in the tournament, like the Russian Monster, BRAT_OK. Do what you can to help! Also (when the day is here), if you have some time away from laddering in the Pokerstrategy.com TSL, help us make pages for potential up-and-comers!
And, as always, Liquipedia is steadily increasing its pages on Starleagues, whether they are in Korea, or a foreign tournament. It is a large undertaking, and we still need your help! Check out the OSL and MSL here! A good example of a Starleague page is the EVER 2008 OSL. To be the best, we need some information from tournaments of long ago. It doesn't take long to make a small page, and someone else can pick up your work and take it from there! Or, you could make the whole thing and maybe earn yourself a Liquichievement!
Keep yourself up-to-date with the EVER 2009 OSL. (Note the shiny new tabs in the Results and Standings page!) We even do Results and Standings for weekly Proleague! Be sure to check out the cute little TV icon beside every game! It links you to the VOD itself. Isn't that awesome?
You'll notice a lot of red links in the OSL section- these are missing articles. If you do choose to help out, make sure you look at our Style Guide. For those of you new to editing the wiki, we have a tutorial put together by our very own Pholon.
Feel free to PM any of the staff with any questions you may have.
3. Liquipedia on the forums
A few things have come to our attention thanks to the forums on TeamLiquid. Firstly, we are aware that some of the builds in the strategy section of Liquipedia are missing details about the theory and understanding of common BO's. Unfortunately, the staff isn't very well-versed in every build order. So, as usual, we need your help! (You do know what a wiki is, right?) With your help, we can help less experienced players like Yakyak (his thread is here.)
We would also like to mention Diamondback2 for his excellent work, in this week's Review. He is almost into full swing, updating map pages with strong BO's. Please, read his opening post (OP) properly, so you know what the thread is all about: Click me!
4. User in Spotlight An interview with Imperator, editor and forum member extraordinaire: + Show Spoiler + LP: So, introductions. Tell us about yourself.
Imperator: I am Imperator, and I hail from the United States. I am currently a CS and Physics double major at UC Davis.
LP: Well, how did you get into StarCraft? And how did you find Team Liquid?
Imperator: A friend sent me a link to some GOMTV Season 3 preliminary games. I watched them, and got hooked. He also sent me a link to TL as a useful way to find out stuff about playing StarCraft.
LP: And why did you decide to become such a force in Liquipedia? What inspired you to do so?
Imperator: I first visited TL right when Liquipedia was starting. I have always been interested by wikis, and the ability to get involved with one just starting out appealed to me. I started out just fixing things stylistically, but then I made my way to TLPD and started filling in information too. As time progressed, I found myself pulled ever deeper as I absorbed all of documentation wikipedia has, while simultaneously getting more into the StarCraft scene itself.
LP: Where do you think Liquipedia is going in the future? Is there anything in particular that excites you?
Imperator: I see Liquipedia as becoming the definitive source for information concerning Strategy and the pro scene. That very idea excites me tremendously.
LP: How do you think this can be accomplished? How can the average StarCraft enthusiast begin to contribute to Liquipedia?
Imperator: I think it is only a matter of time, as we get more users who contribute and more information finds its way to Liquipedia. Wikipedia started out small, and has grown far larger than anyone imagined. So too will Liquipedia, as more people discover and contribute to it. The average enthusiast should start out by just correcting minor errors they find. Once they are comfortable with that, they can move onto making content revisions. We encourage people to be bold if they think that they can make a page better. If you have any ideas, but don't want to edit, feel free to PM any of the staff, and we will be happy to do it.
LP: I suppose we'll wrap things up. List: One thing you are proud of in Liquipedia, one thing that can be improved, and one thing that should be added in the future.
Imperator:I am proud of our R&S pages, such as the 20099EVER OSL or the current Proleague. I think our strategy section is in need of improvement. And I think we should add more information about the history of the pro scene.
LP: Any final thoughts?
Imperator: I would just like to thank TL for creating Liquipedia, and for all of the contributors (past, present, and future).
5. Bee Gee Aitch + Show Spoiler [Map picture] + Big Game Hunters is a gigantic part of almost every player's StarCraft: Brood War experience. Therefore, it only follows that Liquipedia needs to have information on it. So, without further ado, ch-ch-check out an overview at this page, which leads to more in-depth guide such as the BGH map page or Beginner's Guide to BGH.

| There's a glaring hole in the choices for the poll. Unless you want that group of people to not show up in the poll! |

| I love liquipedia and I do my best to add/edit whatever I can come up with but my problem is that I have so many thoughts that they're hard to put down in print. |

| True, zero shouldn't be an option. I browse whenever I can and add/edit whats there. Great stuff so far, especially for strategies. |

Every page has discussion pages, where you can discuss the material to be added/edited/removed.
EDIT: Seems like there is a trend of the news poster being the interviewee as well Last edit: 2009-11-13 22:33:06 |

Damn right!
And yeah, it looks a bit weird if the poster is also the interviewee. But nobody interviewed himself so far, I think. |

Hopefully we can keep the BO section going. It's been a little slow with Artosis at WCG and Day(9) planning his involvement in it (which is coming I'm just not privileged to say how lol ).
And now Oystein is on board. Hopefully I can snag Ahzz and a couple other top players, I know it has helped me go from 1300-1500 D player to a low D+ just doing this.
Thanks for the help everyone! |

| I don't think the format of the strategy section is conducive to edits... But that's just me. |
