▶ Shinhan Proleague 09-10 Round 1 Week 6 Set 2
◆ STX vs Khan
Hello. This is OGN caster Park Young Wook! (Kingdom)
Stork played extremely well in the WCG tournament, which led to a new nickname 'gogook toss'(?). However, perhaps because of his schedule, he did not play much in the Proleague.
Khan was stumbling between 11th and 12th place when Stork arrived. We'll have a look at set 2 from Khan vs STX on Outsider for today.
The map in consideration is Outsider SE. It used to show tendencies to favor zerg, but more and more tosses are now playing on the map. Likewise, today's match is a PvP.
Kal spawned at 1 while Stork spawned at 5. Stork sent his scouting probe early and found Kal's base. Then they both made 1 zealot and proceeded to tech.
Kal jumps his probe across mineral lines
Kal, who scouts late, checks 9 first and then jumps his probe across the mineral line at 7. Kal was obviously predicting Stork to expand to 6.
This is when their builds split. Kal goes Goon Range -> Robotics -> 2nd Gateway while Stork chooses Expo -> Robotics -> 2nd Gateway -> Goon Range.
You could say that Kal, who wanted tech and units went for a more offensive build while Stork went for a more economic build.
Kal harasses Stork's 6
Kal took his 12 expo later but chose to harass Stork's 6 with a shuttle to balance the economic favor stork took. With 1 shuttle and 4 dragoons, he negated Stork's eco advantage and took a lead in units.
Kal then chose to attack. Taking advantage that Stork had some goons positioned at 6, he attempted to bust through Stork's main ramp with the help of 1 shuttle with 2 reavers. Because Stork's shuttle with a single reaver had already left to harass Kal, it looked hard for Stork to defend successfully.
Kal had observers looking over Stork's ramp so he attacked. Stork with some excellent goon micro sniped the shuttle as well as a reaver. Left with only 1 reaver, Kal was forced to retreat and Stork succeeded in defending.
At the same time, Stork's reaver managed to kill 2 probes, while his Shuttle speed upgrade finished, which would allow him to harass more effectively later.
Stork pushes to Kal's natural
With their mineral expos established, both players moved to secure their natural. However, Stork who built his 2 reavers + shuttle first attacked. Kal had a nice trick of putting dragoons on the hill but he only had 1 shuttle and 1 reaver. As a result, Stork exhibited some of his pimpest unit micro.
He first sniped Kal's shuttle with his goons and then killed Kal's reaver with his 2 reavers; a major victory for Stork. Kal managed to survive with newly created units, but Stork with his reinforcements managed to destroy Kal's newly created Nexus at his natural.
Stork with his advantage, continued to harass kal's 12 and 3. Kal also harassed in return, but because Stork had more nexuses, he remained ahead even when he took equal amount of damage.
Stork defends Kal's last all-in rush
Kal, who knew Stork was heavily in favor, attacked with one final rush. Stork however used Kal's earlier strategy of placing goons on hills. While half of Kal's army was occupied with Stork's goons on hills, Stork's goons killed 2 reavers and a shuttle out of Kal's 3 reavers and 2 shuttles.
Kal charged in without Zealot speed, which Stork defended flawlessly with 3 reavers behind him. While all this was happening, Stork's 2 zealots and a goon destroyed Kal's Nexus at 3.
Stork again harassed with a DT and assaulted Kal's army with speed zealots, lots of goons, HTs, and 3 reavers. Kal GGed.
With consistent harassment and shining control, Stork saved Khan. He later won the Ace match, thus securing 2 wins in a day. Clearly Stork and Khan's proleague is only just starting.
