Hi, I just watched the video of Ogogo's visit in Paris, France. At the end, they are showing his "magic left hand". If you take a close look, you can see that the A and Q key and the Z and W key are switched on his keyboard. Is is a special Starcraft keyboard? I didn't even know that this kind of adjustment is allowed during tournaments. Is this common among pro-gamers? Drazzzt aka ShortNotice

it wasn't a tournament hmm why shouldn't it be allowed to make adjustments on your gear?

I think it's really handy though ^^ .. make the P from probes a q : )

Ok, it was no tournament, sure . But he will always use it like this and, thus, also in the tournaments he plays. Btw., the video can be found on bwchart.com.
There used to be a tool (maybe there still is, i don't know) named dockstar (or something similar to that), which allowed you to change the keys on your keyboard and to move the 9 icons on the right-bottom of your starcraft screen to the keys: QWE, ASD, and ZXC (YXC on german keyboards). As far as I know, these program was prohibited for tournaments (at least in Germany, WCG I don't know). Ok, here you change your gear and do not use a program. But....

that tool (doxstar) is used by quite a big part of the german players i know of. they don't want to admit they're cheating. T_T
i don't really get why ogogo would do that tho. i know its forbidden at wcg (as is doxstar) but maybe nobody noticed. in the end, ogogo doesn't have to play on korean tv anyway. D; but swapping q and a doesn't give you a real advantage and if you already got zerglings so close to 's' you could just get swap a and h for hydras or so; at least something useful.

i dont see the point of chaning it .. i only want all the keys closer together.. hence smaller keyboard : )

You mean smaller hand

so ur saying instead of QWERTY he had AZERTY? :p makes sense imo, u said it urself, he was in France meaning he used French keyboards (azerty) instead of the more standard QWERTY version.

This doxstar issue has been discussed to death and unluckily in germany the same lamers that buy a 50 Euro ++ Mouse/mousepad combo with programmable buttons etc think it to be cheating if anyone else changes keyboard setting. (Hi Asta).
This whole stance is completely incoherent. For example are the English hotkeys mucho better than the Germans, yet exchanging your starcraft localization dll is not considered cheating while using doxstar is? And yes, changing your Windows local scheme ALSO changes hotkeys in starcraft, so you can make and xmodmap.starcraft equivalent in windows if you like ;-), maybe even xmodmap.protoss, etc ... ^^
Also: 1. Korean progamers use it on tv and it's generally allowed in pro leagues.
2. Blizzard has classified it as noncheating 3rd party addition (go search the archives at blizzard.com)
3. Wgtour disallows cheats, but does NOT classify doxstar as cheat. So according to 2. it is allowed. (The same as you may use Winamp while playing).
4. It's free, so no money required.
I have not seen a single valid point for declaring it illegal and German leagues are the only leagues I know of where it is not allowed. Traditionally we are the experts of "Miesmachertum" I guess ;-)

i don't want to discuss about that once again. but the fact that there are mouses that give a player the same unfair advantage as doxstar doesn't make doxstar more fair. if doxstar wouldn't give players an advantage most ppl wouldn't use it. so why would anyone try to defend it?
ah forget it! 8[

So many posts, while this one is the only one that actually answers his question
Doesn't anyone here know about AZERTY keyboards....

koehli is right, also i think doxstar is available via the ToT homepage. or at least tot dari made it for winXP. and OH NO, blizzard made hotkey mods explicitly possible for wc3, now all skill is gone, oh no.

he already said it's on www.bwchart.com (the ultima gate opening; ogogo played the french national team there as u might know)

I don't really have an opinion of dockstar.
Making your own custom Keyboard should be totally legit though.

I have to admit that I didn't know about french keyboards having "azerty" instead of "qwerty" or "qwertz" (german). So, this has to be the right answer . Nevertheless, I find it very interesting that ogogo was able to play on that kind of keyboard (at least, if he usually uses different ones), because "a" and "z" are important keys. For me, it would be hard to play on such a keyboard. If think I would curse at the different placement. But as I am no pro-gamer.......maybe it's just me .
About the doxstar issue: I also can't understand why they are not allowed in german leagues. It's a tool that's free for download and everyone who complains about an advantage using it, could use it as well.

doesnt matter what it says on the keyboard itself, cuz u can still switch the keyboard profile in windows or whatever os u are running

Does anyone know where I can get DoxStar? I hate having to move my hand all the way across the keyboard to hit "P" for probe....
