| Just finished my 100 turn demo the game has quite changed. Also attack people and then demanding shit from them for peace actually works out in my favor alot lol. |

| i was a pretty huge civilization fan back in the day, so ordinarily i should be psyched for this game. and i kind of am, although i won't be buying it. starcraft takes up too much of a role in my life for there to be any other video game at this point, as depressing as that sounds |

Does the box version come with anything special or should I just buy it on steam?
Edit: Looks like there is no printed manual, so steam it is.Last edit: 2010-09-22 08:42:42 |

I play on 1680x1050. If I can get smooth gameplay on every game that I play at high settings, I don't see how Civ 5 is capable of beating down my machine.
Also I got Civ 5 to run smoothly for a few minutes but I alt tabbed and it's dead again =(Last edit: 2010-09-22 14:29:28 |

Are you in DX10 mode, or DX9.
The G92 never did DX10 too well anyways and the benefits are so minor you probably wont notice.Last edit: 2010-09-22 14:56:12 |

I am enjoying it thus far, though certain aspects of it are annoying to me.
Good Stuff:
- The combat system is vaaaaastly improved, though not as well as I think it could have been. No more stacks of doom, at least!
- The new take on cultural expansion, as well as the swap-out of the civic system for social policies feels more fleshed out than in Civ IV. The trees within the policies are more interesting than the set bonuses from civics, as well.
- The AI seems a good deal more intelligent, and diplomacy feels better in general. AI makes smarter choices in regards to both, and there is a wider array of diplomacy options that I felt were missing in the past.
- Hexagons felt really strange at first, but in terms of tactics, with the new combat system in place, I think it's a smart choice.
- I like that leaders talk in their own languages, even if they're not usually saying the text displayed to you.
Bad Stuff:
- City-States are more annoying than not to me, so far. They provide an interesting distraction from time to time, but I feel like I'm going to limit their numbers by a lot in future games. (Default setting is twice as many city-states as there are actual civs on the map.)
- Music and technology quotes are really lackluster so far. This was a huge plus in Civilization IV's ambiance that I just haven't felt yet from this iteration.
- The interface is HUGE. Seriously, I could do without the gigantic portrait of my selected unit. This is with the smaller interface option turned on. Perhaps I just need to hike up my resolution, but for the moment, this is a big pain point.
The combat is definitely the biggest improvement, the interface or the lackluster sound presentation the biggest pain points. I'm definitely still enjoying it and getting the "one more turn" experience, though, so worth my money thus far! |

| City states i find are alright in terms of game mechanics ionno if they are worth the trouble to maintain allies with alot of city states. |

| Has anyone noticed that there is a severe lack of Iron/Copper/Etc. on these maps or is it just me? It's getting pretty frustrating that I've played 5 full games so far on Continents and I've had to wait until Industrial Area before I found some freaking Iron or Copper. I only had one lucky game where I spawned near like, 15 nodes lul. |

Yep, same issue here. Seems the tactical resources apart from horses are pretty badly devided on the landmass, had a game where toku had the monopoly of 7 iron on our continent with 3 other civs, made for some fun warfare T_T, or better said termination of my plans to partake in it.Last edit: 2010-09-23 07:30:21 |

Just had a game where I won with the space race victory as Russia. In the end I had about 20 iron, 18oil, 52(HOLY CRAP, SIBERIAN RICHES) horses, 18 aluminum and 2 uranium, so it wasn't that bad. |

| The resource nod can be adjusted in the advanced creation when you make a game. I didn't have any trouble with them. |

| Combat is perfect now. Flanking and taking out ranged units (since they're half as strong in melee) is actually important. Once you get optics any unit can go on the water very quickly and easily to flank and reposition. Cities defend themselves and the social policies you choose are really important and you cant go back on them. City-states give bonuses that are at near wonder level once you become allies. Civ bonuses are crazy important as well and since they're all unique it really gives a play style to each country. I've never seen a game improve this much from the last when it already was a solid game. |

Yeah its good and the improvement to combat are really interesting.
My main issue would be that they gave up on the religion mechanic which I found very cool in civ4. |

| My main grudge against the game is visual. I don't like the mini map. It's too blank and I feel it lacks customization. I'm playing at all-high and some details of the game don't fit - like rivers meeting oceans look odd. |

This is 100% true. I've had a military city-state give me the giant robot of doom once. |
