[Interview] 'Tushin' - July

Interview with July

TL note:
This was an online interview done by "Enjoy E-Sports".
These questions were asked by many different fans, so the questions jump around a bit.

The interview was performed online, so I skipped all the emoticons (^^), laughter (ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ), and etc. I’ll put “(laughs)” wherever appropriate instead.

Q: July, say hi to your fans
A: Hello. Nice to meet you, this is “Tushin”, July.

Q: You haven’t played any televised matches recently. How are you these days?
A: I’m practicing diligently and I’m practicing for both Proleague and MSL at the same time.

Q: What is the reason for your lack of appearance in Proleague? Is it because you’re not performing well during the ranking games or is it something else?
A: It’s true. I did pretty badly on the intra-team rating games so I’m kind of depressed right now. However, I’m practicing hard so I should be able to play sometime in the future.

Q: Are you as reckless in real life as you are in game?
A: People do say that I’m reckless (laughs) but I don’t really think so… I’m a nice guy.

Q: Did someone influence your aggressive style of playing or was it your own freestyle?
A: Of course someone influenced me. I liked all the past Zerg players, but I think YellOw’s style affected me the most.

Q: What’s your most beloved Zerg unit? Your Zerglings that surrounded the enemy after you threw away Lurkers? Or your Mutalisks that you used to click like crazy before Mutalisks stacking was found? Or something else?
A: Wow that’s a very sharp question. I feel proud of both of those controls, but I think my Mutalisk control affected the game more in that era. But also, I was the first one to just throw away Lurkers and then overrun them with Zerglings, so I feel proud of that as well.

Q: Your Mutalisk control used to be so good in the past that there were Use Map Setting maps with your name. It seems that your control has gotten worse from before. What do you think about current players’ control?
A: Mutalisks control these days is unreal. I’m losing pace in my ZvZ because of my Mutalisk Control, and I’ve been losing a lot. Because I’m feeling the lack of skill, I’m practicing hard for it. You’ll be able to see good Mutalisk control again like the past.

Q: I personally think that your ZvP is the best in the history. Who do you think is/was the toughest opponent? If it’s hard to pick one person, you can list about 3.
A: I guess people who have played a lot of games with me but have even records such as Bisu and Stork. It’s hard to pick one and it’s really fun to play with them.

Q: When you moved from MBC to SKT1, fans expected a lot from you but you couldn’t revive there. Was it because you didn’t get along with the members? Also, how does your skill level compare to your skill level during your peak? Do you still think you can win a title?
A: There were rumors about me not getting in good relationships with SKT1 members, but it’s false. The reason I came out of SKT1 was because despite expecting a lot from it, I didn’t do well record-wise. My skill level is definitely better than I was during my peak. However, other players have gotten a lot stronger as well so I would have to try continuously to be on par with them. Lastly, I do believe that I have a chance of getting a title. I want to achieve it.

Q: You went through MBC, SKT1 and then STX Soul now. Each team must have pros and cons. Could you tell us what they are? And which team has the best food so far?
A: First of all, I’m really close with MBC. It was such a comfortable place and it’s like my hometown because my life as a progamer began there. Therefore, the atmosphere is really friendly to me. Bad thing about MBC was that because I was too comfortable, I put my guard down and lost more than I should have. SKT1 is good in every way. They have good funds, good environment, but because I was only there for 10 months, I don’t really know what’s bad about them. And lastly, STX is similar to MBC in that they’re like my family. The cons are similar to that of MBC. I’m too comfortable here, so my life is easy. As for food, STX is the best.

Q: What do you think about people saying that you look like “Jo In Sung if you lose weight”. You seem like you’ll be better looking if you go on a diet, what do you think?
A: I think I hear that question 100 times in a year. I really earnestly want to lose weight too. But what can I do if it won’t work. I’ll try my hardest.. so I hope you understand. Oh! And I took a picture for an ID before, and it came out like a fake (laughs). I think that I look like Jo In Sung as well (laughs).

Q: There are a lot of girls working for e-Sports. Out of the Stargirls, who’s the closest to your ideal type?

Q: You got the first Golden Mouse as a Zerg user. Which of your OSL wins was the most memorable?
A: All of them are really memorable. The first one where I won after beating a Terran, and when I got my Golden Mouse: they’re all good so I can’t really pick one out. But if I had to pick one (laughs), I want to pick EVER OSL 2005.

Q: What’s more appealing to you: 4th OSL win, or 1st MSL win?
A: If I’m really honest, I want the 4th OSL win. However, I do want to get an MSL win. I haven’t stepped onto the finals stage yet, so I want to go up there this time.



Q: Congratulations on your MSL qualification! You probably find it more meaningful that you were about to beat Stats, who has been performing well recently, and showing your strongest matchup, ZvP. Do you have any special tips in ZvP? I also want to know your goals and resolutions for this MSL.
A: I dropped out of MSL last season from losing to Stats twice, so I had lost my confidence. However, after I got back on my feet and started practicing again, I realized that I lost because I was lacking skills. That way, I recovered my ZvP confidence once again and I think I showed it well through my games against Stats. I promise that as long as I have to play a Protoss in this MSL, I won’t drop out of it so easily like last time.

Q: After living a life as a progamer, did you find your own world? In other words, do you find your Zerg is different from other Zergs?
A: Honestly, before becoming a Progamer, I wanted to become a Progamer just because I liked the game. But after becoming one myself, I only thought about winning. But once, I dragged a game that I had won so much in order to play safely, but someone told me afterwards that I have to play epic games for my fans. Since then, I tried my hardest to show great games and even now, during practice, I think of awesome things that I can show in televised games for my fans.

Q: The 4 bonjwas are trying their hardest to become a progamer in their 30s. Are you trying to 30-year old progamer as well?
A: I honestly don’t think too much about it so I don’t know what’s going to happen. Of course I want to become one. However, I’ve been realizing that the way you think in your teens and 20s are different. It requires a lot of effort to stay a progamer in your 30s. I’ll try my best.

Q: Are you planning to join the Air Force?
A: I don’t have anything planned yet, but I think a lot of people started asking me because I’m at that age right now. I didn’t plan anything but you never know what’s going to happen, so I might be enrolled quickly. But before that, I want to play well like the past.

Q: When SC2 comes out, are you planning on changing to SC2? Also, are you going to stick with Zerg or do you feel like changing?
A: Of course…. but really, I don’t know yet, because I’ve only played about 10 beta games. I played as Zerg and went 1-9 (laughs). It’s funny (laughs). In a public game too…

Q: How do you feel about SC2?
A: I’ve only played Zerg, but it was really gross. Also, the Korean translation was very awkward and funny. However, I think that it’s fun. My dad even said that it seems like a really well-made game. I think so as well.

Q: When people say Bonjwa, people usually mean BoxeR, NaDa, iloveoov and sAviOr, but are you disappointed that you’re not mentioned? What kind of player do you want to be remembered as?
A: It’s disappointing, but I have a really cool nickname: “Tushin”. I’m really thankful for my fans for that. And for your second question, I want to be remembered as an aggressive player and a player who plays great games. I’ll continue to show great games, so I hope you continue to cheer me.

Q: What is Starcraft to you?
A: Starcraft is a game that changed my life? It’s an awesome game that really engaged me when I was younger. There were many times where I cried and laughed about this game. Starcraft is my life now.

A: 1 hour of time went by really quickly and I hope I get another chance to talk to fans like this. I hope by next time, I will have won a title. I had a great time today!
