I wonder if all that FBH pelvis and rice throwing caused him to say screw it and start throwing games.

FBH is awesome.

So how does this effect the kespa vs Blizzard power struggle? To me it really puts Blizzard in the absolute drivers seat from a moral and ethical position. You just can't trust kespa to be completely in charge and unchecked now, as they've shown what happens under their watch. With Blizzard holding licensing power this might have been avoided, or at least the cover-up might have been by threats to not renew broadcast licenses, therefore bring pressure from the top on down.

and how would blizzard fix this? is blizzard going to be running an esports scene in korea and monitoring every player? it's more likely something like this will happen if all games were played on battle.net instead of televised gaming in korea, thats IF sc2 becomes popular for illegal betting to take place.

Excerpt from the gamepron article:

The teams involved are currently naming and shaming offending members, in some cases forcing the more serious cheaters to retire from the game. Various gamers are also being investigated, with many denying charges before eventually admitting their involvement.]

Did I miss something or are no teams naming names and forcing players to retire?

I think that guy is just full of shit. If anything, the CJ release indicates that teams will not be naming or shaming wherever possible.

agreed. kespa knew about it and tried to prevent it from screwing everything up. they didn't start it, and blizzard is even more abstracted from the scene since they predominantly make the games. for all we know, blizzard has a guy like vince mcmahon.

We can just hope that flash isn't involved. Not without bisu jaedong or savior. If flash goes. I just don't want to tink about it.

It would fix everything. Make betting legal, take a large cut of winnings, give that to the player for winning, all you have to do is ensure that the player's cut is larger than the amount he could likely make by losing.

What's to stop them from betting against themselves?

You make it illegal, but with huge incentives to win they'll be a lot less likely to do illegal betting.

Making the prize money / fame for actually winning much more than what would be won off the betting on himself losing. Legal betting wouldn't work in starcraft just for that reason. Think about Boxing and why it's legal for betting in that sport

If I'm to understand it, players don't actually get paid to win proleague matches. If you're either guaranteed to be in the playoffs, or if your teammates can carry your team, or if you don't think you will make the playoffs, then you have a large incentive to throw at least part of your games, to make something out of otherwise pointless wins.

Ok, well I've been following the developments since the blogs, at first skeptical, increasingly worried, and finally just saddened. I wish we knew more about the whole scandal because I am trying to reserve judgment. Who is involved? What range of charges they are these people facing? What the status trials in? I don't feel that I can really formulate logical opinions without concrete answers to these questions. I am very saddened by the whole scandal though. I feel betrayed a little, but mostly just disappointed. If you follow the Tour de France, it's the feeling I got when it became apparent that Tyler Hamilton was a doper, just this shock and disappointment I feel very bad for the players who weren't involved as well. I still intend to avidly follow SC:BW as long as it is still played, and I hope that BW doesn't die quickly. There are tons of these kids out there who literally gave years of their lives to this esport. It would be an injustice to the players if this sport can't endure this scandal.

Depends on the team...Some teams have incentives for winning matches or performing well, others negotiate a straight rate. (iirc, JulyZerg left his team at one point because of a contract dispute related to this type of system)

my god

we are blowing this way out of fucking proportion... people are RAGING at the progaming scene and use this event as excuses for "why savior and bisu are slumping" or something. seriously we dont know all the factors that contribute to this situation (in fact we hardly know ANY, besides the info that this article has given us), and we're making harsh blatant assumptions without any decent info on the subject.

people have posted different view points and new ways of considering the situation but in the end we will never get the full picture, so we really shouldnt be making these gay ass claims and complaints about "i've lost all respect in progaming"
practice makes perfect, but no one's perfect, so why practice?
