For those watching Iron Man 2, you can expect another top secret movie called Super 8, which is being directed by JJ Abrams. Like one of Abrams' last films, "Cloverfield", which used clever viral marketing, this new film will follow the same technique.
J.J. Abrams, the creator of television series Lost and the producer of monster flick "Cloverfield", is teaming up with Steven Spielberg for a new feature film called "Super 8". This is your first look at the picture.
Directed by Abrams and produced by Spielberg, Super 8 was rumored to be either a prequel or a sequel to "Cloverfield" — a rumor that Abrams flat out denied. The film opens with the rattling of railroad cars and a title card that reads: "In 1979, the U.S. Air Force closed a section of Area 51".
The trailer jumps to a railroad crossing and shows what looks like a truck pulling into the frame. "All materials were to be transported to a secure facility in Ohio," reads the second title card.
The truck peels out and heads towards the train, smashing into it and causing an explosive train wreck. Among the fiery wreckage is an U.S. Air Force container that is pounded open by something inside. "Next summer," the titles cards conclude, "It arrives."
The film's screenplay is apparently based on a story by Abrams and Spielberg. While Spielberg is a creative force in his own right, he isn't exactly known as a writer per se. He did get a story credit on "Poltergeist", "The Goonies", and "The Sugarland Express" as well as a writer credit on "Close Encounters" of the "Third Kind".
The Super 8 trailer is running before select screenings of "Iron Man 2".

I don't understand why everyone is juding the trailer so hard. The movie won't even be out for another year. This short clip means nothing in terms of how good the movie will be.

The trailer was awful, theres a limit to how much you can invest in suspense and curiosty, thats just like people who sit down to the table at breakfast and say 'I had this crazy dream but I don't know if I should tell it or not'. As good as I'm sure it will be the trailer was trying way too hard to get attention, which turns me off the whole thing, then again this just a petpeeve of mine and isn't really 'justifable' crticism. Still not something I'd enjoy, in comparison Twilight eclipse did a better job of selling itself as a movie and even though I know I WONT watch it came across to me as the right way to use trailers.

i thought after the initial hit, something happened to the tracks or something jammed from the metal of the truck and that caused the train to flip over.
but yea the trailer looks awesome.
so this thing is 1 strong motherfucker. thats all we know. lol

cloverfield's the only movie that literally made me sick to the stomach, and almost threw up. worst movie experience ever, i could barely drive home, got through 3/4ths before i gave up. something really wrong w/ the camerawork there to make me so sick.. and I'm not even the type to get dizzy/sick from intense FPS games
then there's the actual movie itself..first 20 or 30 minutes was the most boring scene at some stupid party, without anything at all interesting going on. Some guy is videotaping a party, and we see it as if it's really happening. This continues for the entire movie and it seems like the entire focal point of the movie "this is what reality could really feel like if some monster/disaster struck.' Do people really find that interesting? I can already picture reality myself, I don't want to spend 2 hours and spend $10 to see a boring real-life disaster scenario. And because they seemed to want to make it as real as possible, they chose to follow a few normal-ish, boring young people who don't say or do anything interesting. Like i care about some stupid fight some guy and some girl are having. then the rest of the movie follows this annoying whining group, with literally nothing interesting happening. Besides the 'real' factor, it was just a bunch of running, panicking, arguing what to do next, with several scenes just with a shaky camera jostling around without any interesting dialog/conversation, character development/interaction, plot (what plot?), drama, etc. Later one of the main guys wants to go save a girl who's trapped in her apartment or something. This was a chance the movie could have done something..anything..interesting, but seemed to fail, but I can't say for sure because as they were trying to escape from the building... that's when i couldn't take it anymore and had to leave before i threw up all over the person in front of me..both from sickness and overwhelming disgust.
Movies should tell a story. Cloverfield did not tell a story, it just was a big log of shit. Single worst movie experience of my life in every way imaginable. And then tons of people like this garbage? wtf is wrong with you people
case in point:
jeezes christ I could only watch like 5 seconds of that before I wanted to claw my eyes out

Why would a train carrying very volatile and confidential materials not have a plow? Most trains have them normally, train-car collisions happen more often then people want to believe.... There goes my suspension of disbelief

cloverfield was so overhyped and so disappointing. a bunch of annoying young people go around doing shaky cam. characters felt so fucking plain and bland.
godzilla and blair witch were both much better than cloverfield.
I have a feeling this might be the same but spielberg's presence cannot be overlooked.
Yea that looks just like Kang Min... amazing game sense... and uses mind games well, but has the micro of a washed up progamer.
