According to the released patch notes under "Bug Fixes" Blizzard stated
Time Expiration notices that were added for testing of the Guest Pass functionality have been removed.
This could be insisting that upon release you may be able to give out guest passes to let the receiver play sc2 for a limited time. |

| SC2 is essentially like a MMO in terms of how you access it. So yeah, they could easily add a refer a friend or 14-day trial stuff to it I would guess. |
| | The Mothership has been altered to be sleeker and more visually appealing, and has been renamed to the Cougarship. The Cougarship will gravitate toward enemy units that have been in play for 18-21 minutes and bring them back to nearest friendly base. |

With Refer-A-Friend reach Diamond League with three times less effort! You can also warp in a friend to help with battles once every hour!
I'm not sure anyone that didn't play WoW will get that, but... |

I wanna get a special pet :o
But yeah, sounds quite possible. I mean why shouldn't they do it? I'm sure it worked pretty well with WoW. I'm sure they'll think of even more things like that. |

Bumping this to see if anyone knows the exact functionality of these, such as...
What are the restrictions on time/hours played? Can you later upgrade to full version without losing your account data and/or single player data? Can you access ALL ASPECTS of Single/Multi player with it for the trial period? Will guest accounts be available the second the game launches?Last edit: 2010-07-26 14:08:09 |

every SC2 copy come with 2 SC2 passes and 1 WoW pass.
if it's like wow, certain things will be blocked off but the majority of the content should be open. Idk about single player though.
The amount you play is unlimited, you have 10-14 days or w/e from the moment you activate the pass before you need to have the full version |

| Hm.. I'd like to get my hands on a guest pass at midnight, since my preordered copy isn't coming in the mail until later in the day... I'd just like to make sure that it'd function right away and allow access to single player. |

What's wrong with being able to give friends of current players a free trial to entice them into considering the game for purchase>?

I lol'd.
I did notice that there were Horde and Alliance decals available when Mapster was looking through the files. I'm glad Blizzard put those in there! (In before WoW nerd)
By the way: why are you people opposed to guest pasts for SC2? That's a pretty awesome idea for an RTS in my opinion. I'll probably be able to get a few friends to play as a result of those.Last edit: 2010-07-26 15:01:08 |

Yeah I pretty much agree. As there are some regions with timelimited play anyways I don't see any problem with that function.
I think most people are just scared of monthly costs for Starcraft 2 or actual game enhancing features via. things like the blizzard shop. But I don't see those things coming and doubt Blizzard intends to, since they are interested in supporting esports, not killing it. Last edit: 2010-07-26 15:18:22 |
