Welcome to the second installment of the Micro/Macro Tournament! We are doing things bigger, better, louder, greedier and sexier than ever before. This has been in the planning stages for awhile, so enjoy the ride!
All skill levels are welcome to join! To sign up, simply leave your information in a reply to this thread. Please include the following information in your reply: Bnet ID, Race, League/Rating. Only sign-up if you believe you will be able to play on the weekends just prior to the release of Starcraft 2 during the second phase of the beta. If you have any questions please leave a reply below or PM me and make sure to view the information below which can be found in the spoiler tags!

In addition to sign-ups we have almost every top figure in the SC community participating in the tournament. These 43 invited players are top seeded using traditional rules. Top seeds are paired with lower seeds in the 1st round. Also, top seeds will not meet up with each other until later rounds. This in compilation with the chance for "Regular Joe" players to play should make for some great games and an exciting, dynamic tournament.
$1125 Prize Pool!!
Will we see top players and figures getting ousted in the first round to some up and coming names? Will we see new players making a name for themselves? Who will you root for? The big favorites defending their rightfully hard earned reputations or the unknown climbing tooth and nail through the competition? Should be exciting to see!

Short History:
The Macro/Micro Tournament originated as an event consisting of players from the practice partner thread located on www.teamliquid.net. Every US player with a post that played SC2 at a platinum or lower level could enter. Our first two events were very impromptu; set up and run over the course of a single night. Both events though had a great show of support, attendance retention, and participation. You can find the brackets and results from our first two tournaments, here and here.
From there we went "official" with the first titled Micro/Macro Tournament. 32 player, platinum and below carnage. The tournament was a huge success. Some great casting, smooth scheduling, lots of good games, and loads of fun. You can find the thread for the tournament here. There you can find the tournament brackets, replays, and links to VODS of the final and interview with the tournament champion.
Due to these past successes and lots of support from participants for future tournaments, the only logical conclusion was to go bigger and better. Prize money, no skill level cap, more players, more maps, and loads of more fucking awesome SC2. Yeah this game rules, I know.
The Tournament Name:
The name “Micro/Macro Tournament” was used as the event title in consideration of learning these basic principles of the game, while also giving a feel of what it is like to play under pressure in a tournament setting. Which overall, is what the practice thread and the event(s) were/are all about. You never stop learning over the course of your life and SC2 is no different. The Micro/Macro tournament mantra holds true for any player that plays in it.

- All players of any skill level are allowed to play within the tournament.
- All participants are required to have access to the North American server of Bnet2.0.
- All games must be played on the North American Bnet2.0 server.
- Cannot play the same map more than once in a best of 3 or best of 5.
- Players are responsible for playing matches with their opponents in the round of 128, 64, 32, and 16 on the days and during the times stated under "When".
- Pending Blizzard's possible changes to naming/friend system or lack of changes, please use the PM system here on TL to get in touch with your opponents. The Sign-up list will include links to people's profiles so you can send them a PM.
- The players in the Ro8, Ro4, 3rd, and Grand Final will be invited to a game lobby by a tournament referee/administrator when it is your turn to play.
- If you have been waiting more than 10 minute for your opponent to come online and/or respond to your hails, please message a tournament admin.
- Being more than 20 minutes late results in the forfeit of a series. This references the start times for the respective rounds.
- The winner of a series is required to email replays to micr0macr0(at)hotmail(dot)com.
- Emails should be labeld as "Ro# - Player". "#" being the number of players in the round and "Player" being the player who won the series.
- Disconnecting during a game results in a loss for that game. Bnet2.0 has issues, everyone knows this, unfortunately though there is very little way to distinguish, legitimately, between a intentional disconnect and one due to a game bug.
- Match observers/casters are allowed, at the player(s) discretion. If a player has issues with observers, observers will be removed. With the exception of a tourney referee.
- Chat is allowed in-game between players. But if someone asks you to be quiet, you shut the hell up. No BM allowed.
- Any map listed in the "About" section is available for play in any round after the listed starter map with the exception of Lost Temple and Steppes of War after Ro64.
- Best Noob award is awarded to the "unknown" player that finishes the highest in the tournament out of the players in the sign-up list. With a few exceptions (dictated by the tournament).
- All referee decisions and/or judgement calls are final.
- Referee decisions are not limited by this ruleset. Referees are god.
- Last but not least, you have to have fun! ^.^

Seed Process:
+ Show Spoiler +
Since this is going to inevitably come up, I'm going to do my best to answer it now.
No matchups were done manually. Every matchup is a result of the following process.
Players on the Invitee list were seeded based on their past performance in recognized tournaments and showmatches. Thank you Liquipedia II. The more wins you had and the better you placed, in general, the higher you were seeded. For example DIMAGA has seen great success and has the largest amount of tournament wins, to my knowledge of anyone, in the top tier. IdrA, in the second seed position, has consistently shown that he can win and maintain a top 3 position in many tournaments. Etc, etc, etc. Invitee list players fill positions 1-43 on the seed list.
Players that signed up for the tournament were seeded based on their provided league/rating description. This was done in several categories. >500 Diamond, Diamond, <500 Diamond, >500 Platinum, Platinum, <500 Platinum, and etc on down the line to silver. These categories of players were then alphabetized. For example, every player in diamond with a rating of 500 or higher are seed 44-68 in alphabetical order. Players that only provided "Diamond" in their description or gave ~500 for their rating, were placed in positions 69-80. Etc, etc, etc, on down the line to Silver.
The seed list was then implemented with what is known as a "traditional" seed. This means that in the first round the top seed is paired with the lowest seed, second highest seed is placed with second lowest and etc. This also ensures that top seeded players do not meet each other until later rounds. For example DIMAGA and IdrA, being 1 and 2 on the list, cannot meet each other until the grand finals or the third place match.
This seeding method is almost identical to the one used in tennis tournaments such as Wimbledon.
