I honestly don't see why this pisses you off.

The only reason that comes to my mind is you being used to being the elitist 'best of the best' in games like Diablo, and now that someone who has money and a life can be on the same tier as you. However, I am inclined to give people a chance before concluding they are angry tools without lives...

That begs the question, why the hell DOES this bother you so much? Yeah they can buy items, or POWER if you want to phrase it like that, but they cannot buy anything you yourself can't get just by playing the game yourself. hell, you could even sell your own ingame gold for E-money/funds to your credit card and buy everything off the RMAH without spending a cent of your own money in the first place.

... I just want to understand.

Because it makes it okay for people to buy their rewards instead of earning them, cheapening the experience of the game as a whole. That, at its base, is the problem.
We live in a world that could have been dreamed up only by Graham Greene and Franz Kafka on a Bender, with George Orwell to write slogans.

Well, is working hard all day to get a paycheck, and then spending that paycheck on something you enjoy not earning it?

You ever heard of the saying time is equal to money?

I dunno, if someone enjoys getting the best D3 gear out of his bonuses, power to him. Personally, my experience with the D2 hero editor reminds me that this ruins the game for myself, but how does it ruin my gameplay if someone else (whom I'll likely never see/meet ingame or IRL) gets uber gear without "working" for it? Should a game for your enjoyment really be about working hard for items anyway?

To use your words, I just don't get how someone buying an item cheapens the game experience for YOU on any basis. It really makes no sense to me.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake

Because it feels like you're playing the wrong way when someone can get the best gear without putting in half as much time as you are. It's pretty hard to NOT notice that. It also undermines a lot of the challenge of the game when you have a party full of people with bought items that trivializes everything.

I... still don't get it. How do you know whether someone else you meet in the game bought or found their items? How do you know that they aren't super lucky/good at trading/used their ingame gold?

Not to mention, for a large majority of D2's lifetime most used d2jsp or bought from item sellers anyway. Hell, log onto Battle.net any region, Softcore or Hardcore and tell me every single game public game you join doesn't have atleast one bot join in and spam "COME TO [INSERT-ITEM-SELLING-WEBSITE]! WE SELL THE BEST ITEMS AT THE BEST PRICES!!! 100% SATIFACTION GUARANTEED!" over your whole entire screen.

This RMAH doesn't really change much of anything, it just gives a legal and official grounds for this kind of thing. If other people having items easier than you before didn't ruin your Diablo experience before, why would it now?

im with u, icanada

diablo has always been an essentially single player game, where u'd team up with others only for convenience (faster runs) or plain old fun (friends group)
the only competition against others comes in the epeen field and thats it

if u dont care about epeen, u wont care about where other people got their items from (well ok there are a few rl paladins around that really honestly care people dont live up to expectations and buy their gear, but thats just fringe cases)

this whole rmah bashing is stupid as hell and takes away from actual criticism of the game itself, be it skill pts removal (every damn flash game ive played lately had its skill tree, it is FUN to allocate a point yourself, nevermind the customization and whatnot the click itself feels good!!), graphics or whatever else
Great minds might think alike, but fastest hands rule the day~

let's throw people in jail for buying ingame items with real money or for selling stuff on real money .... It could sound outrageous ... but then again ... people are thrown in jail for smoking natural plants .... well ... what a reasonable world we live because all you fellow peaceful rational people.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

It would be the fact that they violated the ToS agreement and botted their way into a large quantity of particular items and are now making a profitable gain off of an illegal edge. That's why they'd throw them in jail. Not for smoking pot.

1) Have you ever LAN'd with friends? Diablo II is a COMPLETELY different game when you play with a dedicated party of players who know how the game works. It's so fun I still do it to this day. I played on bnet a while before I'd ever done it, its an experience I'd never had. Now I don't even play on bnet, its so fun.

2) Buying items will happen anyway. This time, Blizz will be in control of it. And seriously, it won't ruin your experience. It will be reliant on the real drop rates and such, so if you're comparing it to how people now can "buy items" remember--the dupe economy and legit drop economy are nothing alike.

It didn't and doesn't ruin my experience...that's based off of duping/botting which blizzard is certainly preventing, and lack of "regulation" on behalf of blizzard so to speak. I don't think the comparison is valid

Rob Pardo sees it differently...so kwitcherbichen.

'We think it’s really going to add a lot of depth to the game,' said Rob Pardo. 'If I have more money than time I can purchase items, or if I’m leet in the game I can get benefits out of it...'

'The players really want it. This is something that we know people are going to do either way. We can provide them a really safe, awesome, fun experience, or they’ll find ways of doing it elsewhere.'

As long as you avoid PvP it doesn't matter that much if you got the best items or just good stuff you can actually find without 500% mf. So that AH won't influence my gameplay.

Can't wait for the beta. ♥
I try

I love the new AH system, I'd only complain if blizzard was selling out of game items that AREN'T obtainable in the game, otherwise it's a great system and you aren't at a disadvantage since you can obtain anything that someone with lot's of money can obtain.

Also complaining about no offline mode? 1999 called, they want dial up back. If you're in a setting where there's no internet(i.e on Holiday etc) then you should probaly be doing something else

Well this is simply ignorant. Some people live in remote areas where internet (or atleast good enough internet connection to play without serious delay) is unavailable.

so, have been looking forward to D3 for some time now (see 2001) :D and i realised, i haven´t played through diablo 1 yet! omg, so yesterday it rained the whole day, perfect!

began my quest at about 8am, lurking through the incredibly creepy dungeons in a moderate pace, walking is really nice when you get used to it. my warrior got to lvl 25 just as i was about to open the last lever for diablo, and man i hate those teleporting mages! i had one unique item on me, a helmet with 50% resist all! rest was blue and really crappy. i thought it would be like diablo2 when you meet him without any minions, boy was i wrong. the place was PACKED with mobs and diablo in the middle.
running away is really hard when i only can walk... so i finally got him 1on1 with half of my pots wasted, i still had my belt full. I started attacking but kept getting pushed back without hitting anything, finally i was against the wall thinking "aw crap" but then my blows connected, and i hit and hit and hit and pots pots pots into my last potion i was jumping up and down screaming "DIE DIE DIE!" and so he did, without any pots at all left, phew.

killed him at about 3pm. i did have a few rage breaks in the middle because of the differing difficulty lvl "oh, a room so full of mobs, they can´t even move... BAM" or "fresh meat" aaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!

i am so hyped up for d3 right now i really hope they can get some of the atmosphere from D1 back, but that´s probably just dreaming. the music oh the music how fantastic, and halls of the blind! ah it´s so good!

halls of the blind

I 100 percent support the RMAH. The people that are against it are either too closed minded to realize people in diablo3 would do it anyways, or have some false idea about diablo gear competition (its not an mmo in that sense) and false sense of entitlement that it devalues your "fun game experience".
Chance favors the prepared mind.

False sense and false idea? Who the hell are you to tell how people feels when they play the game?

You coming into this thread after this much discussion and this is your contribution? This was nothing but provocative bs.

Seriously, get out.

He was wrong about everything but one important point: the Diablo 3 community would do it anyway. The black market for items in Diablo 2 / LoD was HUGE and well-funded. It led to all sorts of bad things in the game, from bots spamming chat channels (and we love our chat channels, right?) to people exploiting others with false sales and trickery, to anything else you can imagine.

People who traded legitly had to use SoJs, and you couldn't be sure when you purchased an item with your hard-earned SoJs that you weren't buying a duped item that would be deleted when the next massive banning sweep came along. "WTF happened to my Windforce?!?! Ohhhhh shhiiiiiii....fuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!"

I agree with the sentiment that items should be hard-earned, not purchased with real-world dollars, but in Diablo the focus is around the items and people will resort to whatever shortcut is available to get them. You have to be realistic about that fact and accept it for what it is.

Now, the item trade is fair and everything is out in the open. You know trades will be legit and when you find that second pair of War Travelers that you don't need you can actually make a few bucks without having to stress out about fueling some black market that hurts players' gaming experiences. I say thumbs up
