Anyone else feel like this game can't live up to the hype? I sure hope it does, but I don't see how it will.
Also as a side note I hate every game company now. Releasing a semi-complete game, so they can sell "end game" material or an expansion is bullshit. I don't mind an expansion if you see what else you can add after a game has been released (new PvP, class, uniques, territories). All of those things are fine, but doing it just so you can charge another overpriced $60 for a rush job aggravates me especially for a RPG like this one.

Blizzard has always produced the best expansion. The ones that don't expand the games existing content but inovate the gameplay by introducing new aspects.
I don't think you could call any of Blizzards expansion rush jobs.

locations are dark, but spells are so bright and wowish , and i wish they would bring more D2-like armor sets, oh well we will see.

So it takes 5525 Baal runs to go from level 90 to 99. That's 184 hours of non stop baal running (if each baal run took 2 minutes max[in reality it takes a bit longer]).Also someone did the math and apparently getting the Runes required to form Enigma (before 1.13 where they significantly increased the drop rates) took 5+ years of MFing (I forgot how many hours of MFing every day). Makes nearly every single MMO look like a joke in terms of grind factor. But yeah I kind of see why they wanted to keep the cap at 60. IMO getting items is more fun than trying to level up in Diablo 2. At least with items it grants variety. (Also they're planning on increasing the level cap with each expansion like WoW). Uhh guess again. LoD is a joke, getting lvl 99 is easy.. In Classic, you need 50 000 diablo runs for lvl 99. And guess what, last ladder one guy did it. Yes, 50 000 diablo runs.
You also lost something like 10% of your experience everytime you died.
Lag spikes were serious business back then. Furthest I ever got in classic was level 96. I did always manage a 90 of every class though back then, which even all combined is likley enough to get to 99 once all in all.
I did have several 99's in LoD though, over the course of say five years. Wow... I played that game way too much.
If only I played BW instead...

I played d2 for about 2 years and found 2 ber 1 Lo and one sur rune. Along with a few ists/guls obviously since those were pretty common from the act4 quest.
I dont really like that the level cap will be so easy to reach ( im 99% sure they stated in one of those interviews that they expect everybody to hit lvl 60 so it cant be that hard ) since it was always another thing to excel at in d2.
Thank god the end of 2011 is so stacked with good games or the wait would be unbearable Fingers crossed for 2nd september beta !!!

I don't mind it. It was actually super easy to hit the level cap in Diablo 1 compared to Diablo 2. As a Hardcore player, having to run antihack in order to not get TPPK'd in every public game, I'd go play the original diablo every time the warden would sweep through and ban everyone.
Without all the duped gear, you could easily hit 50 within a month, with duped gear maybe five days... assuming you are playing with access to hell difficulty (meaning, on battle.net or with Hellfire installed) of course. The Arch Angels Staff of the Apocalypse, Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac's, and other frequently duped items really broke that game and made it super super easy.

No one forced you to use those items. As a legit player I was no where near hitting lvl 50. I actually found a kings sword of haste once that was also duped to oblivion. Unfortunatly it was in singleplayer and it was only a falchion and not a bastard sword.

Oh Diablo 1, how I miss thee. The days where you could dupe an item by simply clicking a potion in your belt as the item was picked up off the ground. It was simpler times back then. I know for a fact I would have never beat that game without cheating.
I seem to only specifically remember duping Godly Plate of the Whale lol

Your level, except getting an "early" 99 for your epeen didn't matter anyway. Most chars good for MF'ing were like "outskilled" at lvl 70, every skill on top was "nice" but not needed at all. It was more important to get certain key Items which allowed you to do certain stuff "easyer/faster" (be it due to enough fast cast or whatever). the worst and most fundamental flaw with d2.
combining the fact you need to mf on hell to get high item levels, and mf takes away from much needed other stats to survive hell on 8player games ... and that mf in itself had a diminishing curve after about 300% mf. it was just a pointless endeavor. why design the game with all these items when most people will never see them drop?
ps, i think the maths was something like 1 zod for every 1,000,000 rune drops?

I installed again and they denied douping but increased runerate by 800%.
Still I didn't find a HR but it's possible now if you play a lot. Earlier a HR = 2 Ist now a Ber = 18 Ist
miss the dupes^^

I agree with MF. It destroyed the dynamic of D2. Part of the appeal of these games was in getting new items to make your character more powerful so you can kill stuff faster and can get even more powerful items faster. MF destroyed that dynamic. I found myself shelving "more powerful" items because those upgrades didn't have MF. The only ones I used were ones with higher MF.

Agreed. If they do away with MF and Unique items, I think it would go a long way to improving the way loot works for D3. Don't know much about the system currently in place though.

There are still unique items but as far as I know there is a push to make rares and crafted items more relevant, as they were in D2C. Only time will tell.

I started working this summer so I won't have time to just play D3 a lot. My favorite memories were when I just kept doing the same quests over and over again with different groups of people. Sadly, I think knowledge of the game ruined my experience. When you get rich, you just want to get richer. After a couple of years playing on/off I discovered JSP and that just ruined my D2 now that I think back on it. Every item was worthless unless 100% perfect, no one did the quests anymore, every char was rushed (some even leveled) then uber leveled. When I finally realized that I cared more about trading for items and getting richer than playing the game, I quit and sold all my shit off on paypal.
Looking forward to new experiences though!
