Upon starting the game up, the player is asked to "role-play" as one of three characters: the Destroyer, a tatooed meathead obviously inspired by a member of the BDSM-sodomite community known as a "power top bear"; the Vanquisher, a scantily-clad harlot who gains "levels" by soliciting people for s*x and fornicating with them; and, worst of all, the Scientist, a demon-summoning wizard who builds sex-robots and espouses Darwinian propaganda!
After choosing to role-play as one of these three characters, the player is then required to choose an "animal partner", which in the context of this game is probably either used as a sacrificial offering to demons or for the player to partake in simulated bestiality with.

Depends what you mean by retcon. In Diablo 2 he reveals that he was never truly a member of the horadrim, but rather he aspired to be, and since they had all but vanished, he decided to name himself as one to fill the void.
So, technically, he is not a horadrim, but one may as well consider him one for non-historic purposes.
If you consider D1 as THE story then yes, D2 retcon'd it in a way, but they didn't really change history. They just "revealed" that Cain was lying.

Either you played hardcore and it made it dramatic and exciting, or you were a tppker. Personally I wasn't into tppking, but my god the funniest moments in gaming came from seeing people get tppk'd or tppkers getting pked themselves.

If you were dumb enough to get pk'd in hc then you deserved it :O
it's not hard to go to town when somenoe named REKP or Bubblegum joins the game. I could tell a pk 99% of the time by their stupid name after a while. Names like IIIlIIIIllII or OhNo or MuffinTart were obvious pk's. Not to mention anyone above 5 lvls you should never trust.
It was extremely exciting. Nothing more hilarious to see people die in HC for being stupid, because that was the only way you'd get pk'd.
As for password games, it wasn't like that until 1.12, simply because of dying population. TPPK wasn't out until 1.09, so before 1.09 you just don't trust sorcs and don't go into cow portal after a sorc.
edit: plus 'ironmaning' was just the fucking most badass thing ever (you and a group of people get together, make new chars, at lvl 9 you duel 1v1 elimination to the death. whoever wins, usually got a prize, anything from bragging rights to epic gear if someone was kind enough to sponsor it).
