No. AFAIK, you gain exp at the same rate regardless of the number of players. More ACTIVE players are better because each additional player increases dps by 100% but enemy hp only increases by 75%. The guy doing quests will just need a lot more punches to get through the pack of mobs. Those in town won't gain a single bit of exp, except for quest completions where you get that popup.
Btw if there's an afk dude farming quest exp, right click on his portrait and kick him. |

My point is that even if you got 4x the XP (who knows) you're dealing with considerably sturdier packs, that die slower. In normal it probably won't kill you, especially A1, but hit nightmare and start seeing multiple affixes on champs with that massive stat scaling, and the first good pack is going to eat you for breakfast. Every time you have to unmake the game, you're losing some of the time you've theoretically saved. |

You can also abuse quest completes and get a ton of extra experience since the game has a checkpoint right before the quest turnin. |

| What do people consider to be the hardest group size? In hell ATM solo seems pretty easy, 2 people seems really hard on quite a few rare mobs and 3 people seems to go back to really easy. That does not really feel right. |

Yeah this was just me theorycrafting a way to quickly level a new char. A lot of my friends are getting the game and I'm trying to get them caught up to me asaply. |

Yeah this was just me theorycrafting a way to quickly level a new char. A lot of my friends are getting the game and I'm trying to get them caught up to me asaply.
The fastest way is abusing the Azmodan quest. Especially if you have a character that can solo four man Azmodan. Even if you can't, it isn't actually that hard at level 20 with ruby gemed weapons. Start a game on the last bit of the Azmodan quest. Clear that floor and then kill azmodan. BEFORE you get the soul have three people leave the game and create their own. Complete the quest and the part where Lean turns into Diablo as these both give experience. Then have this person join the second game and finish it again. Both of these join number three and then everyone gets the experience in the last game. You can go onto Act IV and kill the first boss there if you want. It gives half as much experience as one Azmodan quest so I'm unsure if it's actually worth it or not). You need to set up a rotation for this so everyone stays about evenly leveled, but that isn't too challenging (rotate position 1 and 3 if you have a rusher, else rotate 14 and 23). Once you reach level 30 start a game on Diablo and kill him to unlock Nightmare. NM Azmodan is relatively fast all the way up to 60, although the Azmodan fight is pretty easy so you may be able to bash through it on Hell once you're 50, depending on how much gear your rusher has. The pools are the biggest danger since they'll instagib anybody who is under geared in NM+. Most classes have an invulnerability spell to get out of this though, although it can still be challenging.
If they actually want to experience the game just itemize for bonus experience on kill. Normal is easily clear-able without any meaningful gear. Find a socketed helm and weapon asap (level 20 is when socketed gear begins to appear) and put rubies in them for even more exp/beastly damage. |

I don't know if this has been posted before but this is an excellent post that explain how Blizzard messed this game up.
Diablo 2 is better than Diablo 3 for one very important reason: items are far more interesting, compelling, individual, diverse and fun in Diablo 2.
Diablo is a game that is all about loot. The items need to be amazing, have character, feel specialized to a certain class/build and be fun. Diablo 2's items are, Diablo 3's items are not. This is a huge problem and it's going to kill Diablo 3 fast if it's not fixed. What makes players passionate about a Diablo game is the item hunt due to the desire to obtain amazing and cool items.

I strongly suggest that if you vastly prefer D2, you start a thread for it, and go play it. I think we're all pretty tired of hearing retreads of the same complaints at this point.

funny thing is I think D3 right now is pretty similar to what original D2 was like where the best items were rares & blues and uniques might have been used for some niche purpose |

Not a ton if you used 'caster' melee weapons, that had poor physical stats for strong stat boosts. Spectral Shard (classic), Wizardspike, Hoto (flail), Doom (axe). You did need a few points in str, but you had those for using shields anyway. |

This is pretty much my own big complaint(That and the stupdity of the AH but theres a whole thread for that..)
In D2 Sorcs would pretty much suck brutally if they tried to gear up with melee shit due to stat point allocation and needing to level up your skills. In D3 you don't need any stats to use any gear, and you don't need to level up skills they use the wep dps. I find that system fucking retarded /rant
All things said though, I'm still quite enjoying the game. Not as amazing as I was hoping for but def a solid game that I will likely grind out for quite sometime! |

I like this game... but on Act III Hell as a Barbarian I am getting very tired of elites with IMMUNE MINIONS.
I can't kill the elites before the minions kill me.... the only way I can think to do it is to put on spears and weapon throw and then kite them for 20 minutes.
Instead I just restart and hope for better combos.
Any ideas? |

lol I'm in the same position with my DH. Butcher runs are getting boring and the moment I step into Act 2 those jumping asswhats 1 shot me. I realize I need better gear (26k dps, 20k hp, no resists) and the only thing I can think of now is doing act 4 runs, instead of doing butcher runs for a month. |

hope Blizzard eliminates that mod
there will be a very small % of players that will miss that mod. Shielding is annoying as hell too, but Invulnerability is just pure BS.
I can't imagine how hardcore players deal with the mod other than hope that their character's run speed is fast enough to outpace the Invulnerable mobs and run to the exit, then recreate the gameLast edit: 2012-05-25 07:09:54 |

still think its stupid. i used to play with my brothers and we would each choose a different class so that we didn't fight over items (still happened of course). now, with diablo 3, you can be the wizard, barb, monk and witch doctor, and when an axe drops everyone wants it. the only person who doesnt care is the demon hunter. anyways, i agree with the idea in the referenced article that there needs to be more class specific items other than just whichever item has the most vit/your primary stat.
oh, and fucking wizards shouldnt be allowed to use melee weapons. ;-) D&D disapproves. |
