The ModXStream from OCZ is the superlative solution for driving today's gaming systems. Professional-grade, yet designed with gamers and modders in mind, this PSU is stable, robust, and sports a sleek look and compact form factor.

The PSU is ready for your SLI or CrossFire configuration with 2 PCIe connections. There are also 6 SATA, 4 Molex and 2 Floppy connectors so you load your system however you need to. A four rail configuration balances the power output for consistent performance.

Keeping it cool is a 120mm fan and an openwork grille on the back panel. With its 80 PLUS certification, less energy is wasted as heat or interference, delivering more power to your hungry system!

Wow it sounds amazing! Let's buy it guys!

come on guys, an antec earthwatts for 30$ would be better than this shit.

Hi, I'm currently looking to upgrade my CPU and GPU since I've had this for a while being too cheap to upgrade.
I'm willing to spend around maximum $500, but prefer the $400 range.
Reason I am looking to upgrade is because in D3, when I have 4 characters running around using their skills, I start to experience low fps and start lagging. In addition, in sc2, in a 4v4 or 1v1 (200 max vs 200 max), I start lagging as well.
I currently have AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.4 ghz and Nvidia Geforce Gtx 260.

Your CPU is the culprit, the GTX 260 is actually fine for maxing D3 and SC2 graphical settings (edit: or close to it, depending on which 260 model you have, and if your resolution is 1920x1080 or lower; I'm sure you're okay with High settings though, especially considering a CPU upgrade will make an enormous difference).

With $400 you can get:

i5 3450 (~$190)
Some LGA 1155 motherboard with B75 or H77 chipset (~$70-100)
2x4GB 240pin DDR3 1333/1600MHz RAM at 1.5V (1333 vs 1600 speed is pretty irrelevant, but if pricing is the same get the 1600) ~ $40

Total about $300-350

You'll have to reinstall your operating system though, sorry. Maybe this is a good time to consider getting an SSD like a 64GB Crucial M4 since it's like ~$75-80.

If 3570 was only $30 dollars more, would it be worth it to get it over 3450?
Also, any motherboards you recommend? I plan on OC'ing the cpu so anything that has no troubles oc'ing would be good as well as not having some weird position so that wiring gets complicated or trouble putting in the parts.

Well if you plan on overclocking you essentially need to get the 3570K. But unless you get a valid CPU cooler for it, no it's not worth it.

Hello again! With all of your help, I put together my first computer last year and loved it. And finally a buddy of mine is relenting and buying himself a new computer for Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. After seeing my success, he wants to build it himself. And I figure since I haven't kept track of new trends, this would be the place to ask for a shopping list.

What is your budget?

- $1,000 or less would be ideal. That's including monitor/keyboard/mouse

What is your resolution?

- Need a monitor, but likely 1920x1080.

What are you using it for?

- Games. Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, and other random ones. Prefer high graphics if at all possible.

What is your upgrade cycle?

- Approximately 3 years.

When do you plan on building it?

- Planning on ordering parts in the next couple weeks.

Do you plan on overclocking?

- Possibly later in the lifespan of the machine.

Do you need an Operating System?

- Yup. Planning on Windows 7 64-bit OEM

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

- Nope

Where are you buying your parts from?

- Newegg, most likely. Willing to shop at other reputable NA stores though.

Thanks so much for the help again.

Hi guys. I'm finally planning to replace my dead PC, after living off my laptop for a few weeks.

What is your budget?

$1500 absolute maximum. Would prefer to spend <$1000 so I can afford to get a nice dual monitor setup.

What is your resolution?

Currently I use 1680x1050, but I'm planning to upgrade to a pair of 1920x1200 monitors with this new box.

What are you using it for?

The most intensive thing will probably be streaming Guild Wars 2 at <720p. Other than that, it'll mostly be other MMOs (not TERA), Blizzard games, downloading and watching 720p+ videos, and browsing the net, maybe dabbling in FPS games such as Tribes Ascend.

What is your upgrade cycle?

3-4 years, with minor variance either direction.

When do you plan on building it?

ASAP

Do you plan on overclocking?

No

Do you need an Operating System?

Yes, need a Windows 7 key.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

Not unless I absolutely need to.

Where are you buying your parts from?

Mostly newegg, maybe other sites that can ship to USA locations if they have better deals.

I would love to have an SSD for my OS and about 5-6 games, although I'd love to stuff more games on it if I have the budget left over for it. Thank you in advance!

EDIT: A few minor things:
*I'd prefer a case with no fans on the top (I like to rest my feet there) and with minimal bright LEDs.
*I'd like an Nvidia card due to issues I've had in the past with an ATI card. I can go for ATI if you think it's a better solution.
*I'd love to have a modular PSU, because I live in a very dusty environment and cleaning around extra cables can be a PITA.

Yeah ordering from Newegg to NJ/Cali is pretty annoying. Basically take off $50-100 depending on budget from every budget if you live there. I've considered having parts delivered to my uncle in NY to save money.. and if I had, I'd have probably saved a good $500 by now.

I'm wondering if there's any changes I should make that will cost me less. I intended to stay within the $800-ish range. I'll only be playing SC2 on it. Also looking for help with choosing a monitor.

You have an unlocked cpu with a motherboard designed for overclocking, yet no cooler. If you intend to overclock, get a hyper 212+ for ~$20, if not, you can save money on the motherboard, and possibly the cpu. A h67 or h61 motherboard is suited to no overclocking, p67 is more expensive because it can overclock.

EDIT: 8GB of ddr3 memory is generally around $40, not $55, you can save money there too. Get the cheapest 1.5v kit you can find (1333/1600 is not important at all, whichever is cheaper).

In addition to what Rollin said (which you should listen to), be aware that CPU overclocking is pointless for current gaming (except SC2, which you said you're building for) unless you invest way more into the video card. It's comparatively weak (though 6850 a good mid-range card and has good price/performance) and the primary limiting factor for your gaming frame rates and/or higher settings - in other games. For SC2, the 6850 is perfect and CPU overclocking will yield benefits. You can still stick with P67/Z68 and add aftermarket cooling later when you can afford another ~$30.

For PSU, don't get the Antec VP-450, it'll do the job "without blowing up" as Wom would say, but this XFX is higher quality at a stupid low price of $40 @ NCIX US: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1450sx2b9. Microcenter charges a lot for shipping so the VP will end up costing more anyway.

I connected a 6slot PCIE to the GTX 460, and the screen didn't turn on. then I put another 6slot PCIE, the monitor turns on but the screen is blank (it showed windows xp loading though). what could be the problem?

EDIT: it's not the monitor or the graphics card, I tried them on a different PC and worked. only thing left is the mobo or its PCI slot.

Went ahead and added the cooler to the list and changed my memory to this.

Changed the PSU. Thanks. Now if I could only find a monitor.. Haha.

Yup.
