That's a decent build but not the best for the money.

You said you have a Microcenter near you. You need to go there and grab a CPU + mobo bundle. I can't figure out if there are any Intel better Intel combo deals going (other than that cheap i3 for $90), but there are some better AMD deals. You can get a Phenom II X4 965 with the Asus M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ mobo for $110. That will save $30 on the CPU+Mobo without losing gaming performance (minor difference in SC2). You can put that $30 toward getting a HD 6770 instead of a 6670, and that will make an enormous difference for gaming at 1080p. If you can find an i3 + LGA 1155 mobo for at most ~$10 more than the Phenom II x4, that would be okay but at 1080p the 6670 is going to be the limiting factor for better frame rates and or/higher settings in like 98% of games.

Also $28 for 4GB RAM is way overpriced. You can get 2x2GB for ~$20. Anyway, I suggest you just get a single 4GB stick and add another in the future, since the mobo's you'll be getting only have 2 RAM slots. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231423

Also for the case, Microcenter might have the Bitfenix Merc Alpha for ~$40 in-store. Or NZXT Source 210 is often $40 also. More money toward the video card.

Important questions you should ask yourself

If you request a build, please answer these questions. We will spend as much effort on your build as you spend on your answers to these questions! I urge people to abstain from providing builds unless all the questions are answered.

What is your budget?

500-610~$?

What is your resolution?

1440x900

What are you using it for?

Streaming SC2

What is your upgrade cycle?

Not Until it dies

When do you plan on building it?

Around june 19th

Do you plan on overclocking?

No

Do you need an Operating System?

Probably. ( i have an XP CD at my old house but I just moved and I would have to find it )

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

No

Where are you buying your parts from?

Budget: Somewhere between 1700-2500 USD

Requirements: Must be able to play Sc2 Ultra and AION (It's an MMORPG) Max graphics with in 50 player Zergs with out shift+12 (remove player models / skill effects / pets / etc.. ) The latter is at the moment more important and considering I can run sc2 on high with this current rig? And Cant get Aion over medium with custom settings to minimize graphix lagging...yea.

Graphic Editing / Recording Ingame video + Upload in 720p at the least. (Requires secondary HD to be fluid and not lag the system for recording at least so. 3 HDD. )

Upgrade Cycle: Tends to be about 4-5 years.

Build - On or before July 1st (Personal Birthday present to me)

OS - DO NOT INCLUDE With BUDGET. Its a non-factor planning on Win 7 Pro 64bit

SLI / Crossfire - No

Will need a case as well =X

Buying from - Tiger Direct / NewEgg

----

So, thats basically it. Though if we can stay away from SSD that would be lovely a 10k RPM System Drive + 2x 7200 1tb drives would be optimal.

Power Supply I would like to have at least a 100w extra buffer zone. ( if the system is gunna take 650w to run, then go 750w) 80+ Gold Preferably.

Processer Intel i7

Graphics NVidea (Only. I hate ATI and AMD X.X!) Basically I'm looking for a ballpark system for this as I know prices and such may change before I plan on purchasing the parts. I will need a new case and would like it to be liquid cooled if possible if not, the best air flow / blowers as possible. This cpu (crappy core duo 3.6ghz runs 46c doing most everything I want and I tax the hell out of it can't get it over 48c i've TRIED to.)

Thank you for the help and appreciate the time you guys take to help people like me, who have been out of the computing loop or new commers to it. (I used to be really into this stuff but due to life well that fell to the way side q.q! )

AWESOME! No restriction Pure build. YAY! I'll be going with Sandy Bridge as I'm going to recommend Watercooling and the point of watercooling is getting higher clock and ivy bridge isnt' worth watercooling (ie you can get 4.8 on air SB while to get 4.7 on IB you need watercooling).

Was getting ready to start gathering everything, but it would appear the motherboard promotion is over? T_T Any alternatives that don't come with a huge spike in price?

From right off my head:

Biostar TZ77B $99.99+7.56shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138352

Slightly higher quality:
ASRock Z77 Pro3 $109.99+7.56shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157297

I would go with the ASRock one. Xfast 555 is actually a step ahead of competitors (higher ram/lan/usb bandwidth).

Here's an article that shows how much of a difference Xfast 555 makes (Asrock Z77 extreme4 board though)

I HAVE NEVER BUILT A COMPUTER BEFORE- CAN ANYONE LINK ME TO SOME GOOD SITES THAT TEACH ME HOW TO DO THAT? THANKS

What is your budget?

Money is not a problem in this case; but I would like my computer to be fitting to my specifications- I'm only going to be playing starcraft 2 and streaming dota 2, so I'm pretty sure I don't have to pay much more than ~1200 dollars. I wouldn't mind paying 2000 bucks if that's what's required, but from my research I don't think I will need that.

What is your resolution?

1920x1080

What are you using it for?

Gaming- Starcraft 2 on high or ultra, diablo and dota 2 on max settings; streaming dota 2.

What is your upgrade cycle?

I really don't know, if this computer lasts long I don't think I'll ever upgrade it. But let's say 3 years, I'll probably want to burn some money after I graduate from college.

When do you plan on building it?

In a month or so.

Do you plan on overclocking?

I do plan on overclocking. I have no idea how to overclock though can any enthusiasts link me to some useful sites, or suggest components that are relatively easy to overclock? (:

Do you need an Operating System?

Yes, but as I said, money would not be a problem- as long as it's appropriate for what I intend it for.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

No, as I don't think I need dual GPUs for just playing sc2 on max settings? Correct me if i'm wrong, please.

Where are you buying your parts from?

I'm from Hong Kong, and I go to the school in the states. I'll either go to a computer center, or buy them online from newegg. I'm fairly sure the prices in the local computer center would not be too off, as there are plenty of computer genius/computer geeks hanging around those places xD.

** From what I've researched, it's a lot easier to fit components in a high/mid tower than a small tower. As for the case, I think I'll prefer to stick with one of the big fancy cases from coolermaster, unless anyone could suggest to me any alternatives. Once again, I've never built a computer before- just a dream I had since my sophomore year of high school in Hong Kong. (college freshman right now ): that was a long wait)

I believe your budget it too low to stream SC2 at any reasonable settings (720p). The game would be near unplayable lategame. I suggest either raising your budget or save money longer.

1. Why do you want to get ripped off by newegg.ca? Why not NCIX or MemoryExpress or something else based in Canada?

2. Z68 / P67 / H67 / H61 motherboards don't support Ivy Bridge without a BIOS update, so you probably want a H77 or B75 option (or Z77 / Z75 if you want to overclock by up to 400 MHz). Extreme3 is probably better than what you need anyhow; more like $80-105 may be more appropriate unless there are some more obscure motherboard features you require. No motherboard you get now will support processors coming out next year, and all of them will support a video card upgrade in the future, so there's not really any differentiation there.

3. Socket 1155 systems are "supposed" to use 1.5V-rated RAM. Running 1.65V may be okay, but it's a gray area for the health of the memory controller on the CPU, like overvolting for high overclocks is.

4. TX650 V2 could easily run a second HD 6950, but I don't really see a point to doing that. Also, it's way overpriced at $100. The build needs about 300W max, so a good ~400W is fine. On NCIX, Antec Neo Eco 450C is selling for $35.

5. Antec 300 is kind of antiquated and overpriced at $60, but that's not a huge deal.

Thanks for the feedback! I did some looking around at NCIX, MemoryExpress and TigerDirect as well and all of them seemed to be around the same price ranged (NCIX and MemoryExpress seemed to be a tad more expensive with the same parts and TigerDirect was like $20 cheaper)

I did some changing around and got this:

Intel Core i5-3450 Ivy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.5GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W $199.99
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116506

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226217

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 $179.99
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948

Antec VP-450 450W ATX 12V v2.3 Power Supply $29.99
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371045

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM $79.99
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185

SAMSUNG 22X DVD Burner $16.99
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151244

COOLER MASTER Elite 311 RC-311B-BWN1 Blue Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $44.99
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119246

Total: $704.92

Which actually isn't too bad. I had a quick question about the graphics card. How well would it be able handle games that are out these days? I'm planning on running it on a 1600x900 resolution and I'm not the type that needs to run a game on high or ultra (Medium is fine with me). Is the card I picked an okay choice?

I'd like to take the time here to thank two people for their help.

skyR, thank you for your quick response to my initial build request and then for answering my followup questions. The parts you recommended are all working very well together and I am very thankful for your experienced opinion.

JingleHell, thanks for patiently talking me out of SLI graphics cards. With a $400 GTX 670 I am running Crysis with everything all the way up other than the AA and it looks great.

Many of the people on this thread are very kind to give their time to help strangers build computers--so THANK YOU.

Here are some pictures of my setup (built last weekend). Sorry the pictures are poor quality but it's all I had to work with.

+ Show Spoiler +

I couldn't be more pleased with the Corsair case--exactly what I was looking for. Very sturdy and heavy as well which is what I wanted.

The keyboard is a Das S Ultimate Silent with Cherry MX Brown keys. I picked it after reading through the mechanical keyboard thread here and am very pleased.

Peace

A $1300 pc with no SSD, an HDD that's only 5400 RPM, it makes me want to cry. You don't need that much PSU.

That's ignoring the fact that without knowing intended use it's pretty much impossible to say whether you're going nuts on the CPU and GPU.

Can someone tell me any issues with this build or whether it's good and a good price? Would really appreciate it.

Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL 8G Kit(4Gx2) DDR3 1333 $52
GPU: Gigabyte 1280M GTX570 PCI-E VGA Card $329
HD: WD 3.5" Green 1TB WD10EARX SATA3 64M 5400RPM HDD $95
PSU: Antec TruePower TP-750Watt. $135
Case: Thermaltake V9 case $99

Are you overclocking? If so you have no cooler. If not, you're wasting a lot of money buying parts designed to overclock. What are you using it for, do you even need hyperthreading?

CPU:
If hyperthreading isn't needed (if you're not sure if you need it, you don't): 2500k $229
Motherboard:
Z77 PRO3 $120
Cooler:
Hyper 212+ $39 (wtf australia is overpriced >.<)
GPU:
Sapphire HD7850 $275
This gpu is faster than the 570, and cheaper. The 570 is obsolete these days.
Alternatively if you want to spend more: Sapphire HD7870 $359
PSU:
Antec Neo Eco 520W $69
Don't get a 5400 rpm harddrive, they're slow and shit, and cost the same as a 7200rpm drive.
You can waste money on whichever case suits your fancy, but a good $50 case will also get the job done the same way.

You might be able to find some better prices if you look around, but pccasegear is generally one of the less ludicrously overpriced Australian stores.

$600 can get you a computer with Windows 7 that streams SC2 at reasonable quality, despite what some think. You can do that in a little over $500.

You can spend a little more than this, but this system

and adding the HD 6570 can play in medium-high on 1440x900 and stream pretty well. That should be well under $600 after tax, shipping, etc. Even getting all the individual parts yourself, which would cost a little more if you need to purchase Windows, would be possible under $610.

Just FYI, the extra cost of watercooling there is about $300, in exchange for somewhat marginal performance gains (all of which come from further overclocking, which takes additional time to set up). A Velociraptor is a retarded idea ever since SSDs got TRIM and somewhat reasonable pricing a couple of years ago. A lot of people would prefer other cases at that price range, and the power supply is very good but quite expensive, paying a large premium over the non-modular version. Pretty much, there's no reasonable way to spend in the $1700-2500 range on a single-GPU computer for your purposes. And if you were doing that, you may want to sink about $400 more into a CPU and motherboard to get an i7-3930k and X79 motherboard—only to get some 40% improvement or so, in some situations like streaming, some video editing operations (with almost the same performance in games).

The motherboard and video card look a little expensive, but yeah. It's okay. VP-450 is on the cheap side, but it shouldn't explode. At least not soon.

In addition to what's already been covered, I dunno who spends over 2x on a motherboard compared to the display(s) for a home system.

Interesting you actually chose a prebuilt for this price range(most people say to stray away from any prebuild solutions, and its also within my price range as well). Just one question: Is there any underlying reason you chose the 6570 to add on besides the fact it is relatively cheap for decent performance?

Hey. My motherboard took a shit on me on my laptop so I'm without a computer for a bit, so I'm having to do this from my cellphone. I need a new pc, so I'm submitting here for a build. I'm a pretty broke college student and I'm not particularly computer literate, so I'll answer the questions to the best of my ability.

1 budget. I'm looking to spend as little as possible, hopefully not going over 500 USD.

2 resolution 1280x1020 I believe is the resolution of my monitor

3 purpose. Sc 2 and i guess lol are really the only games I play a lot (occasionally and some older games) . Other than that, just general use stuff (music etc)

4 upgrade cycle. I might upgrade in a few months as I want to stream, but I know that takes a pretty beast processor

5 when ASAP

6 over locking. Probably not. Not enough know how anyway.

7 operating system. Yes I need one

8 Sli, etc. no

9 buying from? USA so I guess newegg

Any help would be great. Thanks. Sorry I can't be more detailed, phone browsers blow :/

You can get a weaker GPU like this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127605
because you're running a really low resolution; but if you plan on upgrading your monitor sometime in the near future, you might want to stick to a GTX 460.

You can also get a weaker CPU (Intel G620) and smaller HDD if you want to save a little bit of money. But I think those are about as optimal price/performance-wise as you can get.
