What is your budget?

$1000-$1500 CAD

What is your resolution?

1920x1200

What are you using it for?

Gaming and Photoshop. I kind of want to future-proof myself for a bit. AFAIK BF3 is the most taxing game at maximum settings at the moment?

What is your upgrade cycle?

2+ years

When do you plan on building it?

I would like to order the parts on July 5

Do you plan on overclocking?

Well, I've never overclocked before, but I would like to do it if it will help me max settings in games for a few more big releases.

Do you need an Operating System?

No

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

I have a 6950 that I want to keep, and I want another one to crossfire with it because I read 6900s have great scaling.

Where are you buying your parts from?

Probably Newegg or NCIX or anywhere that might be cheaper. I live in Canada.

I also want another SSD and another storage drive. Probably 120-128GB and 1TB.
Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forward

NO NO NO ON LLANO!!!!

A8-3870K loses to G620+HD6570 yet cost about the same. The largest difference is in power consumption, which the G620+HD6570 really shine.

Heh. I'm usually the one preaching the same, although I prefer this article as proof:

But I ran out of steam before I decided to do a full European price comparison.

I found out that the i3 with hd4000 gpu came out only for OEM, and that the retail version is not in sight yet :/
Same for the cheapest i5 with the hd4000 gpu.

It seems that either i will have to go with the Llano (which i don't really have a good feeling about to be honest :/ )
or to buy a i3 with a cheap videocard

If i would go for a i3 with a cheap videocard that would be around the level of hd4000, what should i go with?
I can get a 6570 for around 50 euro, which even is better then the Hd4000. Would that be a reasonable choice, or do u recommend another card?

Which motherboard/psu would you recommend? 350-400 w psu should be more then enough i assume?

Just go G620+6570. G620 plays games surprisingly well. Get a H61 motherboard, preferably microATX/ITX. I don't know if they even make quality 300-350w PSU's, but you would want to get one with Sub 400w, as G620+6570 are power sippers.

EDIT: Seasonic SS-350ET would probably be the best PSU for you.

Thanks for the help i'm still debating if that gpu/cpu combo would be good enough for the sims 3 (it should run it , but not by a lot of margin according to system requirement test). I'll think that one over.

For intel:
http://www.komplett.nl/Komplett/product/intel_socket_1155/20083005/intel_pentium_g620_2_6ghz_3mb_lga1155/details.aspx
make no mistake, the g620 is a quality modern dual-core. It is slightly slower than the i3, but the only other drawback is a lack of hyperthreading, which doesn't really matter.

http://www.komplett.nl/Komplett/product/intel_socket_1155/20078965/asus_p8h61_m_le_b3_socket_1155_micro_atx/details.aspx
'cheap h61' is the way to go here. There's an asrock for 5 less pounds too, but no PCI slot if you want to use one of those for a sound card or something in the future.

http://www.komplett.nl/Komplett/product/ati__amd/20099894/msi_radeon_r6670_md1gd3_1gb_pci_e/details.aspx
komplett didn't have a 6570, but a 6670 was only 65 euros.

The three together: ~165 euros, which is only about 20 euros more expensive than the Llano.

Can anyone help me out with my stream? using xsplit, 20-25 fps, quality: 6. posting here because no response in the streaming thread.

i think it's fine on the viewers end but i feel the lag which is the worst.

i got an i52500k
8 gb ddr3 ram
Radeon HD 6770 1GB

i like to play the game on specific setttings. everything on low except a few cpu heavy things on medium changes the graphics a bit and its just what i like personally.

keep in mind that im in newyork. these tests are just as far possible in west and east coast like the op guide explained to do.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2039458572.png

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2039460320.png

Ive been messing around with different bitrates. i read you should use 20% less than what you're getting so i was using about 6,000. i get like 7-8 upload .

really the stream is great going out but the game itself has lag. i can play through it but if i ever needed to play good i would opt to not stream because it hinders my play. any ideas? i think the lag is the same on both medium and low settings inside sc2.

I came up with the following build
Intel G620 € 49,80
GPU: CLUB3D Radeon HD 6670 € 62,90
PSU: Antec VP 350 € 32,00 (The seasonic 350 w one, was not available)
Ram: Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333MHz € 41,90
Motherboard: ASUS P8H61-M LE B3 Micro-ATX € 50,03
Discdrive: Samsung SH-222BB/BEBE € 15,80

Total : € 402,4

(I didn't pinpoint the lowest prices for these parts yet, so the price will be a bit lower i guess + i need a hdd obv.)
basically the only thing left is, to find a nice case.

Final point, i still have a networkcard laying here (TP-Link TL-WN851N 300M) and it wouldn't fit in my own case (antec threehundred two) because the metal front part where you have to attach it to the case is simply too big to attach. I thought all cards were a standard size, but apparantly that's not the case.
So i would like a case that would fit this networkcard.

Ty for the help

I dunno about whether that card is non-standard or not. Sounds odd. Are you sure you tried to plug it into a PCI slot on the motherboard, not a PCI-E slot?

The motherboard you chose does have a PCI slot (#4, the other 3 are pci-e), so you'd be ok in that respect.

Yeah the weird thing is, that it fits in the PCI slot, but when i tried to attach it to the case, the front metal part was simply to big to screw it in place 0_o

Hey guys!

My friend is looking to build a computer. He said he has done some research and came up with this build:
Intel core I5 3570k -- $215
Asrock z77 extreme 4 mobo -- $140
Sapphire radeon hd 7850 -- $240
G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) Ripjaws X Series DDR3 1600MHz -- $56.5
Corsair Builder Series CX600 600 watt 80 Plus Certified Power Supply -- $60
Hitachi Deskstar 3.5-Inch 1TB 7200RPM SATA III 6Gbp/s 32MB Cache Internal Hard Drive -- $80
Windows 7 64bit - $100
nzxtphantom 410 case -- $100

if bought from amazon it totals to $993 (this includes shipping and tax)

I'm not too sure what game he is making it for so I'm looking at overall gaming performance.

Now I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions to this build:
1. cheaper alternatives
2. better value alternatives (better parts for the money)
3. worthwhile upgrades

I welcome any and all suggestions.

Thank you guys! (sorry about posting it in its own thread, didn't know we had to post in here)

EDIT: added prices, amazon is cheaper due to no tax or shipping (and also some things are cheaper than newegg)

You're prob going to have to post what prices he got for us to tell you if there are any better deals. That being said, seems like a good build. He might enjoy a SSD, but that's about hte only improvement I can make based on that.

600W power supply and Extreme4...planning on Crossfire down the line? Does it have to be from Amazon?

I didn't check pricing, but Ripjaws X is usually a little bit overpriced. Where are the aftermarket CPU heatsink and optical drive?

Possible upgrades are getting an SSD and getting something of higher quality than Corsair CX series (not bad at all, but it has a sleeve bearing fan and cheapish construction, potential standby coil whine issues).

What is your budget?
$300-600

resolution - 1360x1024

use -
strictly gaming, 99% building this desktop for starcraft 2 multiplayer, thats why low budget. But would be nice to be able to play a couple other games out there too. I'm not even looking for running SC2 on ultra graphics, i prefer low graphics settings when laddering but my laptop right now is just getting old and not running the game well anymore.

upgrade cycle -
2+ years, obviously i want it to last as long as possible, but I could upgrade parts within 2 year probably too

when I plan on buying - ASAP

overclocking - no
OS - I have a OS already, windows 7 64bit

no second GPU

where do i plan on buying the parts? - newegg, tigerdirect

thanks for any help/advice you can provide. I am pretty new to this and I have a buddy who's helping out but I really want to get everyones opinion on here too!
