On February 29 2012 07:03 Jinsho wrote:Kind of a derail inc, so just skip if you don't care. + Show Spoiler + I do not believe that BW teams switching to SC2 will change anything in that regard. What are you thinking that will accomplish? They will invent a way to train for more hours than there are in a day and somehow make up for the at least two years they've not been playing SC2?
Or are you thinking BW pros can pick up the game just like that with a snap of their fingers, and be competitive at the highest level? I haven't seen anything that would indicate this is true. Certainly not from e.g. Fin, who's been lauded as the SC2 Jesus on these very forums, and whoever else switched and was hyped up like crazy.
And the top tier old guard won't switch anyways. They have their money, their fame, and their fans. They will not be re-learning a new game from two years behind and become bad all of a sudden for possibly just a couple more years in the spotlight until they retire from active gaming anyways.
So when those rumoured BW teams do make the switch, what are they going to bring to the SC2 landscape? Harder, maybe more systematic training? Possibly. More money? Maybe. Their old fans? Doesn't really affect the game that much.
If there ever is a good time to switch, it is HoTS. With that a lot of the current strategies will be reset, and people will be scrambling to rise to the top as the metagame begins to formulate. If they do it then, and give it their best, maybe we will see a top BW team succesfully attempt the switch. But then that will have been due to the game resetting, not necessarily due to their magic BW skills.
So in summary, while I don't disagree that the game can and will develop further, and that some BW players can be successful at SC2, I do not think that there is anything particularly special or magic about BW players that would affect the current or future state of the game. And certainly nothing that would make it impossible for current SC2 players to have a girlfriend now or in the future. Which is a ridiculous thought anyways --why would you have to sacrifice all your free time to be good at the game? There's 24 hours in a day, play 12h, sleep 8h, then go watch a movie and have dinner with your girlfriend. You seriously think that you'll lose to a player who practices 16h in a day and sleeps 6h just because of that? All other things influencing this are not equal, no matter how much people want to assume they are.
Bw Teams switch; IdrA -> CJ -> goes to BW level of dominating the foreign scene!
but ya a lot of the success of BW players is just that they practice harder... If they switch, certainly some will get displaced, but overall the level of games should get better if they manage to displace those who aren't good enough |

(Also stop moping, you don't have gf/bf because you don't put any effort into it, not because you like sc2.)Last edit: 2012-02-29 11:17:37 |

IPL? That would be weird, seeing that it doesn't start until quite a while. April 6th-8th to be precise.
Maybe he meant the IEM World Championship finals in Hanover which are meant to start in about a week? Possibly he travelled over already?Last edit: 2012-02-29 12:45:57 |

| IdrA said that it seems that the community can support the PPV model...I really hope MLG and other tournaments don't make tournies PPV often because there is simply too many tournaments. |

Well, Idra wins a little more then he loses on his Korean account and has over a 95% win rate on his NA account. Kind of shows you how bad the competition in NA in comparison to Korea |
