no, he gets mad when he loses to lesser players, idra vs cruncher is the epitome of that. starcraft should be a game of skill, in fact 60% of the games, a players skill is not shown.

would you gg the first game? idra is one of the smartest sc2 players

At the time of the drop he had 2k minerals and 1k gas. That could have been about 15 stalkers. Imagine the drop with 15 stalkers covering the colosus with that air force. It would have stand no chance. Mondragon noticed sloppy macro and took advantage really well. I don't want to downtalk mondragon but his roach only style wouldnt be very strong if zeerax had macrod better.

You are right until the "noticing the sloppy macro" part. How can you say he noticed sloppy macro just because he did a drop? He saw a 3rd + collosi so that means if you were the zerg player "ohh shit he teched to collosi and started a 3rd? That doesnt seem like BAD macro. Just looking at it from that outside it looks like good macro actually. Unless Mondragon scouted his whole base and only saw like 8 zelots, 2 sentries, and 3 collosi then you could say he chose the drop because of noticing sloppy macro. He did that drop because he needed to do something to get back into the game. Something all terrans know as dropping expo and attacking the front. It just worked out soooooooooooooooooo (and im not exaggerating) much better than he expected lol.

I wish idra would win more :[ because I'm not really sure what everyone is praising

long macro games? that's his "style"?

I really like idra, hence I root for idra regularly, I just want to see the player I root for do well
and it doesn't seem to work out that way, so sadface

I would guess the only thing I would wish idra to have more is flexibility in his play, in a time where new strats come up at every map / tournament

man those multi pronged attacks with hydra drops were phenomenal vs cruncher

Well, this game was before 1.3 hit, so I guess that he has mixed his style up a little bit, concerning the fact that it was a thread about it.

IdrA's ability to macro and multitask is phenomenal. Though instead of saying macro is his style, I feel more comfortable saying he plays a solid style. The way he plays, he rarely takes big risks and simply relies on outplaying his opponent.

Good players can go long periods of time without winning anything though; Ret won assembly but other than that? Jinro won the last MLG but also got knocked out the first round along with IdrA in TSL. Incontrol is realy good despite what people say and he hasn't won anything in SC2 yet, same with Tyler.

IdrA did win an open tournament in Arizona recently, that's saying something.

A guy who's smart enough to handle getting into physics and korean starcraft not smart enough to handle his own mouth? I think not. He's definitely faking it.

in other words, IdrA's real genius is not sc2, IdrA's real genius is he's excellent at selling himself to the audience. If I were a CEO i'd definitely hire him as my marketing guy.

Having intelligence means having manners? That's very naive.. I'd say smart nerds generally have worse manners (read: open arrogance) than the average joe in my experience. He has bad manners because he's immature imo. A girlfriend would probably fix it (theorycrafting here; no idea if he has one :-)!

IdrA's strategy is too consistent. It makes him predictable, and his opponents exploit that.

He's like a poker player who never ever bluffs.

You HAVE to bluff with a certain randomized frequency or you'll get exploited, even if your normal play is phenomenal. Same thing in Starcraft.

This is why he is at the same time a player with fantastic skills and often-disappointing results. He doesn't understand the idea of a mixed strategy, of changing your tack regularly to make sure you don't get predictable.

IdrA needs to study some game theory and apply the lessons. It's called a mixed strategy.
Creativity... Go!

Waaahh? It appears you're basing his success upon seeing this one series. IdrA was, and remains to be the most successful non-Korean player in SC2 as of yet. Hence why it was so surprising that he lost, because he's so damn consistent usually that it has gotten to a point where people just blindly predict him to win in most cases.

You cannot confuse HIS truth with THE truth. A lot of IdrA fans seem to have trouble distinguishing between the two.

Anyway, I sincerely hope he does a little self-reflecting because there's certainly room for improvement in his behaviour and attitude toward other players.

I just wish IdrA would change races. Such a talented player stuck with a race which he obviously isn't pleased with. Even though he said it fits his style best and the switching would take a long time, for him personally it might be the best choice.
For us Zergies however it would be a loss to see one of the top 3 Zergs in the world switch.

I actually agree with you on this. MorroW switched from Terran to Zerg, and although it took a while he still was able to be a beast. If idra switched to Terran (Terran is so much cooler than toss ) then I can see him absolutely dominating.

I HIGHLY doubt what you say there is even close to being true.

And if it is, then just because the mods aren't fast enough to skim the 400 pages of the LR thread that I guess you're referring to.

Btw, relevance of this post to a fan club thread?

Or so he would have you believe.

Idra's style means playing against what he thinks his opponent should do, and if everything goes like he imagined it would go, he sometimes wins. If that doesn't happen, he lost because his opponent did not play the game "right" or played "risky" or, an additional excuse he's been blessed with since SC2 release, because of "imbalance" - incidentally, his flaws and inability to perform were identical in BW as well.

Look up some of the older threads from BW days on TL for a somewhat clearer overview. I'm surprised people actually expect him to do good, especially since he seems even more angry at everything in SC2 than he was before.

He might have gained some exposure in a (young) SC2 scene and some new fans with everything going more mainstream, but when it comes to winning things in the future, I wouldn't hold my breath. He hasn't changed a single bit in all these years, he still has the same warped mindset, loses for the exact same reasons and still deals with losses horribly wrong.

Seems like raw mechanics and training hours have taken him as far as possible in SC2 as well now.

Yeah he should go back to his BW terran self...

Whats holding him back is playing zerg,i don`t get why someone who hates cheeses/allins and other cheap tactics plays zerg, or do you honestly believe he lost that gsl series to Jinro because he got outplayed?

Seems like IdrA has decided to try to be more versatile now, judging by the FXOpen games that took place after the TSL games. His BM, of course, has stayed the same (vs. MYM.ClouD, the series where he got knocked out)
