Also the combat kind of bugs me as well, at least for the necromancer, so many uninspired abilities. So many AOE's that pretty much look the exact same and do very similair things. My abilities dont feel very defined.
Not to mention ability wise, i have very little to look forward to in terms of active combat abilities. You unlock them all very quickly when you equip a new weapon and you have no control or choice over those abilities beyond equipping the weapon. So i know that largely (ive tried out pretty much every weapon) my combat is going to be very similair throughout the rest of the game on my necromancy and to me, it is a very poorly designed or poorly executed class either one of those 2 or both.Last edit: 2012-06-09 16:42:32 |

| Making practically every spell an obnoxious particle explosion is a pretty questionable decision for both gameplay and aesthetics. Really bugging me. |

It makes them all look really similair, I can barely tell the difference between most of my AOE abilities.
Also my server has felt really dead all day in Diessa Plateau, maybe its cause most people arent there yet? youd think there would be more since our characters transfered over from the last beta though.
I was on the moost populated server last beta, maybe a bunch of people transferred? Cant remember the name of it right now. |

| Played GW 1 for 6 years, and got quite a bit of fortune and fame amassed on 4 characters. However I'm still pretty hesitant on buying GW 2. because any veterans of high end PVP player (which I am one) will tell you how shitty the developers are at balancing the game. GW2 is quite different from any PvP youve played before, so even if you are a high end pvp player it really doesnt count here. Ive played probably 200-250 games of PvP in GW2 and not found any class to be imbalanced.
With the amount of traits available no class can never be the same, so if i do extremely well with Warrior its 0.5% chance that you will do the same. Every class can spec hugely different. So if you find a class imbalanced it may very well be a spec issue.Last edit: 2012-06-09 19:17:55 |

Well, i only got to level 10 until i got bored of the events. A while ago they showcased some end game events that looked interesting, ghost ship, giant dragon and stuff, but if all the events until then are like the early game events i can't be bothered getting there. Maybe tomorrow after a good nights rest i can see the game in a better light, but i doubt it. Boring events, uninteresting combat, weak story and PvP doesn't look much better. I so hoped it would be even remotely like Guild Wars 1
so you got to level 10 out of 80 then reached the conclusion that you need to be level 80 to do anything good? hrrmmm... You haven't even got anywhere in your personal story quest line, or tried out either of the pvp types but you have already determined its a wow clone and a generic grind mmo? Please teach me your magical seer skills good sir.
Well, it managed to bore me in the first few hours, even TOR was more enjoyable there... So you are saying i first have to get through a lot of boredom so i can find interesting parts like in WoW? I already had to grind to continue my personal story... "next quest is recommended for level 10, oh, i'm level 8, time to run around trying to find another 5 boring events." Guild Wars was great from the start, GW2 didn't manage to show anything good in 5 or so hours. I don't see any reason to conrinue playing it.
What did you enjoy in Guild Wars? The PvE? I don't get it 'cause you can join WvW at lvl 1 and have your stats immediately scaled to 80, or structured PvP and get a fully customizable 80 char.
What are you missing from GW1? |

I don't think you get the point. A lot of times they made stuff that just shouldn't exist. For example, it took them a total of 1 year to realize that shadow step + slow just shouldn't exist. I was a core infuser and prot in top 200 guilds before, I do know m GW 1 PvP. Arenanet's problem is that they can't balance skillsets at all. A lot of people I use to play are in the same boat as me because from Arenanet's track record, they will ruin a game around 1 or 2 years after launch,Last edit: 2012-06-09 19:56:47 |

| Played both beta weekends but I've ended up playing Starcraft, Skyrim and DayZ again. it's a damn shame because GW2 had a lot of potential but it doesn't feel like a world to me at all. The fact that the combat is one ridiculous particle explosion after another doesn't help, either. Why don't MMO designers realize that they can make combat more awesome by giving characters thumping great sound effects as well as massive particle explosions? |

i feel a lack of well. anything
i dont like not having direct buffs and clear cut buffs and debuffs, mesmer has so, so many 'random' boon afflictions and so every class is just mashing 1-5, wep swap, mash 1-5 and use some utility skills, it just lacks any form and you cant even tell whats going on because theres so much particle splash and random effects
my class doesnt feel like a class, just a reskin and re colour from another class. even more so since everyone can melee or range effectivly.
i dont like the instanced zones either but thats a small gripeLast edit: 2012-06-09 22:30:05 |

| I like it but I don't play more than like 3 hours every beta weekend or stress test. It doesn't offend me, I don't think it's bad in any particular way, but I feel absolutely no compulsion to play it. Maybe when it has launched I'll actually put time into it but right now, even though I have a limited opportunity to play gw2, there's a bunch of games I find myself choosing over it to occupy my free time, like dayz, dota 2, etc Last edit: 2012-06-09 22:33:37 |

I feel Anet had a really good concept and the right ideas, but like so many things in life, it just didn't work out as many of us had hoped. Instead we now have Grind Wars, with events frantically popping up left and right to create the illusion of an immersive MMO world where "your actions matter".
Nothing is less immersive than cleaning a skal infested lake, receiving a letter from the fishermen thanking me for getting rid of the vermin, only to find the very same lake crawling with the aforementioned mere seconds later.Last edit: 2012-06-09 23:33:26 |

| That's true. It's basically the ultimate theme park MMO, and without a monthly fee. In that respect it's good, but it's like they have polished a type of game that I am more than a little tired of. I'll still play it but very casually |

| Yeah, I really was hoping (and continue to do so) that GW2 will be the next game that gets me completely addicted to it, but I've just not felt that way these BWEs. I can't really pinpoint any reasons but I still end up playing more DotA2 than GW2 or anything. Hmm. |

The PvE story in GW 1 was great, i played through it about 5 times, but i enjoyed GvGs the most. I played in a guild that managed to get into top 300 4 years ago when it was still hard and i don't see GW2 PvP becoming as competitive as GW1 PvP.
At least for GW1 balanced or split team compositions (basically the only thing we ever really did) your team had to be a perfectly oiled machine, if one person didn't do his job right, the whole team failed. Sure, there were the FotM builds that required less perfect teamwork, but they were all beatable by a good balanced team. In GW2 the classes basically have no interaction with each other.
The same is true for skills. Yeah, there is the occasional "combo finisher" and such, but in general there is only one way to use any skill - when it comes out of cooldown. In Guild Wars 1 there were a hundred ways to combine skills - often thanks to the subclassing system like the pre-factions Knockdown-Aftershock Warrior - and the timing was very important. Devastating hammer-> crushing blow -> Quarterstep (not a skill, you move for 0.25s) -> Heavy Blow to execute it perfectly. Too early and your second knockdown won't trigger, too late and the opponent has time to use a defensive skill. Combos like Sever Artery -> Gash -> Final Blow are also now simplified to "Press 1".
Yes, WvW will be fun, as is any mass-PvP. I played LotRO for 2-3 years and it had similar PvP which was always fun, running around with 30-40 other people, capturing castles, having huge battles... but it's not the least competitive. If that is GW2s only selling point it's not for me.
Maybe i'm just too nostalgic... i feel like a BW purist ranting about SC2...

I think a large part of the problem is that the weapon skill system combined with the fact that the system is cooldown based. You have half your bar locked in with weapons, with the majority of skills being press button, do damage, so literally as soon as its ready just push the button to do damage. Some weapons have some utility skills on them and its no surprise that they are the stronger weapons to use (eg. 2h mesmer sword).
I don't like the design of the skill bar in general, locking you into 5 skills, then 1 healing, 3 utility 1 elite, really restricts the options you would otherwise have. You get stuck in this spot where you have a choice of like 15 or so utility skills, half of them are garbage, the other half are suited for PvE and you have a small amount of creativity for PvP, but you are forced to run 3 skills from that small skill pool due to the system where I would much rather have some of the utility type skills found on some weapons.
That being said I think it has potential, there are enough team orientated skills to compensate for no healers (I dont mean cross prof combos ... man those blow so hard) and it is still in beta so hopefully they will find ways to iron out these issues.
As an aside I find it kind of comical that they were going for a simple buff/debuff system by having them be common for all classes instead of class specific hexes or what not. But what they came out with on the other end is a giant clusterfuck of like 12 conditions and slightly less boons but then go on and add class specific buffs anyway *facepalm. |

Sorry, i played GW1 through prophecies and factions and getting into top 300 GvG was not hard.
Get R3+ players, give them build and how to play it. Co-ordinate them during match
Win.
300 was nothing. |

Depends on at what time in the life of GW1 and what kind of build. |

| Graphically this game looks gorgeous. Seriously, jack everything all the way up and explore one of the cities, it's pretty impressive. On the flipside, I find the combat initially a tad dull. The amount of "builds" you can come up with is nothing short of staggering though, so I can see this becoming very addicting later on. I think the main thing is I really just don't know how good the pvp is and I honestly have no clue what the end game pve is like. If both of those are high quality then I can see myself loving this game, but man the gameplay doesn't make the best first impression thats for sure. |

My texture settings wouldn't go above medium?
I like the game too, but I've never played a MMO before due to subscription cost. Of course it isn't perfect but no subscription is still way more important for me |
